We promote progressive taxation systems in Africa
About us
Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) is a Pan-African organisation and a member of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice. It is a network of 32 members in 16 African countries with whom collaboration focuses on tax justice advocacy at the national and regional levels. TJNA seeks to promote socially just and progressive taxation systems in Africa, advocating for pro-poor tax policies and the strengthening of tax systems to promote domestic resource mobilisation. TJNA aims to challenge harmful tax policies and practices that favour the wealthy and aggravate and perpetuate inequality. This account publicises the activities Tax Justice Network Africa implements with co-funding from several partners. Its contents are the sole responsibility of Tax Justice Network Africa and do not necessarily reflect the views of Tax Justice Network Africa's partners.

“Kenya's escalating public debt, which surged by USD 10.8 billion as of June, has placed a heavy burden on society. Debt servicing, combined with rising taxes, has left essential sectors like health, education, and transport severely underfunded. Adding to the crisis, significant revenue losses due to corruption, wastage, and tax avoidance have further strained public finances, undermining service delivery and deepening the economic challenges facing citizens.” Leonard Wanyama from the East African Tax and Governance Network challenges the Kenyan government to address the debt crisis by tackling IFFs and improving domestic revenue mobilization, critical steps toward reducing reliance on borrowing and easing the burden on citizens as well as #StopTheBleeding of domestic resources.
