In May 2024 the School of Collective Intelligence held a conference on the Evolution of Collective Intelligence, at UM6P - University Mohammed VI Polytechnic Rabat campus. Attracting several major figures in psychology, anthropology and organizational change from different countries, we are delighted to announce that the papers presented at the conference have been accepted to be published as a Special Issue of the Philososphical Transactions of the Royal Society B. These special issues are designed to bring together insights on a focused question from multiple fields, or to provide solid grounding to a new direction in science. We are delighted to be playing that role for the new science of collective intelligence at the School of Collective Intelligence. The special Issue will be edited by UM6P's Cathal O'Madagain, Jose Segovia Martin, Edmond Seabright, and James Winters, along with Monique Borgerhoff Mulder (UC Davis), and Andrew Whiten (St. Andrews). 🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We’re proud to share that our student, Rasheed Adebayo Oyewole, GMNSE, and his team won the 2024 Morocco GH2 Hackathon! 🎉 It all started at UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in July, where they participated in an immersive Summer School and Hackathon. Out of 8 teams, only 3 made it to the summer mentorship program. At the #PowerToXSummit in Marrakech on October 8th, they presented their work and emerged as Winners! A special moment was receiving the award from Dr. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. Their startup, #GaFurnu, focuses on sustainable ammonia production, aiming for a cleaner, greener future. As a prize, they’ll enjoy a study trip to the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. 🌟 Celebrating Academic Excellence at SCI! 🌟 We are thrilled to announce that our PhD student, Maria Brackin, has successfully defended her thesis! Maria's work explored attitudes to debt and finance in rural and urban communities; the jury remarked on the originality of the work, its relevance to Morocco, Africa, and Sustainable Development, and the great contribution Maria made to the development of the SCI community and teaching in its formative years. 🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We are proud to celebrate our 2-year Masters students at the School of Collective Intelligence! Last Thursday, they successfully defended their final theses, exploring a wide range of compelling topics. From the governance of cryptocurrency communities to the social dynamics of Moroccan nomads, their research dives deep into how groups can work together more intelligently. They also investigated the origins of human language through gorilla songs and how traditional African deliberative practices can inform global citizenship.
