Singapore expands energy efficiency grant The government also identified two tiers of support under the grant. Summary: Singapore is broadening the scope of its Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) to include a wider range of sectors, extending support to businesses in manufacturing, construction, maritime, data centers, and their users. Initially launched in 2022 to aid companies within the food services, food manufacturing, and retail sectors, the EEG is designed to co-fund the procurement of energy-efficient equipment, promoting sustainable practices across diverse industries. Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highlighted that the grant is available to companies registered and operating in Singapore that meet specific criteria, including having at least 30% local shareholding, employing at least one local staff member, and having group annual sales of $500 million or below. The expansion of the EEG comes with the introduction of two tiers of support to cater to the varied needs and capacities of businesses seeking to enhance their energy efficiency: Base Tier: This tier offers support for 70% of the costs associated with pre-approved energy-efficient equipment for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and 30% for non-SMEs, up to a cap of $30,000 per company. This tier aims to make it easier for a broad range of businesses to access and invest in energy-efficient solutions. Advanced Tier: Targeting selected sectors, this tier provides a higher support cap of $350,000 across both base and advanced tiers. Unlike the base tier, equipment under the advanced tier does not need pre-approval, but it must demonstrate significant energy savings, with over 350 trillion in lifetime carbon abatement. The grant amount is determined based on the lower of the support levels under the base tier or the equipment's expected lifetime carbon abatement, offering a substantial incentive for companies to pursue high-impact energy-saving measures. This strategic expansion and structuring of the EEG reflect Singapore's commitment to fostering environmental sustainability and energy efficiency across its economy. These panels are expected to generate approximately 920,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to powering 450 four-room Housing Development Board flats and saving about 💲220,000 in energy costs per year.
