The 2025 GRAMMYs season is in full swing. The 2025 GRAMMY nominations have been officially announced, leading up to Music's Biggest Night. The main event: The [2025 GRAMMY Awards](https://www.grammy.com/news/2025-grammys-show-air-date-announced), officially known as the 67th GRAMMY Awards, will take place live at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on **Sunday, Feb.2**, broadcasting live on the CBS Television Network and streaming live and on demand on Paramount+. 

Before the awards, Final Round Voting will take place from **Dec. 12, 2024 to Jan. 3, 2025**. The Recording Academy's Voting Members, composed of music creators, including artists, producers, songwriters, and engineers determine the GRAMMY winners across all categories revealed on GRAMMY night. This thorough process underscores the integrity of the GRAMMY Awards as music's only industry-recognized, peer-voted honor.

This year, [the Recording Academy](https://www.recordingacademy.com/), the organization behind the [GRAMMY Awards](https://www.grammy.com/awards), [introduced several key updates](https://www.grammy.com/news/2025-grammys-awards-updates-changes-amendments-rules-guidelines) to the [annual GRAMMY Awards process](https://www.recordingacademy.com/awards), including adjustments to eligibility criteria and Category renaming, which will all go into effect immediately at the 2025 GRAMMYs.

Though virality can propel music to the mainstream, releasing an album is a profound accomplishment that can have a deep and laying impact. Albums are more than an encapsulation of a musician’s lived and learned experiences: they’re a way to cherish them forever.

[The Recording Academy](https://www.recordingacademy.com) is proud to present the 2025 GRAMMYs nominees for Album Of The Year, honoring both artistic and technical skill of the highest degree in music. The Category is notably dominated by [women](https://www.grammy.com/news/2024-grammys-ways-women-dominated-taylor-swift-sza-boygenius) this season, while several entries see established artists tapping into new genres and sonic arenas.

## **André 3000 — 'New Blue Sun'**

[André 3000](https://www.grammy.com/artists/andre-3000-benjamin/73) might be best known for his role in [Outkast](https://www.grammy.com/artists/outkast/8325), but recently, the Atlanta rapper has been busy [carving out a new reputation](https://www.grammy.com/news/andre-3000-new-blue-sun-interview) as André the flutist.

In the years following Outkast’s split in 2007, André 3000 has been spotted wandering everywhere from [LAX](https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/15/entertainment/andre-3000-flute-lax-airport-trnd/index.html) to [Japan](https://www.complex.com/music/a/tracewilliamcowen/andre-3000-flute-japan-video) with his flute in tow. Now, the opening track of his first-ever solo album amusingly calls out his genre switch: "I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a ‘Rap’ Album but This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time."

To record improvisations that eventually birthed *[New Blue Sun](https://www.grammy.com/news/andre-3000-new-blue-sun-interview)*, the flutist worked with producer Carlos Niño, keyboardist [Surya Botofasina](https://www.grammy.com/news/alternative-jazz-albums-new-grammys-category-2024), and guitarist [Nate Mercereau](https://www.grammy.com/artists/Nate-Mercereau/38299) to craft a surreal, textured soundscape. Throughout, André 3000 plays the contrabass flute, Maya flute, wood and bamboo flutes, and more wind instruments — harmoniously uniting to create the artist’s first release in over 17 years.

Composed of eight tracks with bizarre, lengthy titles, the lyricless *New Blue Sun* is labeled as new-age and experimental jazz. It’s fairly shocking that André 3000 is not a trained musician, given the project’s brilliance; led primarily by rhythm, and using his instincts [developed](https://www.grammy.com/news/andre-3000-new-blue-sun-interview) from rapping, the expert flutist embeds *New Blue Sun* with an organic authenticity. The album feels limitlessly atmospheric, dipping into an ambience that teeters between peaceful and precarious.

With [Big Boi](https://www.grammy.com/artists/antwon-big-boi-patton/353) in the ‘90s, André 3000 undoubtedly helped shape hip-hop, pushing the genre forward with creative integrations of funk, jazz, rock, and gospel. In 2024, he continues to break rules as he champions [alternative jazz](https://www.grammy.com/news/alternative-jazz-albums-new-grammys-category-2024) — all with his flute by his side.

When [Beyoncé](https://www.grammy.com/news/beyonce-cowboy-carter-review-new-album-takeaways-country)’s first country song came out in 2016, people questioned if the icon belonged on the country radio — despite the [indisputable impact of Black artists on the genre](https://www.grammy.com/news/black-country-singers-songs-history-beyonce-act-ii-kane-brown-heaven). Eight years later, the genre-bending diva is still drowning out the noise by switching on her very own radio station: *[COWBOY CARTER](https://www.grammy.com/news/beyonce-cowboy-carter-review-new-album-takeaways-country)*’s KNTRY Radio Texas, that is.

The fantasy station is one of the many visionary elements of *COWBOY CARTER*, an album that honors the cultural [contributions of Black artists](https://www.grammy.com/news/black-country-singers-songs-history-beyonce-act-ii-kane-brown-heaven) to American country music. The eighth studio project is Act II of her album trilogy; while the first installment *[RENAISSANCE](https://www.grammy.com/news/beyonce-renaissance-winner-best-dance-electronic-music-album-2023-grammys-watch-acceptance-speech)* (2022) focused on futuristic escapism, *COWBOY CARTER* looks to the past. It pays [vibrant tribute to the Black community’s roots in country music](https://www.grammy.com/news/beyonce-cowboy-carter-genres-beyond-country-opera-hip-hop-blues-gospel-folk), offering a glorious reimagination of Americana.

Not just championing but also reinventing Southern subgenres, *COWBOY CARTER* is yet another example of Beyoncé’s revolutionary versatility. While it may be a metaphor for his career in 2024, Boone's swift ascent is the result of a promising last few years.

Hailing from Monroe, Washington, he first caught the public's attention during a short stint on season 19 of "American Idol" in 2021. As the 22-year-old built momentum via TikTok, [Imagine Dragons](https://grammy.com/artists/imagine-dragons/18215)' [Dan Reynolds](https://grammy.com/artists/dan-reynolds/18072) also saw his potential, and promptly signed Benson to his label, Night Street Records, in partnership with Warner Records.

Boone's first hit single, 2021's "Ghost Town," foreshadowed his talent for vulnerable songwriting and catchy piano lines, followed by the release of two EPs in 2022 and 2023. However, his bonafide breakthrough came only in January of this year, with the soaring "Beautiful Things" — a global smash that peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and surpassed 1.5 billion streams on Spotify as of press time. The 25-year-old singer was right. 2024 was the year that took Carpenter to the superstardom stratosphere, with three chart-smashing, defining hits — "Espresso," "Please, Please, Please," and "Taste" — a dazzling debut at Coachella, and a tenure opening Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Latin America, Australia and Asia.

But Carpenter's success is hard-earned. It's a banging introduction to the rapper, who has since signed with Top Dawg Entertainment (home to Isaiah Rashad, [SZA](https://grammy.com/artists/Solana-Rowe/32514) and more), released two EPs and three mixtapes, collaborated with the likes of Kodak Black and [Katy Perry](https://grammy.com/artists/katy-perry/5726), supported [Doja Cat](https://www.grammy.com/artists/doja-cat/287205) on tour, and has now earned her first GRAMMY nominations.

Born Jaylah Hickmon in Tampa, Florida, [Doechii](https://www.grammy.com/news/5-emerging-artists-pushing-electronic-dance-music-forward-moore-kisment-shygirl-pink-pantheress-doechii) was a theater kid who wrote poetry before adding beats to her bars. Her music is confessional, irreverent and unapologetic, sourcing her experiences as a Black woman and transmuting them into provocative, empowering anthems — see 2022's "Crazy," whose music video was banned from trending on YouTube due to its violence and nudity content.

But it didn't faze her. The scenes were not for shock value, but to express the hardships that women go through, and to challenge the sexualized gaze over them. After all, [as she said](https://www.grammy.com/news/5-emerging-artists-pushing-electronic-dance-music-forward-moore-kisment-shygirl-pink-pantheress-doechii) in a since-deleted Instagram post, "'Crazy' is about uncontained power, creativity and confidence. People call you crazy when they fear you or they don't understand you. So when I use it in the song, I'm reflecting that energy back on them to show them themselves." 

Doechii has yet to release a debut studio album, but her latest mixtape, August's *Alligator Bites Never Heal*, is a strong display of her brilliant storytelling and quirky uniqueness. Coupled with the success of her previous releases, *Alligator Bites*'s critical acclaim suggests that the "Swamp Princess" is bound to fly even higher.

From Middle Eastern scales to Peruvian *cumbia*, the intercontinental influences within their sound transport listeners around the world. 

Formed by bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, guitarist Mark Speer, and drummer Donald "DJ" Johnson Jr., they first took inspiration in Thai funk from the '60s and '70s, and in 2015 released their debut LP, *The Universe Smiles Upon You*. Now four albums in, the band has crafted a lush soundscape that can be both nostalgic and avant-garde, familiar and strange. They've entranced fans from Barack Obama to [Jay-Z](https://grammy.com/artists/jay-z/9815), played at festivals like Coachella and sold out several tours (including two nights at New York's Radio City Music Hall), and collaborated with icons such as [Paul McCartney](https://grammy.com/artists/paul-mccartney/4678).

For the past four years, Khruangbin focused on their aggregating nature: they put out [two EPs with soul singer Leon Bridges](https://www.grammy.com/news/leon-bridges-khruangbin-texas-moon-ep-interview) (2020's *Texas Sun* and 2022's *Texas Moon*), 2022's *Ali* with Vieux Farka Touré, and a series of 2023 live recordings in partnership with Toro y Moi, Nubya Garcia, and Men I Trust. It was time the trio turned down outside noise, and focused on their own synergy. Khruangbin's latest album, *A La Sala* ("to the room," in Spanish), arrived in April as a core example of their essence — for the first time, they had no additional collaborators, resulting in a rebirth of their original magic. 

With this return to their roots and their rising popularity, a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist stands as an invite for even more people to dive into their ethereal, exceptional work.

For seven years, South London singer/songwriter RAYE was kept in the talent basement of Polydor Records, unable to release her debut LP. During that time, she co-penned songs for acts like [Beyoncé](https://grammy.com/artists/beyonce-knowles/12474) and [Rihanna](https://grammy.com/artists/rihanna/5943), released five EPs and a handful of singles, including collaborations with [David Guetta](https://grammy.com/artists/david-guetta/12848) and [Martin Solveig](https://grammy.com/news/spinning-gold-movie-casablanca-records-biopic-songs-kiss-donna-summer-village-people-cher-george-clinton-neil-bogart), but she knew it wasn't half of what she had to offer.

"Imagine this pain. I have been signed to a major label since 2014...and I have had albums on albums of music sat in folders collecting dust," she [shared](https://x.com/raye/status/1409901542275268615) on Twitter back in 2021, reflecting on her situation. "Songs I am now giving away to A-list artists because I am still awaiting confirmation that I am good enough to release an album."

Shortly after that confession, RAYE (whose birth name is Rachel Keen) parted ways with Polydor and became an independent artist. Slowly, she pieced together the riveting songs that formed her hard-fought 2023 debut, *My 21st Century Blues*. Her resonant voice and raw lyricism earned raving reviews, and the album's lead single, "Escapism" took off — going viral on TikTok, topping the UK Singles Chart, and becoming her first Billboard Hot 100 entry. 

It was a pivotal moment for the now 27-year-old, proving that her intuition and belief in herself paid off. Since "Jeff Gordon," Shaboozey signed to Republic Records and released his 2018 debut, *Lady Wrangler*, followed by 2022's *Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die*, via EMPIRE. It can take years for an artist to work on their masterpiece. [John Lennon](https://grammy.com/artists/john-lennon/3905) originally wrote the demo in the late '70s. It's a mournful, piano-backed confession: "I know it's true/ It's all because of you/ And if I make it through/ It's all because of you."

The song remained unfinished long after Lennon's tragic 1980 passing, but — in a powerful act of love — his bandmates completed it for him. [Paul McCartney](https://grammy.com/artists/paul-mccartney/4678) enlisted [Giles Martin](https://grammy.com/artists/giles-martin/9336) (the son of Beatles' former producer and longtime collaborator [George Martin](https://grammy.com/artists/george-martin/4663)) as the song's co-producer, using Lennon's original 1977 demo, [George Harrison](https://grammy.com/artists/george-harrison/2775)'s guitar melodies from the 1995 *Anthology* sessions, and [Ringo Starr](https://grammy.com/artists/ringo-starr/12572)'s drumming and backing vocals from 2022. "Now And Then," which marked the Beatles' 35th top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100, is a tearful close to the band's legacy.

## Beyoncé — "TEXAS HOLD 'EM"

The 32-time GRAMMY winning icon has long [incorporated African American history](https://grammy.com/news/beyonce-cowboy-carter-genres-beyond-country-opera-hip-hop-blues-gospel-folk) in her music, and "TEXAS HOLD 'EM" is no different. The single, like many tunes on *COWBOY CARTER*, is rooted in liberation. Country music is the backbone of America, but its [roots in Black culture](https://grammy.com/news/black-country-singers-songs-history-beyonce-act-ii-kane-brown-heaven) are often hidden. With "TEXAS HOLD 'EM," Beyoncé lifts the veil off the genre's true history by celebrating both her Houston heritage and the Black country artists that paved the way for her.

The song's message is clear, but it's balanced by playful melodies, Beyoncé's signature stacked harmonies and a plucking banjo (played by [Rhiannon Giddens](https://grammy.com/artists/rhiannon-giddens/16736), an advocate for the reclamation of country music instruments by Black musicians). While Beyoncé is no stranger to chart-topping hits ("TEXAS HOLD 'EM" is her ninth solo No. 1 single on the Hot 100), she made history as the first Black woman to score a No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.

Sabrina Carpenter does whimsy so well. Chalk it up to her Disney Channel roots, but the singer's innate ability to craft an earworm is why she's skyrocketed as one of the biggest pop stars of the new generation. That confidence is found all throughout "Espresso," from her cooing vocals to her cheeky songwriting ("I can't relate to desperation/ My give-a-f—s are on vacation"). Charli xcx has long been one of the coolest girls in pop, and her sixth album *brat* cemented that fact. On "360," the album's second single, the British star not only acknowledges her own cool factor, but of those around her. Produced by longtime collaborator [A. G. Cook](https://grammy.com/news/ag-cook-art-perfect-pop-song), the song trades in the producer's signature exaggerated hyperpop sonics for more minimalistic synths that complement Charli's auto-tuned vocals.

"I went my own way and I made it/ I'm your favorite reference, baby," Charli xcx exclaims on the cocky opening line before comparing herself to friends like model/musician Gabbriette and actress Julia Fox. "360" is a cheeky reflection of the ever-growing digital era, giving fellow internet "It" girls an anthem for the ages.

## Billie Eilish — "BIRDS OF A FEATHER"

The beauty of Billie Eilish's artistry is in her vulnerability. For the nine-time GRAMMY winner's third album *HIT ME HARD AND SOFT*, she pushed herself into her deeper territories with the assistance of her brother and go-to collaborator [FINNEAS](https://grammy.com/artists/finneas-oconnell/251939).

Second single "BIRDS OF A FEATHER" best exemplifies the album title's meaning in both its tenderness and desperation. It was initially intended to be a traditional love song, but given the siblings' unorthodox track record, they couldn't resist making it *slightly* untraditional: "I want you to stay/ 'Til I'm in the grave/ 'Til I rot away, dead and buried/ 'Til I'm in the casket you carry," Eilish sings on the opening verse in her signature whisper. 

Even with the juxtaposing lyrics, the song's airy production and wistfully gauzy synths still make for a beautiful, adoring statement piece. And the heartfelt sentiment paired with Eilish's breathy vocals quickly made "BIRDS OF A FEATHER" the biggest hit from *HIT ME HARD AND SOFT*, already garnering nearly 1.5 billion Spotify streams as of press time.

Branding Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" as merely a diss track would be doing it a disservice. The 17-time GRAMMY winner's tune is not just a rap song, but a cultural phenomenon. A seething finale to his (very public) feud with [Drake](https://grammy.com/artists/drake/12370), "Not Like Us" is a triumphant win for both Lamar and rap music as a whole.

Atop a buzzing sample of Monk Higgins' 1968 "I Believe to My Soul" cover, Lamar delivers slick wordplay and calls out Drake's presumed cultural appropriation of Southern rap: "You run to Atlanta when you need a few dollars/ No, you not a colleague, you a f—in' colonizer."

Following its release, the song took on a life on its own: tennis icon Serena Williams (Drake's alleged former lover) crip walked to the track at the 2024 ESPY Awards, [Megan Thee Stallion](https://grammy.com/artists/Megan-Pete/35996) and [Janet Jackson](https://grammy.com/artists/janet-jackson/13590) incorporated it into their concerts, and many national sports leagues used it in their game broadcasts.

Drama aside, "Not Like Us" — which also scored a Song Of The Year nomination — is a celebration of West Coast hip-hop. Lamar, a proud Compton native, enlisted Los Angeles-born [DJ Mustard](https://grammy.com/news/where-do-you-keep-your-grammy-mustard) to produce the track. The chopped-up sample is inspired by Oakland's "hyphy" rap subgenre, while Lamar exaggerates his already-animated cadence, paying homage to late Los Angeles rapper Drakeo the Ruler. While "Not Like Us" is a targeted diss, it's also a reminder of California's historical impact on rap — and Lamar's place within that legacy.

Chappell Roan grabbed the world's attention with her bombastic interpretation of baroque pop and her knack for highlighting queer romance. "Good Luck, Babe!," April's breakout hit following her 2023 debut LP, *The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess*, ushered in a new chapter.

The song discusses compulsory heterosexuality, as Roan sings about a woman she's dating who tries to deny her feelings for Roan: "You can kiss a hundred boys in bars/ Shoot another shot, try to stop the feeling." 

"I knew exactly what I wanted. After obsessing over Motown, Parliament Funkadelic, [Prince](https://grammy.com/artists/prince/5675) and [James Brown](https://grammy.com/artists/james-brown/819) as a young person, Alissia took up the bass and started to commit herself fully to a life in music. "I was a big funk-head, ‘70s funk," she told [Sweetwater](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGmnEy--7Wo). "I was kind of like a sponge…I was a big nerd and wanted to learn how to arrange for a big band and orchestra." 

Translating that love into actual work with none other than [Bootsy Collins](https://grammy.com/artists/bootsy-collins/8003), then, must have elevated Alissia into some level of funk heaven. Since then, Alissia has continued to evolve her grooves and style, working with artists ranging from [Anderson .Paak](https://grammy.com/artists/anderson-paak/19926) and [Bruno Mars](https://grammy.com/artists/bruno-mars/5082), to [Nile Rodgers](https://grammy.com/artists/nile-rodgers/15233) and [Mary J. Blige](https://grammy.com/artists/mary-j-blige/779). In 2024, that interstellar journey culminated in an impressive swathe of releases in soul, R&amp;B, and funk.

Take, for example, the sublime "Is It Worth It", a slippery groove that elevates Rae Khalil’s smoke-laced voice to obscene extremes. Or ["Love Takeover"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-cL5Gv8oCc&pp=ygUVTG92ZSBUYWtlb3ZlcuKAnSBsaW9u) from R&amp;B duo Lion Babe, a track that could single-handedly transport an entire dancefloor back to the heights of the disco era while retaining a modernist bass flow. 

The Swiss-born, New York-based producer’s soulful niche has also found a match in a pair of Chicago artists. Alissia produced the opening track to Jamila Woods’ *Water Made Us*, and ["Bugs"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXsYUI8Wqko) gives a nostalgic and sensuous tone to the poet/vocalist’s lilting voice. Alissia’s hard-thumping rhythms also lift up [BJ the Chicago Kid](https://grammy.com/artists/bj-chicago-kid/18321), giving a new energy to his regal voice. 

Whether DJing, playing bass, or working behind the board, Alissia finds a lithe, effortless cool that’s downright infectious. "To me, what makes a great record is when you did it from your heart. You really felt it, it wasn't forced or anything, it was genuine, you made it with love," she told [GRAMMY.com](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=QCUs8cEa6D0). "Music is feelings. There's no competition. eVerybody has something different to bring to the table."

With [Jack Antonoff](https://grammy.com/artists/jack-antonoff/248) out of the running after three wins in a row in this category, Dernst Emile II, a.k.a. R&amp;B/hip-hop producer D’Mile, hopes that he can take his turn at the top. And thanks to some incredible work with a coterie of smooth eccentrics, this could well be his time.

Over the past few years, D’mile has helped usher a lux, live brand of vintage R&amp;B to the fore, resulting in his becoming the first person to net back-to-back Song Of The Year awards for [H.E.R.](https://www.grammy.com/artists/her/243298)'s "I Can't Breathe" and [Silk Sonic](https://grammy.com/artists/Silk-Sonic/38634)'s "Leave the Door Open," not to mention recognition for his work with the likes of Victoria Monet and Mary J. Blige.

D’mile’s soulful penchant for fusion brought the best out of a wide variety of artists. From bringing a reeling jig to Koe Wetzel’s ["Bar Song"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBAIVDe06GQ&pp=ygUaS29lIFdldHplbOKAmXMgIkJhciBTb25nIiA%3D) to putting a sepia glow on [Lady Gaga](https://grammy.com/artists/lady-gaga/3611) and Bruno Mars’ duet ["Die With a Smile,"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPa7bsKwL-c&pp=ygUTIkRpZSBXaXRoIGEgU21pbGUsIg%3D%3D) this year found D’mile pushing his already expansive boundaries. At the same time, he knew exactly how to pull the best out of styles that hit closer to home, like the Prince-adjacent funk of [Usher](https://grammy.com/artists/usher/16167)’s ["I Love U"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWKSI3pgf_Y&pp=ygURIkkgTG92ZSBVIiAgdXNoZXI%3D) and the swanky throwback "That’s You" from [Lucky Daye](https://grammy.com/artists/david-brown/251887) (an artist with whom D’mile has already had success, gaining gold for his work on 2022’s Best Progressive R&amp;B Album, *Table for Two*. 

There’s something so natural about a D’mile track — and that seems to be by design. "It’s like when you cook, you got to make the right concoction and make sure the love is in it," he told *[Vibe](https://www.vibe.com/lists/dmile-interview-outtakes/d-mile-interview-love-songs/)*. "Can you explain what you just did? No. You just threw stuff in the pot."

The Brooklynite has already notched six GRAMMY wins and an Academy Award, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. But on his third run at Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical, D'Mile is surely ready to finally take the award home. And if this pace continues, there’s no reason to doubt that he could go on his own three-year streak.

When [Kacey Musgraves](https://grammy.com/artists/kacey-musgraves/18025) took home the GRAMMY Award for Best Country Album in 2019 for *Golden Hour*, she made sure to bring Ian Fitchuk onto the stage and to give him a shoutout. The Chicago-born, Nashville-based musician co-produced the record and played a variety of instruments across its 13 tracks — helping Musgraves unlock the truest expression of her version of country music to date. 

This year, Fitchuk nabbed a nomination for Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical in part for his work on Musgraves’ latest, the dazzling *[Deeper Well](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kxZB9ZBqP98R9va9KdUywh0eMUk5B-wkU&si=m9LEQ9D6gxAPkezN)*. Speaking of helping shape unique perspectives on country, Fitchuk’s year also featured a spot on the writing and production team for "Amen" on [Beyoncé](https://grammy.com/artists/beyonce-knowles/12474)’s *Cowboy Carter*. "I had the crazy idea of, ‘What if we got Beyoncé on a song \[with Kacey Musgraves\]?" he [recalled in an interview with ](https://www.vulture.com/article/producer-cowboy-carter-kacey-musgraves-ian-fitchuk.html)*[Vulture](https://www.vulture.com/article/producer-cowboy-carter-kacey-musgraves-ian-fitchuk.html)*. While that track may never be finished, the process led to Fitchuk getting a call when Queen B was prepping her country record.

Another high-profile hit in Fitchuk's catalog comes via co-write on the ecstatic ["Silk Chiffon,"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhyk9rchC2c&pp=ygUOIlNpbGsgQ2hpZmZvbiI%3D) the queer anthem from MUNA featuring [Phoebe Bridgers](https://grammy.com/artists/phoebe-bridgers/287153), as well as producing the multimillion-streamed ["Until I Found You"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxldQ9eX2wo&pp=ygUmIlVudGlsIEkgRm91bmQgWW91IiBieSBTdGVwaGVuIFNhbmNoZXo%3D) by [Stephen Sanchez](https://grammy.com/news/stephen-sanchez-tour-until-i-found-you-interview-evangeline-elton-john). This year’s Pr nomination is powered in part by Fitchuk’s role as producer for the album that spawned that latter hit, a debut that radiates vintage AM glow. Fitchuk's big year also featured work with the likes of [Maggie Rogers](https://grammy.com/artists/maggie-rogers/251991), Still Woozy, and Role Model, not to mention working with Musgraves and [Leon Bridges](https://grammy.com/artists/leon-bridges/18920) on their contributions to an album of music inspired by the film *[Bob Marley: One Love](https://grammy.com/news/bob-marley-one-love-biopic-takeaways)*.

That diverse list of artists belies Fitchuk’s greatest strength: a willingness to experiment with country tropes while respecting the genre’s history. "I think ‘What is country music?’ is an exhausting question," he told *Vulture*. "I’m down to be making all different kinds of versions of whatever anybody thinks country music is. Because I didn’t grow up with it, by me fucking with it in any way, it’s going to be its own thing."
