The ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) was established in March, 1977, to serve as the umbrella organisation for the Professional Accountancy Organisations of the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) Member States. Our vision is to be globally recognised as the body that represents the accountancy profession in the ASEAN region. Our mission is to develop and promote the accountancy profession in the region in support of the socio-economic enhancement of the AFA member countries.

  • We are pleased to present the AFA Strategic Plan 2024-2027 Towards the Golden Jubilee: Advancing the Accountancy Profession in ASEAN (the "Plan"). Building on the successful implementation of the AFA Strategic Plan 2020-2023 and the establishment of our new Vision and Mission, the Plan serves as a roadmap to grow capable, innovative, and resilient PAOs of the #ASEAN Member States, develop a relevant and reputable accountancy profession in ASEAN, and build a strong and more sustainable AFA. The priorities and key activities are anchored in our Vision and Mission, highlighting the importance of continuing our effort to lead in the advancement of the accountancy profession in ASEAN through capacity building, collaboration, and collective voice. As highlighted by President Professor Dr. Doan Xuan Tien, the Plan reflects our collective aspirations for AFA and the continuous advancement of the accountancy profession in ASEAN, as we embark on a journey towards our 50th anniversary in 2027.   • The 139th AFA Council Meeting held in Davao on 23 November 2024 hosted by PICPA had strategic value to evaluate the implementation of 2024 action plan and put another milestone for 2025, which is the second year of AFA Strategic Plan 2024-2027. As professional accountants must evolve in the dynamic environment, AFA must also respond to contemporary issues of sustainability and attractiveness of the profession in collaboration with PAO members and global partners that some of them are also associate members. Besides formal agenda involving evaluation and planning, AFA Council Meeting also serves as platform for sharing and discussion. 139th AFA Council Meeting also welcomed Mr. Bruce Vivian Vivian, Head of Accountancy Education, IFAC who shared the latest updates of IFAC and revision of International Education Standards (IES) to respond the sustainability issues. 139th AFA Council Meeting also formalized the appointment of KICPAA as host of 140th AFA Council Meeting and VAA as host of 141st AFA Council, that will coincide with the AFA Presidential Handover. We conclude the 139th AFA Council Meeting with durian party.

  • Following the FGD on Sustainability Issues in ASEAN held on November 2024, CPA Australia and ASEAN Federation of Accountants are pleased to publish the 2024 ASEAN ESG FORUM Report that focussing on ESG Considerations for SMEs in ASEAN. The report highlights the key challenges and opportunities for ESG Adoption among SMEs in the region, as the rapid progress of IFRS S1 and S2 adoption in many Southeast Asia jurisdictions will surely bring significant impacts on the businesses. Based on the insights from a group of diverse panellists representing ASEAN Countries during the FGD, this report also points out the key resource to SMEs and its stakeholders to anticipate the evolving ESG environment.   • The half-day AFA-PICPA International Conference 2024 is organised as a celebration of the spirit of solidarity and collaboration among the stakeholders in the ASEAN accountancy profession. It aims to serve as a platform to highlight the latest developments impacting the profession and facilitate discussion on key issues relevant to ASEAN, in particular Sustainability Standards and Implementation issues. Taking the theme, “Sustainability & Professional Accountants: Updates and Implementations toward Governance, Culture, and Technology Transformation”, the conference was organized into two interesting sessions. Session 1 discussed Current Updates on Global Landscape of Sustainability Standards with the panelists Verity Chegar, ISSB Member IFRS Foundation, Bruce Vivian, Head of Accountancy Education, IFAC, and Wee Kwang K., Member Sustainability and Climate Change Committee Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA). Session 2 discussed Preparing for Sustainability Reporting: Actions toward Enabling Sustainability in ASEAN, this session presented by ACCA. This session hosted by Pulkit Abrol and as presented Dr. Ardan Adiperdana, President, Ikatan Akuntan Indonesia, Dr. Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak, CEO, Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Benjamin Villacorte, Chair, Sustainability Reporting Committe and Parter SGV & Co. As the conference managed to draw attention on what professional accountant should prepare for a successful sustainability reporting standards implementation, AFA will continue to address the topics of sustainability for its member through collaboration with global bodies like ISSB and IFAC, as well as associate members.   • AFA together with IFAC organize a Strategic Toolkit Workshop on 5 December 2024. In this workshop, AFA member is given an opportunity to explore PAO Strategic Planning Toolkit. This Strategic Toolkit is specially developed by PAO Development Action Group (PAODAG) that will systematically assist PAO to prepare robust plan that will bring impact for future success and resilience. A strategic plan supports a PAO’s activities and priorities: outlining where the organization is going and how it will get there.     On December 5, 2024, IFAC and the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) hosted a virtual #StrategicPlanning Workshop for PAOs in the region. The workshop brought together representatives from across AFA member bodies, showcasing collaborative efforts to enhance PAO capacity and resilience. The session featured distinguished speakers, including Sidharta Utama, IFAC Board Member, AFA Council Member, and member of the IAI National Council, who highlighted the importance of strategic planning, and Lee White, IFAC Chief Executive Officer, who discussed IFAC’s member value proposition. Participants explored the PAO Strategic Planning Toolkit, guided by Zarif Ludin FCPA, UK from IFAC PAODAG, followed by a detailed case study presentation by ONEC Algeria, led by Nawel Rabahi, sharing practical insights into successful strategic planning and implementation. Joselin Martin, CPA, CCIFP, CGMA and Asad Feroze, FCCA, FCA, LLB, FITM, FPFA facilitated interactive discussions, encouraging participants to reflect on their own strategic priorities and share experiences to strengthen their PAOs. The event was skillfully hosted by Edward Tanujaya, SE, Ak., MSc, CA, ACMA, CGMA, AFA Executive Director, ensuring an engaging and seamless workshop.
