Over the past decade, I have reviewed over 1,000 cv's in search for the best team members to join our team. I see a lot of people in Israel in need of jobs these days so sharing some tips from my experience as a manager and Organizational Psychologist that I hope can be helpful. If you have any questions or additional insights, please feel free to comment below or pm me. I divided the job-seeking journey into 4 stages: 1. Self-reflection 2. CV building 3. Networking 4. “Dating” your future boss In this post I will cover some pointers for the first 3 stages. Next post will cover pointers for the last stage. *Self-reflection* 1. Self-reflection and understanding what you are good at and what you are passionate about. 2. Who are you - Need to be able to answer this in 2-3 lines at the top of the CV. Are you a manager and looking to be in a leadership role or more of a hands-on executive? Is your focus marketing/sales/coding/project management? Pro tip: Ask your friends to be honest with you and share the value they see you bring. It will crystalize your own view as well. *CV and LinkedIn profile* 1. CV building - how does your future boss know you are great at what you do? What success and impact did you have that you can articulate with numbers? 2. The design is great. But the most important is the content. Make sure clear description in the header what you do and keep it short, with bullet points and a 1-pager. Make sure no mistakes. If there is even 1 typo, it is a no-go. 3. Passion talks. Years ago I hired a young man with very little experience because he came with great passion and told me how he taught himself code at age 11. See how you can find that story that highlights your greatness. *Networking* 1. Networking and asking friends for an intro or to put in a good word. Identify 10 people you will have coffee with to brainstorm your career. Some will give you great advice. Others will give you a good lead. 2. Don't only think about networking with those who can give you the job today but rather with those who know people that can help you. 3. The best way to build trust is to show your work in action. I once hired someone because he reached out and explained to me in a loom video why one of my client websites stinked and how that can be fixed. He didn't tell me what he does but showed me. What tips have you found as a manager that you would give future employees?

ITC, one of the prominent coding schools in Israel, shut down today after decades of working and graduating thousands of people who got successfully employed in high tech. This event has sparked a question in my mind - Are programmers not needed anymore? With the rise of no-code applications and AI frameworks, it seems like 90% of tasks can be outsourced to AI already. The high tech industry is changing rapidly, and this event might be a sign of what's about to come on a large scale. As a programmer, it's natural to feel worried about the future. However, the truth is, AI is not here to replace us; it's here to assist us. Some time ago, I made an animation about AI saving jobs for programmers. Today, it's more relevant than ever. As the industry evolves, so should we. It's time to upskill ourselves, to learn new technologies, and to embrace the future. The amazing Barak Danin is always sharing past lectures from conferences just before the next ones are coming. This is how I got in my mail this absolute gem of a lecture - how to design medical interfaces to add trust by the users. Adi Simon shares amazing examples of how to reorganize the data on your interface to build the trust the medical practitioners need in order to actually utilized the product. The Israeli Tech Review for Q2 is out, demonstrating resilience of the Tech eco-systems, entrepreneurs & startups (i.e. Unicamels). Few Insights: - Investments in Israeli startups continue to increase demonstrating a 19% growth compared to H2/2023. - Total of $3.036B were raised by startups in 114 rounds. - Early stage investments of Q2 compared to Q1 are stable, there is an increase compared to H1/2023. - Leading sectors in terms of $ raised are cyber (66%), IoT (14%), Fintech (11%), Automotive & FoodTech. - Exits in H1 amount to $8.283B in 53 deals (mostly M&As & Buyouts). - H1/2024 Exits amount is higher then H1/2023 and H2/2024. What I am missing: - More active Israeli investors!, currently foreign investors are more active the Israeli ones. - New sectors maturity as future building blocks for the future, such as AI, FoodTech, AgTech, Climatech, BioTech, HealthTech and many others. Israel=Me I've had an incredible career as an Israeli tech and real-estate entrepreneur working for many years at Microsoft, board member at Azrieli Group, and building, exiting and IPOing AI and Internet companies. But the most fulfilling role of my life (besides being a dad of three gorgeous girls, and a husband to my adorable wife Liat❤️) is advocating for Israel, my beloved country🇮🇱 As I traveled over 50 countries in my lifetime, with only an Israeli passport at hand, met 1,000's of people who made my 15,000 LinkdIn community, having numerous global connections and business interactions, the one thing I love and totally passionate about is being an advocate of Israel and Jewish tradition. I nowdays find myself and my social network team, spend about an hour every day trying to block and track down anti-Israelis, who constantly add endless defiant comments to my posts, and report my posts to LinkedIn for being too pro-Israel. I estimate that I've already blocked over 7,000 such LinkedIn members, who commented and looked at my profile. Despite the fact that I got suspended multiple times on the incredible LinkdIn platform, I plan to continue sharing my views and values as an Israel patriot, and not backing down to professional networks terrorists and radical Islamists suppoertes. I get 1,000's of personal comments and feedbacks from colleagues and friends globally, who share with me how they are able to stay up-to-date with the events in Israel, and Jewish people from all over the world who are drawing strength from hearing the direct Israeli prespective, rather then through the bias media. I'm also overwhelmed with the business offers I get from all over the globe to do business with Israel. Watch out for a new partnership talking place with Saudi Arebia 😉 Once people apprach me, they feel like they know me well already. Strange. What you are seeing is a mistake. It must be. Adobe is a great company, but even the great ones make mistakes. I was trying out Adobe Podcast to enhance the audio quality of my podcast. - The Engagement Lab, with Yahav Levy as my co-host (it is in Hebrew). The freemium allows up to 30-minute-long audio files; my episode was 40 minutes long. So what do I do? Upgrade. This is an excellent example of how setting your freemium/premium threshold can encourage upgrades. Anyhow, I click the upgrade and get the attached "give me your money" paywall. That's fine. That's what I expected... in a way. I was expecting access to Adobe Podcast, not Adobe Express. You know what, that's fine. Maybe Adobe Express is the better deal for me. But, What is it? In what way is it better for me? I'm a podcaster, not a designer... So, excuse me if I don't know what Adobe Express is! And even with all that empty space on the paywall, Adobe didn't find it necessary to mention it. And that's the mistake. Now what? Should I go off-tab to search for an explanation of what Adobe Express is? See if it's worth my buck. Or should I search for an alternative? Adobe Podcasters are not your usual customers. They may not know what Adobe Express is. A Podcaster subscription is a better fit for them, but if that's not doable... Could you tell them what they'll get for the Express subscription? Now, you don't need me to tell you that. I just wanted to bring your attention to this. But also use this opportunity as a lesson for those just starting their startup. A paywall is not a technical thing. It should be the beginning of a relationship. It's almost like a first date. Could you make it feel special?

Google's BIGGEST acquisition: Israeli cybersecurity company Wiz. Despite recent doubts, Israel's tech scene is thriving. VCs and big tech see this too. Remember when Intel announced its $25 BILLION chip factory in Israel in late December 2023? It's clear—Israel is still a hotbed for innovation and talent. Here are the stunning reported facts: - Wiz boasts about $500 million in ARR, making this deal’s multiples mind-blowing. - It reached $100m in revenues ONLY 18 months after launch. - Just two months ago, they raised $1 billion at a $12 billion valuation. This deal is a massive win for the global tech ecosystem. It injects much-needed liquidity (a great point made by Harry Stebbings) and boosts Israel's tech landscape during a difficult time for the country. The skeptics can step aside. According to a new report co-produced by Google Israel and RISE Israel (formerly SNPI), there are more than 2,300 AI startups active in Israel today. That number accounts for roughly one quarter of all the technology companies in the country. It is well known that Israel has the highest number of startups per capita in the world, but we must continue to capitalize on the AI moment if we want to hold onto the technology crown. In fact, the report notes that AI startups in Israel are not launching at the pace of previous startup eras. At our Google Cloud Summit Tel Aviv last week, we saw a lot of excitement and innovation around AI. With that in mind, I authored a Google Cloud blog highlighting 5 of Google Cloud Israel’s top AI customers here in Israel that show that Israel is still a leader in new tech. These companies are leading in almost every sector of AI, including healthtech, security, databases, and content creation. This post is dedicated to my non-Israeli friends. But everyone’s welcome to read it :)   I’m sitting down to write this post about 10 minutes before the Israeli Memorial Day transitions to our Independence Day. Every year this is a nearly unbearable transition, from deep sadness to pride and joy. We are taught, from a very young age (as early as 6 years old, as I learned this year through my son), that these two dates were set intentionally, so that us Israelis will always remember that our independence came, and keeps coming, at great cost. This year, I feel it’s even worse than unbearable. It’s simply impossible. I find myself uncapable of celebrating Independence Day. As a nation and a country, we’re still at war. As an individual (and far from being the only one feeling like this), I’m still mourning. I truly believe we should still find ways to be happy and participate in or even initiate whatever activities that serve that purpose. But highlighting the achievement of becoming an independent country, of forming a safe country for Jewish people.. Right now it just doesn’t feel like the right time to do that.     And here’s why I’m writing to you, non-Israelis. I want to tell you more about what I’m mourning. I hope this will help those of you who see Israel at a mostly negative light, better understand the complexity of our reality.   Personally, I fully acknowledge Israel shares the responsibility over the truly shitty life of the people of Gaza. Along with that, I’m mourning what Israelis must live through right now: The tragic loss of so many loved ones, so many of them in terrible ways that I don’t think I’ll ever dare expose myself to. The need to leave their homes, and uproot their families, their whole lives. The fear that we’ll never feel safe again, not in Israel, and not anywhere else. The feeling I often struggle with, that I might never fully recover from my personal Oct 7 experience. That I will never be my best self again because of it – not the best mother I want to be, not the best partner, not the best friend, not the best employee.   So back to the complexity – you see, almost all Israelis are like me. People who just want to feel safe, just want to provide their kids with everything they need, just want to be able to celebrate without thinking about all that is wrong in the world.   I’m proud to be Israeli, although I’ve never felt more challenged to say it out loud.
