Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. Salesforce Acquires an Israeli Data Management Provider ​​for $450 Million Zoomin, an Israeli startup that offers tools for processing unstructured data, was acquired by Salesforce. Zoomin developed a content delivery platform that makes it possible to process unstructured data to make it more accessible to AI models and systems. Among Zoomin’s customers there are Dell Technologies and Mastercard. Salesforce will integrate Zoomin’s technology to equip its AI-driven autonomous service chatbots with the capability to provide personalized answers to customers’ needs. - Salesforce was one of the initial investors in Zoomin, making a strategic investment in the company in 2018. - To date, Zoomin, founded in 2016 by Gal Oron, Joe Gelb and Hannan Saltzman, raised about $73 million in venture capital. 14 years ago I worked for a while with a local Salesforce partner, and had a chance to experience, first hand, the amazing growth and expansion of that ecosystem in Israel. Fast forward to the end of 2024. Salesforce has since captured a massive #CRM market share here, as it did everywhere. It's a powerful brand. It has local offices. It has a thriving ecosystem of partners & professionals providing services to the market. It also bulked itself up in acquired products, and became a heavily complex platform, requiring very skilled people to operate. In short, it became the enterprise business platform we all now know. Also it left the SMB segment, which fueled its initial growth - behind. Simply put, the Total Cost of Ownership of Salesforce has grown well beyond the ability of a rapidly expanding number of small and medium sized companies (many of these in our war-strained hitech sector) to continue and justify paying for it to the CFO. It's not just the license costs. In my opinion, it's about how the C-suite has come to perceive the time gap between investing in a CRM, and the value it delivers, measured as pipeline & revenue lift. As long as that gap was tolerable, CFOs and CEOs let their CROs and VPs of Sales and Customer Service call the shots. Many of them demanded, and received, the budgets necessary to implement, expand and operate Salesforce. But that gap is no longer acceptable. Short on funding, riding a tight runway, facing a tough business climate, CEOs and CFOs are doubling down on everything that travels the shortest path to revenue, and dropping almost everything else. CRM doesn't generate revenue directly. Rather it helps the organization better manage its #revenueoperations, which is, by definition, a scale challenge. But it’s not a survival mode necessity. It’s not a must have when both volume and velocity are down. HubSpot has a different approach, and I for one think it aligns better with small to medium business needs than Salesforce’s.  When you purchase any of the core HubSpot hubs for your revenue team, be it Marketing, Sales or Customer Support, you get their CRM baked in for the price. Which means the value of your investment shifts to the departmental use cases and their benefits, rather than the operational infrastructure.  That shift aligns better, IMO, with how the CFO sees things, especially in SMBs, even more so in a rough business climate such as ours.

Last week Bria was ranked #20 of the most promising startups in Israel, kudos to the team! It is a long journey to build a startup. At 8 years old, I fell in love with mathematics, and at that point, I knew that's what I'd get my PhD in. In building BRIA, we've been able to help businesses all over the world scale their content development process. And what gets me even more excited is that we've been able to partner with different creators to ensure that their creativity is respected, rewarded, and isn't pirated. We trained our own high quality foundation models and built the core tools of Generative AI so everyone can use it.
