What is IFAD calling for at #COP29? Hear it from IFAD President Alvaro Lario ⬇️

🌍By investing more than US$1.28 billion in climate adaptation and sustainable food production for the period 2022-2024, IFAD has both increased and exceeded its goals in concretely delivering financing to rural and vulnerable populations. ❝Climate change affects us all, but small farmers — who grow nearly half our food — are on the front lines with the least resources to adapt,❞ said IFAD President Alvaro Lario. 📅Released today at #COP29, IFAD's 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 is filled with real-life examples of projects that IFAD funds across the world. In Brazil, IFAD reached 75,000 rural families with training on land restoration and biodiversity conservation, re-establishing soil cover with native vegetation, and developing nurseries for the production of seedlings. 🛰️IFAD is also collaborating with the European Space Agency - ESA to use cutting edge satellite data and remote sensing technologies to transform how small-scale farmers adapt to climate change. ❝Investing in their success isn’t just moral — it’s smart economics. That’s why IFAD is ramping up support and channeling more funds to rural communities.❞ said Lario. ➡️Read more: https://bit.ly/3CpyIyY

🌍 As intensifying climate change compromises crops worldwide, IFAD President Alvaro Lario calls for global leaders attending #COP29 to set an ambitious goal on finance for adaptation. 🌱 📅 The upcoming 𝐂𝐎𝐏𝟐𝟗 is expected to set the New Collective Quantified Goal for climate finance, which will serve as the new financial target for contributions to support developing countries in tackling climate change. 🗣️ ❝The first step is for leaders at COP29 to set an ambitious goal for adaptation finance that allows food production to continue even as the planet warms,❞ said Lario. 💰 IFAD indicatively estimates the finance gap for small-scale farmers’ adaptation to climate change at about 𝐔𝐒$ 𝟕𝟓 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 in developing countries. 📊 Data show that global climate finance for small-scale agri-food systems is strikingly low, at an annual average of just 𝐔𝐒$ 𝟓.𝟓𝟑 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in 2019/20, equivalent to just 𝟎.𝟖% of total climate finance tracked across all sectors. 🌾 ❝Adaptation is a matter of global food security, but also geopolitical stability. Rising food prices, hunger, and poverty lead to forced migrations and conflicts.❞ said Lario. More information: https://bit.ly/3NZYZX2
