UM6P College of Computing successfully hosted the "AI Builders Challenge 24" in collaboration with Bouygues, concluding three days of intensive innovation and teamwork at the UM6P Benguerir campus. This exceptional event brought together talented students, developers, and innovators who collaborated in multidisciplinary teams to tackle two real-world challenges. Participants worked through a series of focused sprints, showcasing remarkable creativity and technical expertise. The program culminated in the final presentations, where teams unveiled their innovative solutions for the COLAS and Bouygues Construction projects, followed by a celebratory awards ceremony. We are pleased to congratulate the two winning teams on their outstanding achievements: “Fennecs de Merzouga“ and “Flamants roses du Dra”. Your commitment and innovative approaches distinguished you among a highly competitive group. [📸📢 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS] HPC AI Days 2024 The UM6P College of Computing recently concluded the second edition of "HPC AI Days", a three-day journey into the world of High-Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence, powered by the Toubkal Supercomputer resources. Held on our Benguerir campus, this edition brought together experts, learners, and innovators for a deep dive into GPU programming, numerical linear algebra, and AI workflows. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions exploring GPU-accelerated computations, MATLAB workflows, and deep learning frameworks, concluding in a dynamic hackathon where creativity and technical capabilities took center stage. [🌟🎉 CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE] The UM6P College of Computing is pleased to announce that our PhD student MOHAMED LECHIAKH, under the supervision of Prof. Alexandre Maurer, has successfully published a research paper entitled "Towards Long-Term Depolarized Interactive Recommendations" in the prestigious Journal of Information Processing and Management (IP&M), a Q1 journal renowned for its contributions to computing and information science. This research work addresses the pressing issue of long-term polarization in sequential recommendation systems. By proposing three constrained deep Q-learning algorithms, the research optimizes the personalization-polarization trade-off, enhancing both the diversity of recommended content and the safety of user consumption behaviors in today’s dynamic recommendation environments. Co-authored with Dr. Zakaria EL MOUTAOUAKKIL and Prof. Alexandre Maurer, this achievement highlights UM6P College of Computing's commitment to pioneering research that tackles complex challenges in AI and recommendation systems. On November 15, 2024, Professors Lamiae Azizi and Achraf El Allali from UM6P College of Computing (CC) participated in the first Mediterranean Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Marseille, France. Cédric Villani, the mathematician and 2010 Fields Medallist, and Mr. Karim Amellal, the ambassador and inter-ministerial envoy for the Mediterranean, represented the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in organizing the conference. The event, which had been organized at The Velodrome, brought together research actors and companies from different regions to discuss and present answers that AI can bring forth. Prof. Cedric Villani animated the session that featured presentations and debates by Prof. Azizi and El Allali on the various contributions of artificial intelligence to healthcare areas, including genomics, medical tools, and solutions for prevention and diagnostics. They also project the future of AI combined with quantum computing and how this fusion may accelerate advances in these fields. In addition, Dr. Azizi talked about how AI can accelerate research and provide solutions in the energy sector, including smart grids, renewable energy, and energy storage. The CC professors participated in a lunch with Minister Clara Chappaz, Secretary of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital, at which they engaged in a discussion around the development of a future Mediterranean collaborative ecosystem based on AI.
