At #COP28 in UAE, 160 countries came together to commit to #FoodSystems and #Agriculture Declaration with a two year's timeline. These aspirations of the declaration are both broad and ambitious, and there are many ways that countries can make headway ahead of 2025 deadline. At AGRA, we believe that four key areas are critical in achieving these commitments. How do we achieve UAE food declaration by 2025. 1. #Innovations - This is not solely about agri-tech or new seed varieties. It is also about innovation to farmers, for example incorporating last mile service delivery to farmers as well as governance of natural resources and distribution of benefits. As AGRA, we are demonstrating this through our Village Based Advisor model that has supported many smallholder farmers. In Africa, most governments have not allocated 10% of their national government budget to agriculture as stipulated in the #MalaboDeclaration. Behaviour Change on #FoodWaste&Loss - Much of the food we’re currently producing is ultimately lost or wasted. High-quality seeds are often more productive, leading to higher crop yields. This means farmers can produce more food, which can be sold for income or used to feed their families. At AGRA, we put emphasis on the importance of the right seeds because they are a cornerstone of sustainable agricultural development. By providing farmers with access to high-quality, climate-smart seeds, we aims to boost productivity, improve food security, and ultimately lift rural communities out of poverty. With higher yields and better crop quality, farmers can access better markets and increase their income, which can be reinvested into their farms or used for education, healthcare, and other essential needs.

At the recent AfricanUnion CAADP side event in Harare, AGRA and GanzAfrica Foundation emphasized the crucial role of youth in driving Africa’s food systems transformation. Through initiatives like the African Agribusiness Youth Strategy, we’re seeing a focus on empowering young Africans with policy and data skills. By engaging youth in agriculture and policymaking, we're creating opportunities for them to shape and implement strategies that accelerate CAADP goals in the post-Malabo era. Small-scale farmers, who produce up to 70% of food in Africa, often lack the resources to adapt to climate change. At #COP29Baku AGRA will follow up on tangible actions on the commitments outlined in the COP28 #FoodSystems Declaration which was endorsed by 160 countries, focusing on the urgency required by all stakeholders to secure sustainable food supplies, improve nutrition, and strengthen resilience against climate impacts. #AGRAatCOP29
