Companion Communications is growing its social media offer to include Xiaohongshu [Little RED Book] for dining brands in Hong Kong. Xiaohongshu, also known as RED, is a social media and e-commerce platform that has been described as "China's answer to Instagram." It has over 300 million active monthly users. Why Xiahongshu? And why will we only apply our services to dining brands in Hong Kong? Well, if you live in the city you'll know that RED has started to affect dining trends here in the craziest way - suddenly random bakeries or coffee shops or even graffiti on street corners BLOW UP, and hongkongers are left scratching their heads. The last 3 months has seen an influx of dining clients asking us about Xiaohongshu and how to capture the huge Shenzhen/ Guangzhou weekend diner market. And TBH I've become fascinated by it myself. I have my own account, though I'm 100% sure I am using it wrong as its all in Mandarin and my 4 months at Beijing University did NOT equip me for social media hashtags and memes in Chinese characters! We are starting off small, with a team in place to help our specialist HK Dining PR and social team with an add-on service for our restaurant launches only. The add-ons will offer Xiaohongshu account setup and content strategy for a restaurant launch in Hong Kong, as well as influencer campaigns with a particular focus on Southern China in order to better narrate a story to weekenders from across the border. I am really thrilled by this next step in our services. The key to PR is to be really flexible and adaptive to changes. If running a single business feels challenging to you, imagine running two. I've always been the kind of person who can never sit still, constantly eager to do more and grow in the shortest amount of time. So, even though running two businesses — Joyce Tsang Content Marketing and my bubble tea shop, 2324 — is quite insane, I know with confidence that I would have regretted not acquiring the latter earlier this year. What I've learned is that running a boutique consultancy is far easier and better suited to my personality. 💻 I enjoy planning ahead and managing expectations, allowing me to schedule tasks and work around my desired lifestyle. On the other hand, running a bubble tea shop is a different story. 🍵 Many unforeseen issues can arise suddenly, beyond any planning or forecasting, requiring immediate attention to resolve. For instance, due to the unexpected combination of scorching heat and heavy rain last month, a whole 10kg batch of cream cheese at the shop went bad. It felt like throwing my money out the window. 😫 Nevertheless, this experience made me realize that I have a dependable team at the shop. They detected the problem, took appropriate action, and promptly adjusted the recipe while involving regulars to test the new product. Big gaming and marketing news for brands or agencies in #Vietnam. VNG (Vietnam Gaming) and Roblox just announced their partnership to “officially” bring Roblox to Vietnam. Until now, Roblox hasn’t officially been represented in Vietnam. Roblox have been unable to monetise the large Vietnamese market, and Vietnamese brands who have been slow to adopt the platform to reach potential customers. Given Roblox’s aggressive international and brand partnership growth plans, it makes sense they would partner with VNG to accelerate expansion into the market. Zhen Fang, Head of International Markets for Roblox said “At Roblox, our mission is to engage people with optimism and respect. This cooperation with VNG will give the user community in Vietnam the ability to access millions of virtual experiences on the Roblox platform. Vietnam is an important market for Roblox, and we are committed to bringing the best experiences to users in Vietnam”. This will likely mean quicker adoption of Roblox, as media habits change, and marketers look outside of traditional social media platforms to reach potential customers. 🚨 SPH Media's recent decision to lay off 34 technology employees amidst “urgent” restructuring shines a glaring light on a troubling trend. Setting up a RED xiaohongshu account for foreign companies can indeed be a headache. Currently, we are assisting overseas brands in registering a RED xiaohongshu account. Despite filling out the required form as per the platform's guidelines, the application got rejected, and we were asked to provide additional documents. These included a form indicating the previous company's agreement to transfer the account to the new company, a screenshot of the officially registered company, and a transaction form demonstrating the link between the previous and current companies. It can be a challenging process, but with the right approach and experience, we can overcome these obstacles.
