Digitalisation and microfinance are having a transformative impact on climate resilience in Kenya. 📱💰 In this #DRRvoices blog post, Jacinta Kamemba explains how VisionFund International partners with a local fintech provider to empower farmers to access digital loans via mobile phones. Within hours of receiving a drought warning, farmers could borrow emergency funds to buy critical supplies – like water tanks – to protect their crops. Nancy dreams big. "I want to expand my business into a wholesale shop. This work brings me joy, and I’m proud to support my husband and parents," she shares. Nancy is one of 8,772 girls benefiting from the #USAIDTumikiaMtoto project, a life-changing initiative funded by USAID. This program equips adolescent girls and young women with vital economic skills to boost stability, create job opportunities, and empower them to succeed as entrepreneurs. Implemented by World Vision Kenya and six local implementing organizations, including AVSI Foundation, the project fosters skill-building, nurtures expertise, and paves the way for social and economic transformation. #EconomicEmpowerment #PeopleForDevelopment

Education is everything to a child, and ensuring Access to Education is one of the 5 key pillars for World Vision's Big Dream to End Child Marriage. World Vision's work goes beyond providing school fees and building classroom and dormitories. They also ensure children know their rights and have a platform to advocate to government and other adults in authority to push for the resources and support so that they can learn and ultimately create a bright future for themselves! This is one of the reasons I continue to support World Vision and the Big Dream! hashtag #SWSW #WorldVisionUSA #EndChildMarriage #EndFGM

Through our Big Dream to end Child Marriage program, we have marked the #WorldChildrensDay in an event at Nalingangor Primary School in Samburu North Sub-County. Over 700 children attended the event calling on government and caregivers to safeguard their rights and remove the barriers that prevent them from accessing education. Together with government and other stakeholders we made a commitment to continue working together to accelerate change towards promoting the rights of children as we #Listentothefuture where children enjoy the fullness life. #WorldChildrensDay #ForEveryChild #WorldVisionKenya

  • This week, World Vision Kenya, in collaboration with the Migori County Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary Services, Fisheries and Blue Economy Department and our consortium partners under the Global EverGreening Alliance's #RestoreAfrica Programme—The Green Belt Movement and Africa Harvest Biotech Foundation International—took significant steps toward sustainable livelihoods and climate action. 💡 We empowered 23 lead farmers with critical skills in: ✅ Business Model Development ✅ Group Formation and Management ✅ Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for key value chains - mango, local chicken and sorghum. 🌱 As part of this initiative, we established a community demonstration (demo) farm in Kachieng ward, featuring 50 grafted mango tree seedlings. This demo farm will serve as a hub for hands-on learning and innovation in sustainable agriculture, equipping local farmers to adapt to climate change and improve their income and livelihoods. 💚 We’re restoring landscapes by growing a greener future, one seedling at a time! #Agroforestry #FMNR #SustainableAgriculture CIFOR-ICRAF | Justdiggit | Self Help Africa | World Vision Australia

  • Our Central Rift Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration Scale-Up Project #CRIFSUP recently hosted distinguished members from the WVK Ministry Committee and Senior Leadership Team, including Dr. Anne Kimari, David Liambilia, Heglon Kitawi, and Fredrick Kasiku, in West Pokot County. This trip showcased the potential of the Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration #FMNR approach as a community-driven solution for sustainable and thriving communities in #ASAL areas. The team was inspired by the stories of 3 farmers who have overcome adversity and proven that, with determination, transformation is within anyone’s reach. What does transformation look like with #FMNR? ✅ Farmers embracing new, sustainable agricultural practices ✅ Better nutrition and well-being for families ✅ Restored soils and enhanced land productivity ✅ Increased household income through sustainable practices ✅ Access to a reliable, eco-friendly source of fuelwood for cooking ✅ Families able to grow #ENOUGH food to meet their needs ✅ Reducing violence and improving safety for communities, especially boys and girls Special thanks to the Australian NGO Cooperation Program #ANCP for their funding, which has better equipped these communities to thrive and become more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

🎄 The Christmas season is here! Today, we gathered as a family to celebrate God’s goodness and the incredible privilege of serving the most vulnerable children, their families, and the communities where we work. With hearts full of joy, hope, and love, we are reminded of the light 💡 Christ brings into our lives and how we’re called to share that light with those we serve. This season, we’re especially thankful for the lives we’ve touched, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the hope we’ve been able to spread. It’s a time to pause, give thanks, and renew our dedication to walking alongside those who need us most. May this season inspire all of us to keep making a difference, one child at a time and Christ at the center at all times!
