🚀 Project Spotlight: AWS S3 Cross-Region Replication and Cost Optimization 🚀 I have just completed an exciting project utilizing AWS S3 to enhance data availability and cost efficiency. Here's a quick overview of what I accomplished: 🔹 Cross-Region Replication: Set up replication between two S3 buckets—one in the Ireland region and another in Frankfurt. This ensures data redundancy across regions for improved disaster recovery. 🔹 Replication Configuration: Successfully replicated all existing objects from the Ireland bucket to the Frankfurt bucket. Configured automatic replication of any new objects uploaded to the Ireland bucket, ensuring seamless synchronization across regions. 🔹 Lifecycle Policy: Implemented a lifecycle policy to delete objects in the Frankfurt bucket after 30 days, optimizing storage costs while maintaining a copy for disaster recovery needs. 🔹 Bucket Encryption: Enabled encryption on both Ireland and Frankfurt buckets and their contents to secure data at rest, enhancing compliance and security measures. 💡 Technologies used: AWS S3, IAM, and AWS Management Console. Day 42 of #100daysofALXSE 📈 Progress Overview: - Time Spent: 3 hour 💡 What I Learned: My day yesterday was all about DevOps stuff. I learned about SSH and SSH KEYS. SSH is a networking protocol through which I (a user, programmer, sys admin, etc.) can securely connect with another computer (or server) over a network like the internet. To make this kind of connection happen, a user must generate a key (usually in pairs, both public and private) using the command 'ssh-keygen' on a UNIX-like OS like Ubuntu. I went through generating this key and eventually connected with my Alx Ubuntu server from my local computer. I encountered lots of errors along the way, however going back to the resources given and asking ChatGPT really helped me. Of course we have a robust application and Infrastructure in-place. The next bus stop is to expose an RPC port. Another confidence boost 😁💪🏾! Led and completed an integration of Expel on AWS services at my job with minimal help as of today. This project required some back and forth between Expel and other people who was involved in the project but we created an alternative way of completing the project and it worked(We were working on a way to a user account setup for them in Wiz). Documentation definitely helped aid in integrating it into AWS and can't stress enough about reading and following the docs(you'll hear that a lot if you're coming into your role). On Friday 15th November 2024, I obtained the HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate certification, which puts me on a pedestal of becoming a certified “HashiCorp #CloudEngineer”. This attainment is a testament of my firm commitments to the mastery of the utilisation of Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for resource and service provisioning including the automation and management of cloud infrastructure. Notably, the pursuit of this certification afforded me the opportunity to garner hands-on experiences (would share the summary of some real world projects developed using Terraform later) that further deepen my comprehension of Terraform’s core principles and applications: 🔹 Underpinning concepts of Terraform’s core functional workflows, Enterprise and HCP 🔹 Infrastructure management on multi-cloud platforms such as AWS & Azure 🔹 Building and optimizing the delivery of scalable, efficient and highly available cloud solutions 🔹 Implementation of best practices for version control systems, configuration management, collaboration, and security fundamentals relative to IaC. Dave Prowse’s HashiCorp Terraform Associate 003 Course on O Reilly was useful for my preparation and particularly my ongoing hands on experiences with Projects undertaken at Techbleat remain critical.

Thanks to: ✅ karpenter - Easily provsion a disposable nodepool or cilium nodes ✅ FluxCD & Helm Chart - My choice of GitOps Operator for platform components deployment ✅ Terraform - Manage config for helm chart value overrides injection ✅ EKS Pod Identity Addon - Easily do IRSA for cilium operator to manage ENI ✅ Cilium - Modern container networking with eBPF flavour with improved network performance and security. They gives me the flexibility to do all the things I have always wanted to do easily. Is part of my plan to experiment with Cilium in ENI mode with kube-proxy replacement. Cilium used as CNI plugin in ENI mode to manage AWS NodePools EN instead of the standard AWS VPC CNI deployment. And Cilium eBPF-based native routing for containers networking within the cluster instead of with "kube-proxy" in iptable mode. All the microservices pod networking in the cluster still works great after the migration. Great tools for the moment. I plan to experiment with Encapsulation mode(VXLAN) routing when I have some time and also look into some multi-cluster routing with cilium BGP routing. #cloudengineering #cloudcomputing #awscloud #networking #kubernetes #gitops #coding #programming

Distributed System is hard most especially If you have to maintain idempotent processing across n number of servers. Maintain NTP server/ chronyd across your servers with Lamport Clock logical timestamp for values version; your best bet to navigate around idempotent processing across distributed servers.
