Sustainability in healthcare isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. 🌍 At the recent Bursa PLC Investor Relations Series 17 webinar, our Group Head of Sustainability, Yasemin Tecmen Stubbe, shared valuable insights into IHH Healthcare's sustainability journey and practical steps for embedding these practices into organisational culture. “Driving sustainability in any organisation is like climbing Mount Everest. It takes patience, persistence, and a systematic approach to reach the summit, one basecamp at a time.” Yasemin shared. Her message was clear: driving sustainable practices requires not just a commitment from leadership but also buy-in across the organisation. At IHH Healthcare, we’ve built a robust governance structure to keep our sustainability efforts on track, holding ourselves accountable to goals that span across our Patients, People, Public and Planet pillars. Some highlights from the webinar include: Environmental Stewardship: From capping Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 to baseline Scope 3 emissions by 2027, we remain steadfast on our journey towards Net Zero by 2050. Cultural Transformation: Over 90% of our employees have completed sustainability awareness training, fostering a shared commitment to change. In the wake of #COP29, Group CEO, Dr Prem Kumar Nair, and Group Head of Sustainability, Yasemin Tecmen Stubbe, engaged in a meaningful discussion on IHH’s role in addressing one of healthcare’s most urgent sustainability challenges: Scope 3 emissions. “We face an enormous challenge: balancing patient care with planetary health. As a global healthcare provider with over 80 hospitals in 10 countries, we have both the responsibility and the power to lead this change,” shared Dr Prem. “Climate crisis is a health crisis,” Yasemin added, underscoring the critical link between planetary and human health. “As climate change worsens, human health will be significantly affected. We need to do our part to mitigate our own impact and adapt to the reality that climate change will bring.” We’ve taken proactive steps to address this challenge, including reducing greenhouse emissions from anaesthetic gases, implementing energy-efficient technologies, and significantly cutting single-use plastics in non-clinical zones. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to fostering a culture of shared responsibility. As Dr Prem highlighted, “Care. For Good. is our aspiration and our approach to sustainability. We marked another milestone in Q3 2024 with a higher core net profit, driven by growing patient volumes and successfully managing more complex cases across all key markets.   “As we continue to execute on our strategic priorities and placing patients at the centre of all we do, we remain confident of our growth trajectory,” shared Dr Prem Kumar Nair, Group CEO, IHH Healthcare.   In our ongoing fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), we’ve taken a significant step as the largest private healthcare network to implement Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines across all our hospitals. This system-wide initiative enhances patient safety and addresses superbug infections through responsible antibiotic stewardship.   We’ve also expanded our capacity with nearly 1,000 additional beds—600 from Island Hospital in Penang and 350 at Fortis Hospital, Manesar in India’s National Capital Region—strengthening our ability to deliver high-quality care to more patients.   On 30 Oct 2024, an interim dividend of 4.5 sen per share was distributed, reaffirming our commitment to delivering value to all stakeholders.   A heartfelt thank you to our people and partners for your unwavering dedication.
