This decision was driven by several factors: Market Potential: They recognized the growing demand for innovative ice cream products. Expertise: They already had extensive experience in the ice cream business. Goodwill: They had strong relationships with distributors and a positive reputation in the Indian market. Emerging Quick Commerce: The rise of quick commerce platforms provided a perfect boost for launching a new-age ice cream brand like Hocco. They secured a Rs 100 crore investment from Sauce.vc VC and other angel investors, successfully re-entering the ice cream market with renewed focus and innovation. Non-competitive clauses provide breathing room for Ankit Chona to plan their next move strategically without immediate competition. Patanjali Foods Ltd., a major player in the edible oil industry, announced its acquisition of Baba Ramdev-led Patanjali Ayurveda's home and personal care business for ₹1,100 crore. This move is part of Patanjali Foods' strategy to establish itself as a leading FMCG company. Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. (PAL) is one of the promoters of Patanjali Foods, and the acquisition is considered a related party transaction, conducted at fair value and on an arm's length basis. In a regulatory filing, Patanjali Foods detailed that its board has approved the acquisition of PAL's entire non-food business. This includes the hair care, skin care, dental care, and home care sectors, along with all associated movable and immovable assets, contracts, licenses, records, employees, and certain liabilities, through a slump sale arrangement on a going concern basis. This acquisition is subject to approvals from shareholders, lenders, and the Competition Commission of India. The consideration for this acquisition is ₹1,100 crore, payable in five tranches. Patanjali Foods' CEO, Sanjeev Asthana, mentioned that the company would finance this deal through its internal cash reserves. The acquisition is expected to be finalised in the current quarter. Mr. Asthana also highlighted that the company will acquire major brands like Dant Kanti and Kesh Kanti, which will significantly boost Patanjali Foods' revenue and net profit. The turnover of the acquired business was around ₹2,800 crore in the last fiscal year. This deal marks a significant step in accelerating Patanjali Foods' transition into a leading FMCG company. The home and personal care business of Patanjali Ayurved has strong brand equity in India's FMCG market and enjoys a loyal consumer base. Currently, it caters to four key segments: dental care, skin care, home care, and hair care. The acquisition will lead to a consolidation of the 'Patanjali' brand FMCG product portfolio and is expected to bring key synergies in terms of brand equity, product innovations, cost optimisation, infrastructure and operational efficiencies, and market share enhancement. Patanjali Foods and Patanjali Ayurved have also agreed to a licensing arrangement that allows the former to use trademarks and associated intellectual property rights owned by the latter. This agreement includes a 3% turnover-based fee and other conditions. Following the board's approval, Patanjali Foods will take the necessary steps to execute the definitive agreements and apply for the required approvals to complete the transaction. Patanjali Foods, formerly known as Ruchi Soya, reported a total revenue of ₹31,961.62 crore in the last fiscal year, slightly up from ₹31,821.45 crore in the preceding year. This acquisition is poised to enhance the company's market position and drive its growth in the FMCG sector.

🚨 Exclusive: Slay Coffee, one of the oldest coffee D2C brands is struggling Slay Coffee, an early entrant in the D2C coffee space in India, is downscaling its cloud-kitchen operations with a three-month timeline to completely ditch this model. The Bengaluru-based brand, founded in 2015 and majority-owned by cloud-kitchen leader Rebel Foods, will shift from the format of delivering online coffee orders to a retail business involving cafés. Slay is trying to revive its business with new strategies. Kweichow Moutai's current profitability of $12.5 billion dwarfs the combined profitability of Indian alco-bev companies, which stands at a mere $0.5 billion. This disparity underscores the immense growth potential within the Indian market. India is the world’s third-largest alco-bev market by volume, trailing only China and the United States. The market is projected to grow from ₹1,70,000 crore in FY15 to ₹5,00,000 crore by FY28. However, per capita consumption, particularly of beer, remains significantly lower than global standards, suggesting vast room for expansion. Structural and policy changes at the state levelthis growth trajectory are supporting. For instance, Uttar Pradesh's 2018 liquor policy disrupted monopolistic distribution practices, spurring sales for organised players and boosting state excise revenues. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh's focus on providing quality alcohol at reasonable prices sets benchmarks for other states, signalling a shift toward a more organised and growth-friendly framework. A key driver of growth in the Indian alco-bev industry is premiumisation—the shift towards higher-quality and higher-priced alcohol. Companies like United Spirits and Radico Khaitan have significantly increased the share of premium products in their portfolios. Additionally, Indian single malts are gaining popularity, surpassing imported single malts in consumer preference. Impact Of The Heat Wave On Beverage Sales As the summer heat wave swept across India, people sought out ways to keep cool and hydrated. This was reflected in the sales of beverages which showed a YoY growth of 37%. Let's take a closer look at the sales of beverages in the winter months versus the summer months. During the summer months, the average monthly sales of cold beverages increased to 1.66 times compared to the winter months. However, the impact of weather on beverage sales varied across states. The northern states, including Rajasthan, UP, and Punjab saw the largest jump in sales. Rajasthan experienced the highest rise with 3.1 times the sales in the summer months compared to the winter sales. Customers have made a definitive switch to cool drinks, with milk additive product sales dropping and products like lassi and buttermilk increasing up to 2.7 times. Syrups and concentrates also grew to 3.1 times compared to winter sales. Additionally, glucose powder and tablets have seen a seasonal jump with sales increasing to 5.5 times in the summer months. Interestingly, family packs of beverages (2L+) saw the largest jump with the average monthly sales increasing to 2.4 times YoY. Delhi and Punjab's summer sales of family packs recorded the biggest change with an increase to 3.4 and 4 times respectively for these regions. Family packs were also seen to be part of the "stock-up" shopping missions where the sales grew 37% in the large baskets (where shoppers had >10 products). As the summer heat continues, it's no surprise that the demand for cold beverages is soaring. Stay cool and hydrated!
