During a recent CII event, Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal highlighted a critical issue—India’s peak power demand is expected to surpass 400 GW by 2032. I believe a significant contributor to this demand is the growing need for human thermal comfort, primarily driven by the increasing use of cooling solutions like ACs, coolers, and ceiling fans. These solutions play a crucial role in meeting the rising demand, as evidenced by global efforts such as the tightening measures in the US Energy Star program, the ICAP program in India, etc. Nearly every household has a fan, and the number of air conditioners is rising rapidly, particularly in commercial spaces. There have already been efforts, such as the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), revising efficiency requirements and mandating star labeling for ceiling fans, aiming to make energy efficiency a key market driver. EESL supplemented that with its plans to distribute a large number of 5-star ceiling fans. At Superfan and Versa Drives, we have been aligned with these efforts for over a decade, pioneering energy-efficient technologies long before these mandates. I explored these initiatives and the need for greater standardization in my latest article for the ET Government.

Every year we shall break the record for peak power demand, the amount of power we are adding to the grid is insufficient to suffice the requirement of a rapidly industrializing populace. If you add the burden of transitioning to renewable sources for power generation it makes the situation intenable. Picking up several management concepts, theories and tools helped me in looking the management and leadership role differently. The idea of using framework makes the management process fast and more credible. At the age of 54 I had a lot to catch up with Data Science, this course was very helpful - ML, DL, AI, AR, Big Data are no more Greek and Latin. It has been a great experience to undergo 2 years Online MBA Course from SNU. India's data centre market is forecast to exceed 1,300 MW by the end of 2024 from about 1,048 MW at end-2023 and around 880 MW as of June 2023, a CBRE report said. According to a 2021 Nasscom report, India is expected to receive an average annual investment of $5 billion in the sector by 2025. Globally, the AI server market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 26.5% between 2024 and 2029 and reach $50.65 billion by 2029, as per a Research & Markets report. Under the current regime, unified license holders with access service authorization (telecom operators) and virtual network operator license holders can provide leased bandwidth or point-to-point connectivity to enterprises. The industry has been seeking clarification on whether these licensed holders are also permitted to provide dark fibre to enterprises. Dark fibre refers to the optical fibre on which bandwidth is not leased from the network provider and data centres have full control of its management. This is important for captive use cases and may become crucial when, for instance, data centres want to expand beyond one building or campus to a nearby location across a public road. In India during FY 23-24, renewable energy (RE) contributed more than 70 per cent of the 26 GW of new power generated in the country. India's total installed energy capacity has now reached 442 GW, with RE comprising approximately 33 per cent (144 GW) and hydro contributing 11 per cent (47 GW), according to the report by CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF). The report further highlights that solar energy, including both grid-scale and rooftop installations, continued to dominate India's RE capacity addition, constituting approximately 81 per cent (15 GW) of the total RE addition in FY24. The wind capacity addition nearly doubled, reaching 3.3 GW compared to 2.3 GW in FY23. Additionally, nuclear capacity (1.4 GW) was added for the first time since FY17. In line with India's ambitious renewable energy targets, RE auctions soared to a record high, reaching approximately 41 GW of auctioned capacity in FY24. Furthermore, the report highlighted the conclusion of eight auctions with energy storage components, indicating a growing shift towards innovative power procurement formats.
