Good Evening Friends, Hope everyone is having good weekend so far. Today I want to share a conversation which I had with my close friend running his own venture in Information Technology focusing on rolling out product/s to different clients. Conversation started like this, Hey Vijay, my organisation size is ~50 and we are doing pretty well and our customers are extremely happy with our product and soon we will have expansion upto 200+ people and would be expanding existing product capabilities and developing new products as well. My response was, that's incredible. He then asked me, I know you are also doing something in the product and transformation space. On the same lines do you think we need to change our ways of working? My response was if your customers are happy, product is showing the growth in terms of what you want and I know you are getting series funding from some angel investors so for getting more funding if you are asking this? He said yes and no both. I want to get funding and also grow in long term. I know that if size of organisation grows from 50 to 200, same things like collaboration or the way we quickly connect with each other may not work. I was very happy after hearing this and advised him that why you don't create virtual 2-3 orgs like you have now with 50+ folks setup. He liked the idea and was absolutely open to do that and today after 8 years of discussions we had, he has 250+ employees and 150+ clients and still able to run the show in the same manner like he was able to do with ~50 folks. Conclusion - you don't need to know anything to help folks rather an open, honest conversation fueled by common sense. We still can solve majority of the problems with this. Cheers, Vijay Morankar

Hey, tech enthusiasts! 🚀 Thinking of spicing up your conference booth game? Instead of the usual swag items, how about treating attendees to some yummy locally made goodies like chocolate-covered Oreos? Aimee, Bobby, and Mark from Byte Software wowed the crowd at the recent TMC event with this sweet touch! 🍪 When it comes to technology discussions, it's fascinating to look back at perspectives from 50 years ago. Some argue that the iPhone was a game-changer that revolutionized the tech industry overnight, and even after nearly two decades, no other innovation has quite matched its impact. 📱💥 At conferences like TMC, vendor news often takes center stage, especially in the capital markets arena where technology plays a vital role. Capital markets staff are key players in driving tech adoption, refining loan profitability strategies, and strengthening product offerings for overall company success. 💼💻 The vibe at the TMC enclave is all about secondary marketing pros bonding over industry insights and exchanging ideas. While predictions may not be their forte, they excel at offering valuable information, guiding decision-makers on maximizing profitability, managing risk factors, and enhancing performance metrics. 🔍💰 Exciting news for servicers! This week's podcasts, sponsored by Stavvy, feature a deep dive into loss mitigation solutions and regulatory updates to enhance the customer experience. The upcoming Extreme Climate, Housing, and Finance Leadership Summit in Washington, DC promises to spark critical discussions on the future of the industry with experts like Toni Moss from AmeriCatalyst leading the way. 🎙️🏠 Empower your booth presence with a touch of local flair, engage in thought-provoking tech dialogues, and stay ahead in the dynamic world of capital markets – the future is bright with endless possibilities! ✨ #TechInnovation #CapitalMarkets #ConferenceEngagement

The reality of building an amazing company is, it's F'ing hard. Last week at SXSW was amazing, but the one thing no one was talking about was the sheer hustle and effort it takes for each Founder and Leader to attend this conference. I saw founders go from; ➡ Networking events to bug fixing ➡ Workshop sessions to client calls ➡ Presenting on stages to investor meetings ➡ Meets ups and pancakes to sprinting across town for customers On Wednesday, as I jumped from 7am morning networking yoga (lush, I know) to cold call and deal reviews back to a lunch session and across town to interview reps and then late-night networking, I couldn't lose this ongoing thought. A thought I saw validated at; ▪ Pre SM demo day drinks meeting some amazing tech stars Founders ▪The tech innovation hub area ▪ Listening to personal favourites Jason and Jodie in the 'It takes a village' session ▪Post SM demo day drinks debriefing with mentors, investors and founders ▪ Thursday at FKS pancakes and the brilliant growth session led by Bryan interviewing Paz, David and John ▪Thursday night networking But, we make it work to; ▪Meet 10's of people IRL for the first time ▪Find new team members, partners, investors or co-founders ▪Have breakthrough conversations that change how we see the world, our own business or ourselves Reflecting on the week, this is a reminder this is what it's meant to feel like as you build something amazing. Your to-do list will be stacked. Your competing priorities all seem no.1. Your follow-ups are going to seem endless. And, that's okay. I look at each of these conferences as an operating system update, and I write this after putting myself to sleep and rebooting with inspiration and energy ready to attack this last few months of the year. Shoutout to the amazing Sarah Ju-En Tan for this augmented reality map of SXSW 🔥 Trying something a little different with the continued gaming vibe, a follow-on from our Sim's template ;) p.s. I wasn't allowed to use all 120 selfies or tag everyone I hungout with at the conference in this edit, so there will be more to come 😂 If we caught a moment or pic together, I'd love to see it and hear about it!

Do you know how I know that the senior living industry is changing? Because we are changing it. Change efforts are not about magnitude or speed or getting permission. Someone simply needs to GET STARTED. The nearly 50 people who are attending Think Tank 2024 in Austin this December are part of that effort. You don’t have to be here with us to be part of that change. There’s no need for FOMO, because you can and should create your own waves. ➡️ Start your own event ➡️ Launch your podcast ➡️ Start sharing video content ➡️ Post more on LinkedIn ➡️ Invite 4 people to meet up somewhere ➡️ Offer that paid class ➡️ Launch your business Who cares if others have done it? Who cares if others or you have failed before? Who cares that you’ll start with 10 listeners and 5 engagements on a post? GET STARTED. If you are at a senior living conference, ditch the large after party for once, and have dinner with ONE person you really want to connect with. You’ll throw away those 30 business cards that you would’ve collected. But some of my BEST investments of time was sitting with one person and REALLY connecting. Think Tank isn’t about getting everyone here to THIS event. It’s largely about demonstrating to you that anyone can make a difference if you move past wishing for change and just GET STARTED. My first Think Tank effort was in 2021, and we had maybe 15 people there. I LOVED it. Then 23 the next year. Then 30 the year after. Now with a great business partner, Nicole Will + 50 attendees this December + an international study abroad trip to Amsterdam + sponsors. Who knows where we’ll grow from here. There’s always someone at the party who has to be the first to dance. They’re RARELY the best dancers. They are the ones who don’t mind that they could look foolish or desperate or nerdy or whatever judgement that onlookers will mutter under their breath while they’re tapping their toes. 🔥 YOU are the one on the dance floor. So get started. Dance. #thinktank2024 #seniorliving #changeagents

What conversations have inspired you this week? I started the week with a chat about tech trends and the future of automation with Carl Stacey from Azets. It's incredible how rapidly technology is evolving and opening up new possibilities. I'm sure an introduction to one of my previous clients will prove fruitful. Next, I had an insightful conversation with Richard Peters over a cob and a pint about personal development, which is always close to my heart. We explored some great ideas on mindset and growth—with a simple shift in thinking making all the difference (as we forgot a photo AI has helped 🤔). I also had the pleasure of discussing international business and the journey of writing with Steve Parker. My connections always bring new perspectives and spark fresh ideas. Mid-week, I connected with Gill Heppell, CEO of PerCurra Ltd and fellow coaches Paul Wreaves and Kimberley Lawler to discuss the opportunities to support and challenge our franchisees. Collaboration was a recurring theme this week, especially in my chat with Mark Billage, where we explored how partnerships can elevate our work and significantly impact our clients. One of the week's highlights was sitting down with Kevin Appleby and Graham Arrowsmith on The Next 100 Days Podcast to discuss my new book, business opportunities, and AI. I was thrilled to share some of the insights from the book with listeners, and if anyone’s interested in an exclusive signed copy, I’ll drop the link in the comments! 📘 I'm ending the week on a high note with a coffee catch-up with Matt Dudley of Higgs LLP—nothing beats a great conversation over coffee while enjoying the brisk autumn air. What insights have made an impact on you recently? Have a brilliant weekend! 👋I'm Dave 🔥Igniting curiosity to help you build a better business #thebusinessexplorer 👈 Follow this hashtag to see more of my content #fridayflashback #success #business #strategy #curiosity

Some thoughts on SXSW 2024... #1. #SXSW is still my favorite place to get a little bit of everything. It's a great place to learn. To be inspired. To talk with investors. To talk with experienced professionals. To sell. To meet with customers. To watch interesting films. To talk with interesting filmmakers. To meet new people. To recharge. To eat great food. To see new technology. To talk with cool companies. To discover new ways of thinking. #2. In my view, if SXSW can be used to forecast the economy, I'm less hopeful than I was going in. There didn't appear to be as many (cool) "houses" this year. Advertising seemed down. I won't say attendance was down, but it felt like there was more going on than there were people to do it. All of the big media brands that had a major presence pre-pandemic, e.g., #YouTube, #Google, #Netflix, #Hulu, HBO/Max, Prime, Twitter/X, and so many online publishers, had next to no presence. Thus, the media retraction and tech cost-cutting were in full effect. #3. While there were still many good panels to see, there weren't as many as in past years. Typically, I have way more panels I want to see than technically possible, but this year, that was hardly the case. Everything was either too beginner, too broad, or too self-promotional. So many people selling books, promoting podcasts, touting personal achievements, or hawking product. Not enough panels discussing real trends, sharing practical advice, diving deep into subject matters, or breaking down current affairs. The built-in lunch break, while helpful for scheduling, didn't allow for enough good panels to break through. #4. This is the case every year, but I think the SXSW-sponsored events can be a lot better. For example, the Film Opening party was and is always disastrous. Be more targeted. Do fewer parties. Make them better. #5. SXSW has to fix the lines for movies. I was waiting in line to see #OmniLoop with Ayo Edebiri, and while I thought I was there too late to make it in, the app, with its green indicator, suggested I had a great chance of getting in, and the volunteers working the line led me to believe I was good. Ultimately, I, and at least 100 people after me, weren't even close to making it, and I ended up standing in line for 45 minutes when they easily could've informed me I had no shot. Just hand out passes to people as soon as they get there and scan everyone's badges right away, so that the app accurately reflects the chances of getting in, and we know whether or not we have a realistic chance of seeing the movie. I have no problem if you have to stand in line for 5 hours—standing in line, as much as I hate it, is part of the film festival experience at SXSW, and I've met a lot of cool people just standing in line. But if it takes 5 hours to see a film, and I get there only 3 hours before, just let me know, so I can go stand in line for another film!

So much value lies ahead with #clubchiefX . Join #clubchiefX to be part of this in-person salon where we talk about 2 hot topics but it will be unlike what you have heard before. I am anticipating a hot debate and coverage of how hashtag #genAI is really taking shape in organisations by the practitioners, by the users, by the builders of our first panel - Annie Ong from ST Engineering | Shayan Hazir from HSBC | Ned Lowe and Vincent Teyssier - and real observations of how leaders are rising to the occasion and its impact on future organisation design and the possibilities that don't need to wait any longer. Deeply grateful to Tian Chong Ng of Singtel, Mui Hoon POH, FSID FSCS and Caroline Berube for taking precious time from their schedule to share their experiences on international boards and listed co boards. As with many of my events, "what's shared in the room stays in the room" so it provides a safe space for most authentic sharing. The breakouts in between the 2 panels allow for deeper connections and insights exchange. My favourite is always at the end when we have open talk and it always blows my mind to tap on so many experts in the room. Our members are in for a real treat because we have already lined up the entire calender for Q1 2025 as well. Even if you can't make it for this event, I encourage you to sign up at clubchiefX.com before end 2024 for a preferred rate. #networking #leadership #personalgrowth #AI #boardmember --------------- Follow and share chiefX Asia to keep track of what we do. Members get access to 40 podcasts a year, 10 online fireside chats, 3 salon in-person events, 5 bi-monthly happy hours, join circles of interest, book sounding boards - all for less than a $ a day in a year.
