Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. TL;DR: We had interns, they did great work, and I am super proud of them and thankful to Google and especially Alon Cohen, Moran Otorgust, Tehila Gourary, Shaked Tal, Netanel Persik, Yoav Yanovski who let me take part in this initiative, Not So short version: I am a big supporter of on-the-job-training. I believe our education system is fundamentally broken and the entire way we train people for both work and life needs to change.  When I heard from Shaked that this is a possibility, I started looking for what type of tasks in my domain they can take on. “What kind of skills do they have?” “Basic python”. “I can work with that”. Our highschool interns wrote api tests that verify api credentials for the integration lab. They also wrote selenium automation that does the same for UI credentials. They did meaningful work, and they got paid for it, much better than working the usual summer jobs highschoolers get. So yeah, We had to match the tasks to the programmers, We had to help them a bit with ramp-up, and working with juniors means spending more time supporting them. But now they are almost fully independent, picking up their own tasks, managing most of the development and testing themselves, Just goes to show you how quickly people can learn and become productive with the right motivation. This is useful work, and they were only here for a month, working 3 days a week. Imagine what we could’ve done if we had them for longer. I’m super proud of you Daria Dvoeglazova, Darina Grinkrug, Roman Tymoshchuk, Hadas Zelibanski, shlomit abaye, and feel a great satisfaction to have been a part of on-boarding you to the tech industry.

"𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬... 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞. 😎✨": 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐤𝐓𝐨𝐤, 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐚.  So, we somehow managed to be one of the top 12 teams out of 2,200 participants. Yep, you read that right—12 out of 2,200. Still can’t believe they let us in. We jumped into this hackathon with big dreams and lots of coffee. After a month of intense brainstorming, surviving on snacks, and figuring out bugs that popped up at 2 a.m., we finally got to show off our project on TikTok’s amazing platform. Spoiler alert: We didn’t win. But honestly, who needs a trophy when we’ve got all these epic lessons, right? The experience was worth every second of sleep deprivation. We came out not only as tech warriors but also as masters of teamwork (and last-minute panic). The obstacles we faced turned into lessons that’ll stick with us for a long time. Huge shoutout to my team for crushing it—despite the occasional meltdown. You guys were awesome to work with! This hackathon definitely ranks up there as one of the best. Harshith Deshalli Ravi, Pallavi Savant, Suhas Palani, Nishchal G R—y’all are legends. And to our mentors who somehow didn’t run away when we bombarded them with questions: Tushnik Goswami, Jake Anderson and #BRXai, we appreciate you! Israel is a giant playground if you can perceive it as such. One of my adventures in the corridors of Israeli academia (it’s a comedy. They all are) involved an esoteric investigation into a new class of numbers. There was a notion that there is a negative zero and a positive zero, and that it is somehow useful. I came in to the lab, understood what is required, and wrote the code that produces negative and positive zeros, and queries that perform statistical analysis on the outputs, etc, etc, etc. Negative zeros, positive zeros, perhaps useless in any case aside from slippage calculation in zero-ish trade thresholds. This is my new work uniform: Two weeks ago several of my coworkers were fired for calling for an end to Project Nimbus - a joint contract between Google and Amazon signed in 2021 which provides cloud services to the Israeli government and its military. This was the most recent of many attempts by workers to end the contract. Google should not be providing its services to ANY military. As a global company with billions of users, in nearly every country, making more money than many GDPs, it is an abuse of power and inhumane. Any technology can be used for benefit or detriment. A hammer can build a house and also bash a skull. I’m proud of the technology that Google has developed to facilitate early cancer detection, connect people during crisis and facilitate accessibility. Those same technologies will be used by militaries to kill. Google has a duty to be a responsible steward of its products. Aside from the moral issues, Google’s military contracts are a sign of competitive weakness. To enter this space should be a sign to investors that Google is desperate to maintain revenue growth. Google is a publicly traded company owned by the totality of its shareholders - not its leadership. Introducing Qwen2.5-32BHeb: A Fine-Tuned Language Model for Hebrew Street Language I'm excited to share my latest project: a fine-tuned language model called Qwen2.5-32BHeb, designed to understand and generate Hebrew street language. This model is based on the powerful davidfred/Qwen2.5-32B pre-trained model and has been further enhanced using advanced techniques like LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) and 4-bit quantization. Key Features: Trained on a diverse dataset, including processed Wikipedia articles and additional Hebrew street language datasets Utilizes LoRA with r=16, lora_alpha=32, and lora_dropout=0.05 for efficient fine-tuning Employs 4-bit quantization using BitsAndBytesConfig for reduced memory footprint Generates natural and contextually relevant responses in Hebrew street language The model was trained using state-of-the-art techniques, including: Batch size of 8 per device with gradient accumulation steps of 4 Learning rate of 1e-4 with a cosine learning rate scheduler and warmup AdamW optimizer and gradient clipping PyTorch 2.0 compilation for improved performance To use the model, simply load it using the Hugging Face Transformers library: python from transformers import AutoModelForCausalLM, AutoTokenizer model_name = "davidfred/Qwen2.5-32BHeb" model = AutoModelForCausalLM.from_pretrained(model_name) tokenizer = AutoTokenizer.from_pretrained(model_name) Then, provide a prompt in Hebrew street language, and the model will generate a relevant and natural-sounding response.
