Swiggy used RAG to build its in-house Text-to-SQL -- allowing all employees to make data-driven decisions faster. 📈 Here’s how they built the system end-to-end: Suppose a user types a question in Slack, like "What's the average delivery time in Delhi last week?" The query passes through AWS Lambda, where a function cleans and formats it before sending it to the LLM. The model then checks the Knowledge Base for metadata related to “delivery time”, which includes tables and columns relevant to delivery data. It identifies “average delivery time” as the metric and retrieves relevant historical SQL examples. Using Swiggy-specific metadata, it selects tables like Orders and columns like delivery_time. The model also uses few-shot learning by adding reference queries from similar past requests to guide the SQL generation. Finally the generated SQL query is run on Snowflake, and gets adjusted if errors occur. The final query output is sent back to the user on Slack. Users can rate accuracy, helping refine the model. 🚀 Swiggy IPO is providing 30X type of return to many VCs. And media is going gaga over it. A 30X return in 9-10 years is 40-45% IRR which is very impressive. Now look at it another way ----If I set up a VC fund with an expectation of 25% IRR over a 10-year fund, then the final value needs to be 9-10X for the entire fund. And I will not invest more than 10% in one deal typically. Let’s look at numbers: 1️⃣ Total fund size - 100 rupees 2️⃣ Required final value @25% IRR - 930 rupees 3️⃣ Swiggy - 10% or 10 rupees 4️⃣ Swiggy exit value - 300 rupees 💰 I still need the balance 90% or 90 rupees to deliver 630 rupees. This is not easy at all. Knowing most of the investments in startups will fail, I still need 2 more Swiggy's in the portfolio to be an average performer. 📊 On top of that, there are several small-cap mutual funds that are giving 25% return over several years. “My worst technical interview experience” . While trying to switch, I interviewed at Coinbase for the role of SDE 2. Now, let me clarify, the issue wasn’t with Coinbase—it was my incorrect expectations and irrelevant preparation. I assumed it would be a standard DSA round, but it was a Q coding round. I didn’t clarify with the recruiter and wasted time optimizing a straightforward problem. The real test was applying OOP concepts and refactoring. 🔹 Why was this so bad → I could have done well if I had understood the interview expectations and not been stuck in the "Leetcode mindset." 🔹 What I learned → Always clarify what concepts will be tested in the interview and read about others' experiences to prepare. However, finding detailed interview experiences isn’t easy. Many are vague, and don’t cover the specific challenges you face. Zomato Quarterly Results are really insightful. Sales: 4,206 Cr Operating Profit: 177 Cr with OPM of 4% (doubled from last quarter)  & Net profit of 253Cr (125x from last year quarter) A very precious in-house company who went from almost bankruptcy stage to a profitable company. Though, need to see how much income is from actual Zomato vs Blinkit business. Also, expenses are still high, also P/E is not so good now but so nice to see the ups/downs of Zomato! Senior developers can stay connected to the codebase, provide productive hands-on experience, maintain updated technical skills, and remain highly productive even without coding regularly. However, over time, not writing code or delivering key features can lead to a sense of moral high ground because they are not involved in meeting strict customer deadlines. On a personal note, I get little to no time to write code, but I ensure to contribute to at least one project per quarter, just for the love of it. It is one of the few job profiles that allows individual contributors to operate at such top levels. Making the most of it. Regardless, interesting read.

ChatGPT can do what companies like Amazon and Walmart used to pay 60-70k to interns today. We are no longer in the COVID era, and the reality of placements is very different today. Here is the reality of DSA and Development in 2024 no influencer will talk about or tell you today: 1/ DSA vs Development: Stop Fighting, Do Both     - FAANG-type companies still test DSA, so make sure to prepare well.      - Startups care more about hands-on development skills. - They want you to contribute from the start; no one wants to train you from scratch.     - Balance both DSA and dev based on the job you aim for.  2/Remote Jobs   - Remote jobs are mostly for mid to senior-level engineers, not freshers.     - Freshers should work in an office first to build teamwork and communication skills.     - Remote jobs might look cool, but the reality is: that very few get them.  3/ Huge Salary Gap: 3 LPA vs 90 LPA     - Some engineers earn just 3-4 LPA, while others make 90 LPA with the same exp level.    - Layoffs have pushed some engineers to accept jobs with lower pay just to stay afloat.     - Don’t expect a 30-50% raise every time; it’s not always realistic.  4/ Startups Pay Big, But There’s a Catch     - Startups have to pay more to attract talent, but they come with risks like sudden shutdowns.     - If you’re leaving a comfy job for a startup, they’ll need to offer big bucks and equity to make it worth the risk.  5/ ChatGPT is Changing the Game     - Many tasks interns used to do can now be handled by tools like ChatGPT.     - Internships are now more about scouting future talent than doing critical work.  6/ Don’t Fall for Job Scams     - Research companies before joining. Some startups run on shaky promises and don’t pay on time.     - Avoid flashy “job guarantee” courses. They often have hidden conditions like “complete 90% of tasks” or you’re out.  7/ FAANG is Losing its Shine     - The FAANG dream isn’t what it used to be—more people prefer startups for the flexibility and better work-life balance.     - Getting into FAANG is super competitive, and not everyone will make it. It’s okay to start smaller.  8/ Balance Your Priorities     - Don’t spend all your time on DSA or dev—you need both.     - Tier-3 students especially need solid dev skills since big companies might not come to campus.  9/ Failure is Part of the Game     - It’s normal to mess up. Just learn fast and bounce back.     - Success isn’t guaranteed for anyone, no matter how much prep you do. Sometimes it’s just luck and timing.  Also, don’t blindly follow anyone. Few people join as a SDE-1 and within a span of ~7 years, they promote to a very senior level(L6 equivalent to Staff Role) in a company whereas same achievement is hard to realize when you're switching companies. So, what makes these employees so special? A few points: - They joined these companies as SDE-1 - Implemented projects end to end - very pro-active in all things: reviews/discussions/coding. - highly biased for taking actions (critical skillset for growth) - were lucky enough to some extent in getting good projects - were hard working enough to find optimizations & propose as new projects in the product - filled with lots of motivation & drive: showing true ownership at the deepest level one could possibly imagine Staying in a company helps you build context over the years, which the lateral hires within few months might or might not be able to grasp. This post is just a reminder: Switching would probably make money but staying in a company with a little bit of luck can do wonders(both money & role). PS: I did 2 switches in my career and I can relate with this post.

Here is what I did for all the problems. A: If X < Y, then we will take inbound train, start at station X and end at station Y, so station Z must be between X and Y. X<=Z<=Y must hold. If X >= Y, then we will take outbound train, start at station Y and end at station X, so station Z must be between X and Y. Y<=Z<=X must hold. B: We are given that S is subsequence of T, we should print all the index using which we can form S. Also, notice that indirectly guarantees that there will be a unique set of indexes. We can use greedy to find set of thoses indexses. This is exactly same problem B of previous codeforces round (namely round 943) C: Head of Pn is at height sum(Ai) + B_{pn} - A_{pn} So, we will have to find maximum value of B_{pn}-A_{pn), and print sum(Ai)+mx D: We can use sliding window technique here. For each i, we will maintain set of index where [i,i+k-1] exists. Then check difference of minimum and maximum value in the set. When we want to find new set for j=i+1, we erase position of p[i] and add p[j+k] E: Eaach clique gives us K*(K-1)/2 edges, and most of them are redundant, so we should ignore them. Its similar to build function for segment tree. CapEx spends go over 10% of a company’s revenue—largely for expansion, new business, and sustaining current operations. However, finding technically qualified vendors offering quality output, agreeable pricing, and timely delivery remains a laborious and testing process. 🚨Early Access To Exclusive Swiggy Report🚨 Swiggy is going for IPO at Rs 95,000 crore valuation - 8.5 times its trailing FY24 revenue. Rival Zomato has a market cap of Rs 218,257 crore - 18 times its trailing FY24 revenue. Swiggy is giving a 50% valuation multiple discount. Why ❓ Swiggy won the first leg of the race for food and quick deliveries between 2015 and 2021, but now Zomato holds the top position in both segments. I recently switched to from an SDE → SDE 2 Role ⭐ And here’s how the interview experience changed for me. This is for the working professionals who are Targeting for SDE 2 and SDE 3 Roles. 1️⃣ You’ll face more System Design questions. Expect to design scalable, high-performance systems and consider trade-offs, latency, fault tolerance, and scalability. 2️⃣Coding problems are more complex and open-ended.
