#politics #nobelprize India’s prime minister Narendra Modi is ready to form a government in a coalition with Telugu Desam party of Andhra Pradesh led by Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar of Bihar, both highly regarded former Chief Ministers of their states with significant accomplishments credited to them. Opposition minority led by Congress and a fractured set of many regional parties represented in parliament has been in the state it is because of the Machiavellian politics and corruption of India’s educated socialist elites since 1947, many of whom have found their way to the West currying favor with US Democrats, UK Labor Party, and European socialists. It is these Indian socialists who have benefited from Bill Clinton’s and British and European outsourcing boom in Information Technology (IT) services since 1993. As a part of this Machiavellian politics, Congress had rejected what India calls “special status” to states in the Union in need to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. It gave statehood as special status to Telangana which claimed the revenue rich capital Hyderabad, the city I grew up in after the partition of Andhra Pradesh, the state I was born in, all of it being a single state until 2014. I was in India when the Congress led by Sonia Gandhi fumbled the ball and lost the election amidst allegations of corruption in coal mining against the Manmohan Singh government, bringing Modi to power. Since 2014, the corruption has changed political parties from the Congress to Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), making Modi’s Gujarati merchant classes Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani very wealthy, with another 198 billionaires in tow, their assets not fully accounted for by the Government. India’s corruption, mostly bribery, pervades the rank and file of both the public and private sectors, always did, and is as much a way of life for all Indians as is Hinduism as a religion. The country is yet to learn how to be ‘legally corrupt’, an oxymoron, akin to corruption in the West by buying the law itself with money to stand up appearances of legitimacy and law abidance by interest groups. The West is also becoming brazen in its corruption now, similar to India, succumbing to law breaking bribery. So is most of the rest of the world. Naidu and Nitish Kumar may now get special status for their states from Modi which they did not get from Congress before 2014 to its own detriment to lend Modi their support in parliament. Both are sensible and have a decent track record of at least getting something done for their people. Modi’s coalition, unless the Congress plays spoil sport by creating parliamentary instability to return to power by 2029, in 5 years, could remain stable and get things done by moderating its extreme right wing politics since 2014. India’s salvation, however, as of rest of the world lays not in poverty and militarism for GDP competition but in global #sustainability.

I am reposting this article featuring Amish Shah who is one of the true pioneers in the LGD category. I quote some interesting statistics cited by Amish : Almost 65% of all new engagement rings in USA have a lab grown diamond center while the fashion category is now over 10% with diamond studs almost at 40% based on various data sheets. The growth has been expediential in the engagement category in the last 5 years from 6% to 65%, the fashion category will now see similar growth in the next 3 years. The consumer is driving these unit sales without any marketing push from the industry. I believe that the unit sales of the engagement diamond category in USA will mature around 80% in the next 3 years and fashion jewelry over the next 7 years growing to similar numbers too. Unquote Amish is bullish about LGD penetration. I think one issue we need to address is that there does not seem to be consistency in how market share data is being tracked. Yesterday I read an article by an insurance company that pegged LGD market share in bridal at only 18 percent. Tenoris pegs it at around high 40’s and Amish pegs the comparable number at 65%。 Hopefully, we can have more consistent market share data in the future.

When Dhruv Shah from FCB Kinnect first reached out to me for HDFC Bank's EOSS idea, I was stunned by the creativity of the idea, but I was equally concerned because we were being asked to create a deepfake of Nora, at the time when deepfakes were being look down upon! Once we were comforted that Nora is a partner in this (anti) crime, we then saw it as an opportunity for using our latest Generative AI models of Face Swapping and Voice Cloning, to raise awareness about the potential nefarious use cases of deepfakes, helping society build resilience and develop antibodies against such misuse- and I was like "Alright, let's do it!" Ankit K. and Rajat Kumar Kedia share an inspiring journey—one that began with a challenging IPO in 1994, evolved into building one of India's leading packaging giants, and culminated in the creation of a dynamic family office. The Kedia Family founded Manjushree Technopack Ltd in Guwahati in 1987, took the company public in 1994, just two years after the Harshad Mehta scam, when trust in capital markets was the lowest, and then delisted the company in 2015 to bring on private equity capital, resulting in a 45x increase in shareholder value. I’m certain that we interact with products that have been packaged by their company on a daily basis. It’s incredible how they were able to build one of the largest packaging companies in India that most would not have heard of. It was such a pleasure to have the Kedia Brothers on the latest episode of the Create Wealth podcast. Their wealth creation journey and insights are fascinating. The headlines becomes sensational as the details reflects different narratives. Categories A, B and C explains the finer details. Category A and B comprises 47% and 31% space which cumulatively accounts for 78% inventory having healthy occupancy. The ghost inventory is mostly in Tier 3 assets which is just 22%. It needs deeper insights to check and decide about such inventories which is ascribed as ghost inventory which is 40% or more unutilised assets. The Kolkata rape and murder case.... a crisis of leadership and a complete collapse of character building. It fills me with a great sense of indescribable shame and deep and pervasive pain and grief. What will we do with a 5 trillion$ economy, bullet trains, AI supported world order, landing on the mars ect... when young daughters are being butchered and raped and then burnt to erase any semblance of a clue that could perhaps reveal the truth partially. Many talk about a nexus motivated by party politics, big money, lust and carnal desires, sinister secrets ect. How do these explanations matter as these are repeated ad infinitum, year after year, decade after decade. The tragic events in Kolkata highlight a systemic failure, where leadership at multiple levels—familial, educational, and societal—has faltered. This is not just a call to action but a demand for accountability. It is a reminder that leadership is about more than policies and procedures; it is about shaping hearts and minds, ensuring that every person is equipped with the moral strength to navigate the complexities of life with integrity and compassion. I am embarrassed to say that we in corporate India lead marginalised professional lives. We are onlookers and at the most commentators. We must move centre stage.... this is not new it keeps happening..so many times may be reported becuase of ulterior motives...thousands go unreported...after nirbhaya now this...... we must find our voices, our courage to mobilise action.... and as they say ...' courage is the most beautiful colour of the mind'.
