Our CEO, Hannah Ryder (芮 婉 洁) shared insights on BBC News ‘s FOCUS ON AFRICA about China’s zero-tariff policy for 33 LDCs announced at the #FOCAC Summit. While welcoming the initiative, she highlighted that middle-income African countries still face tariffs. Hannah Ryder (芮 婉 洁) emphasized that reducing tariffs is a step in the right direction, but China can do more by promoting African products, raising awareness, and connecting them to distributors and retailers in Chinese markets. Timely Reparations for Timeless Wrongs. Check below ⤵️ this timely report on reparations by The Advocacy Team in collaboration with Development Reimagined! In a recent speech in Kingston, Jamaica, Jeremy Corbyn, Independent MP for Islington North and member of the APPG for Afrikan Reparations, emphasised that reparations involve “recognising this nation’s [the UK’s] role in crimes against humanity, no matter how uncomfortable that process of reflection may be.” Reparations, though sometimes seen as a complex term, simply refer to measures taken to acknowledge, address, and compensate for historical injustices and systemic harms inflicted on marginalised communities. Such measures are crucial for addressing historical wrongs, promoting economic equity, fostering restoration and healing, preventing future harm, and upholding moral responsibility. To learn more about reparations, the measures involved, and how Global North countries can finance these efforts, consult the report compiled by our experts at The Advocacy Team in collaboration with Development Reimagined ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dYd5VvvM

Yesterday was #WorldAIDSDay, a crucial reminder that the fight against HIV/AIDS continues to be a pressing issue, especially in Africa. In 2023, sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 67% of global HIV cases and 60% of new infections. While significant progress has been made, including over 70% of people living with HIV in the region now on antiretroviral treatment (ART), there are still challenges in accessing consistent care, especially in rural areas. The rise of tools like PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) shows promise, but access remains a significant barrier. Additionally, the stigma surrounding HIV continues to hinder efforts to encourage testing and treatment. We must continue pushing for political leadership, increased investments in healthcare infrastructure, and global partnerships to meet the 2030 goal of ending the epidemic. The next generation, particularly young women, remains at high risk, and they need access to both prevention education and treatment. Together, we can make progress toward a world where HIV/AIDS is no longer a crisis. 👉 Read more about the ongoing fight against HIV in Africa and how we can make a lasting impact: https://lnkd.in/dERyvb-t #EndAIDS #HIVPrevention #GlobalHealth #HealthEquity #WorldAIDSDay #SustainableDevelopment
