How to calculate it? ▶ Divide your total cost by the total number of video views CPV varies category to category- ▶ Serious categories like personal finance, news and infotainment usually charges a higher cpv from 0.5 to 1 depending on the avg viewership and popularity of the channel ▶ Whereas entertainment, comedy and other non-serious categories mostly depend on the face-value to determine cpv In my experience, the lower cpv channels have been fact channels, animation channels, mythology story channels.

Oligopolies - Are they good for Consumers? Consumer World is increasingly becoming controlled by oligopolies. Indian Consumer market is a clear witness to this trend with few chaebols controlling a majority in every business category (Retail, Telecom, Internet Cos, Airlines). How does this trend augur for a common Consumer? Let’s explore the negative aspects of Oligopolistic system: 1.Pricing Power – If you are fly to any domestic destinations, try a simple search on travel aggregators. You will be surprised to see the close match in prices between two dominant airlines (Indigo & Tata). They technically control the market prices defeating the market dynamics of demand & supply. Jio & Airtel will dictate your telecom rates. A consumer loses here! 2.No Product Innovation – Pepsi & Coke are the clear oligopolies in carbonated beverages. For sheer ease of mass production & lean SKU management, these brands do not innovate much often. Redbull success triggered off Sting/ Charged by forced imitation & not an innovation. A consumer loses here! 3.Supply Chain Muscle – If a retail store chain with 1000+ outlet (Reliance Retail, Tata Trent) negotiating with a small manufacturer in backend, chain will have total dominance. A supplier will be forced to comply with unimaginable norms including delayed payments, stretched production targets etc., When Swiggy/ Zomato raises commission on its partner restaurants, they will have to budge. Eventually, Consumer will pay all these increased levies. A Consumer loses here! 4.Sub-Standard Service – When you walk into a flight & you are not greeted with a smile, you have just witnessed oligopoly. When you struggle to book a cab on an app, you have faced an oligopoly. When you have wait in long queues for the most expensive popcorns in a theatre, you have experienced oligopolies. Not that they do with intention, but consumer will have no other go & hence few mishaps are just ignored. A Consumer loses here! 5.Smackdown of SMEs – Nilgiris was a flourishing grocery store chain in Tamilnadu which got acquired by FutureBazaar which got taken over by Reliance retail (Former 2 entities exists no more). Consolidation power of these Goliaths often crush the regional, local, small player competitions. Many upcoming D2C brands are being taken over by FMCG conglomerates & eventually there shall be oligopoly in those categories. A consumer loses here! To conclude, this market scenario is not going to change & it shall only get expedited. With massively loaded up money chest (public monies thru stock listing or cheaper bank credits), these Goliaths can gobble up many Davids leaving the consumers in lurch. As long as the dominant players in oligopoly fight for the pole position, a consumer gets to gain from offers/ discounts, new products etc., Once that consolidation phase is over, a consumer is definitely set to lose from Oligopolies. Gurugram-based martech network Wondrlab India has acquired OPA, an influencer marketing platform, for an undisclosed amount.
