Good Evening Friends, Hope everyone is having good weekend so far. Today I want to share a conversation which I had with my close friend running his own venture in Information Technology focusing on rolling out product/s to different clients. Conversation started like this, Hey Vijay, my organisation size is ~50 and we are doing pretty well and our customers are extremely happy with our product and soon we will have expansion upto 200+ people and would be expanding existing product capabilities and developing new products as well. My response was, that's incredible. He then asked me, I know you are also doing something in the product and transformation space. On the same lines do you think we need to change our ways of working? My response was if your customers are happy, product is showing the growth in terms of what you want and I know you are getting series funding from some angel investors so for getting more funding if you are asking this? He said yes and no both. I want to get funding and also grow in long term. I know that if size of organisation grows from 50 to 200, same things like collaboration or the way we quickly connect with each other may not work. I was very happy after hearing this and advised him that why you don't create virtual 2-3 orgs like you have now with 50+ folks setup. He liked the idea and was absolutely open to do that and today after 8 years of discussions we had, he has 250+ employees and 150+ clients and still able to run the show in the same manner like he was able to do with ~50 folks. Conclusion - you don't need to know anything to help folks rather an open, honest conversation fueled by common sense. We still can solve majority of the problems with this. Cheers, Vijay Morankar

The untimely demise of a bright young lady at EY is definitely a wake-up call for all such corporates, SMEs alike who are relentlessly trying to beat the competition and claim the glory of victory - year after year after year. My post is for all those people managers and the newbies who have taken their job a bit too seriously. Let's not glorify slogging unless it's your hubby and you really have got nothing else of significance to do. Well, in my view you have lost it already - anyways! Whenever I take up a new assignment the first thing I advise to my team is that your health is your top-most priority. If the work pressure, timings or anything in that matter (could be due to personal reasons too) that comes between you and your good-health - you don’t have to think twice. Just walk out - as simple as that. Believe me, the show will go on and no one will be harmed. Staying fit is your responsibility. Do not ever compromise on that. My dear young friends - detect the signs of a toxic workplace as early as possible. If it’s limited to your team alone (your manager) then play your card smartly and try to move to a friendlier team (the manager again) - if not, don’t be shy from reporting the same to HR or the higher management with evidence. To all those people managers - it’s just not worth it!! Just to satisfy your ego and climb up that corporate ladder - just not worth it.

When searching for a place on a travel portal it gives me reviews of those who stayed there;  it's features; merits and demerits; options to upgrade; how to get there; distance  from cool spots etc etc..... Now imagine a talent marketplace in an organisation using similar principles and giving you... Reviews based on previous job holders' experiences; merits and demerits; how to get there; how far it's  from the job now and the job next etc etc That's when a talent marketplace becomes a supermarket. Best Example of Feet-Licking Culture - Ministers being addressed as "Revered Saints and Spiritual Leaders" In the last few years, the industrial sector has witnessed unprecedented rise in the demand for conformity and foot-licking. This has resulted in many casualties and has shaken the confidence of the working population regarding the sustainability of work output. Despite the incessant attempt by the government to hide the truth, fissures are popping up everywhere. The Times of India carried a piece of news today with headlines that "Lower affordability hits demand for cars: Maruti." I have no doubt that if we continue down this path, an economic downturn is just around the corner. The question is why no one is talking about it. Again, quite unsurprisingly the answer lies in the rise of foot-licking culture. Let's take an example - how many cases of employee dissatisfaction have come to light in companies under Reliance or Adani umbrellas? Don't you feel it is statistically impossible not to have any grievance aired by any of their employees or newspapers never publishing any article on their work cultures? I have been inactive on LinkedIn for a while. But today something riled me up and I decided to come out of hibernation. I was struck by the sheer audacity (of insulting all Hindus) and by its shameless attempt at foot-licking. The image below is from an advertisement in the Times of India (Kolkata Edition, today) where some ministers were being addressed as "Revered Saints and Spiritual Leaders". I know this much - if some people can insult a large group of people through their frivolity and don't feel ashamed to lick feet of the ministers publicly then the government is actively promoting the culture of conformance and slave mindset in the multitude. WE MUST OPPOSE IT WITH ALL OUR MIGHTS

Dubious Causality!! In a twist of fate that incites incredulous belief systems, the 'now-famous' MBA tea-person, known more for bringing bad omens to teams, is unwittingly becoming the ultimate jinx master! The Chai-person has managed to jinx people / cricket teams faster than you can say "abracadabra." With a mere morphed snapshot and a caption of "I stand with South Africa," the Proteas should have seen the warning signs! And oh, the England team and supporters probably wished they had stayed back home sipping tea instead of seeing those morphed pictures of their players posing with him before the semi-finals. If people start taking his presence as seriously as a black cat crossing their path, we might witness a new era where performances take a back seat to avoiding seeing a morphed photo-op with the notorious bearer of sporting misfortune. There's a cautionary tale hidden within: we all know of so many folks who actually truly believe in such a patterns irrationally - leading to misplaced blame, reinforced incorrect beliefs, and ultimately making lives even more miserable in the pursuit of fleeting luck. Should one be rational in approach? Or Instead, should one be on the constant lookout for such patterns, or effect of "unseen forces" to determine outcomes? Should the solution lie in anchoring decision-making firmly in logic and correct data, rather than one rooted in superstition, coincidental patterns, and misattributed causality? #beliefs #causeandeffect #officepositivity

I have been trying the AI integrated with LinkedIn Premium in the last few days. Most of the prompts automatically suggested by it were quite interesting, and the responses provided by it also felt quite contextual and accurate, compared to ChatGPT plus that I had earlier tried and given up on. I had presumed that LI being owned by Microsoft would have used Microsoft Copilot, but there is no info on their pages as to which LLM is the underlying technology. What has been your experience?
