I stumbled across an interview with LinkedIn editor in chief Daniel Roth from Feb this year. And it was a salutary reminder to get real clear on who you’re talking to here on LinkedIn. Dan’s talking to Jason Feifer from Entrepreneur magazine, and they touch on that perennial topic dear to the hearts of all LinkedIn users, how many people see our posts. Lots of us think the more people see our posts the better. That’s understandable. And it’s also bollocks. If we’re on LinkedIn for a clearly defined reason, be that to find a job, meet people with influence in our industry, or generate business leads, we need the right people to see our posts, not more people. And Dan agrees, saying LinkedIn takes a very different view on the value of reach. The company’s goal is to “connect the world’s professionals to economic opportunity,” but that doesn’t often mean reaching lots of people. Instead, they want to help users connect to people who can make a meaningful difference. Dan acknowledges some LinkedIn content creators want to reach large audiences, but LinkedIn sees that as a “small subset” of users. LinkedIn’s priority is building products that help the majority of its users – and those people benefit from targeted reach, not mass reach. There you have it my hotties. 🔍 **Context Causes Meaning to Emerge** 🌱 Continuing from my last post on the impact of contextualization in the workplace—particularly on the form-function problem and the thinking-expression relationship—today, I want to delve into a lesser-known but incredibly powerful category of context: **Perspective**. 💡 One’s perspective, though subjective, serves as a potent context comprising beliefs, opinions, mental products (concepts, imaginations), abstractions, and intent. While the subjectivity of this content might seem like a limitation when leveraged as a literary device—such as an analogy or metaphor—its power to bring forth meaning is nothing short of remarkable. 🙏 Allow me to share a personal testimony on **subjective perspective**. Despite being well-versed in the theory and practice of contextualization in the workplace, I found myself uncertain about the future direction of our business—particularly where to focus our efforts and to what extent. During prayer last week, I sought guidance from the Holy Spirit. Knowing Jesus as a personal God who is actively involved with those who trust Him, my expectations of His involvement often fall short of the reality of His responses. This time was no different.
