Last Friday, I had the opportunity to be a part of the celebratory event as a Star Volunteer at this year's Swire Trust Go-Givers and Star Volunteers Event ⭐️! It was inspiring to hear stories from fellow volunteers who tirelessly give back to the society in many unique ways. In the past year, I have been waking up at 7am every Sunday to volunteer at SPCA (Hong Kong) as a dog walker🐾. Since then, I have contributed 100+ hours helping the sweetest shelter dogs. Volunteering as a dog walker at the shelter has taught me invaluable lessons in patience and commitment. When I first met some of the dogs at the shelter, many were defensive and wary. Building relationships with these dogs takes time. By returning every week, I’ve witnessed their transformation into the sweetest companions, gaining confidence and joy as they learn to trust. If you’re looking for a way to give back, I highly encourage you to consider volunteering at an animal shelter. Every bit of help counts, whether you can walk dogs, foster, or assist with events. Together, we can make a difference! A huge thank you to SPCA (Hong Kong) for all the amazing work they do and the support I have received from their trainers 🥰! 🥟🥢We are incredibly proud to have facilitated and participated in the Sensory Restaurant on Wheels™ alongside Prudential Hong Kong and The Project Futurus! With the support from PRUVolunteers, we transformed an elderly center into a vibrant Chinese Tea House, where our elderly guests enjoyed specially prepared dim sum soft meals. Food connects people, transcending culture and age. For some of the elderly we served today, food brought back memories and stimulated their cognitive senses. Our Exco members, alongside dedicated PRUVolunteers, transformed into receptionists, chefs, and waiters of a Chinese Tea House to recreate a nostalgic and immersive Dim Sum experience at an elderly centre. The elders, some of whom have swallowing difficulties, were served Dim Sum Soft Meals in the ambience of classic Cantopop. It was a day filled with warmth and laughter, as we hope to promote social inclusion and provide a dignified dining experience for the elderly. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Time Auction and The Project Futurus for their support in making this event a resounding success. A special thanks to our committed PRUVolunteers. 🌟 What an incredible Sunday at PwC China Hong Kong’s office for the Inter-Company Volunteering Day! We brought together 30 Generation Hong Kong participants and 31 volunteers from PwC China and other leading corporations for a day filled with learning, sharing, and inspiration, all aimed at fostering professional growth and empowering our alumni and learners. Participants left motivated and eager to continue their journeys beyond the event. The day began with an inspiring speech by Douglas Johnson, PwC’s Corporate Sustainability Director, who shared his remarkable 18-year journey at PwC. 🌟 Meet Sum: Translating Paws to Love with SPCA (Hong Kong) ! 🐾 bit.ly/TA-GG24-Sum 🐈🐕 With a love for animals and a passion for translation, Sum’s volunteer journey with SPCA (Hong Kong)‘s Pawprint magazine has been nothing short of inspiring. "I've loved translation since I was young," Sum shared. "and this role allows me to use my skills for something I deeply care about.” Previously, Sum’s volunteering was mostly hands-on, like meal distribution and community visits. Now, translating Pawprint articles and event materials has been incredibly rewarding. “It’s amazing to know my work is supporting such a vital cause,” Sum says, helping SPCA raise awareness and connect with animal lovers across Hong Kong. 🐾 💻 Working remotely hasn’t stopped Sum from forming a strong bond with the SPCA team. Each translation feels like a small step toward making a bigger impact. Citybus Volunteers Celebrate Christmas with SEN Children Through Art On 6 December, Citybus was proud to take part in a heartwarming volunteer initiative co-hosted by Time Auction and Rise Wise Foundation in celebration of the International Volunteer Day on 5 December annually. Over 10 of our dedicated volunteers joined hands with participants from other organisations to celebrate the holiday season with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), alongside three adorable therapy dogs. The afternoon was filled with creativity and joy as the children expressed themselves through art. With the support of volunteers and their furry friends, the kids created beautiful and meaningful artwork to capture the festive spirit. To recognise their efforts and further elevate the holiday cheer, Citybus presented the children with special Christmas-themed light-up souvenirs, spreading warmth and smiles all around. This initiative reflects Citybus’ commitment to giving back to the community and creating meaningful connections. The United Nations has designated 5 December as International Volunteer Day to promote the development of volunteering. This year, Ocean Park participated in the "Inter-Company Volunteer Week 2024" organised by Time Auction. In cooperation with the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation (OPCFHK), we organised an ecological survey of the horseshoe crab. The aim is to help the research team collect data on the population and distribution of indicator species, which will help monitor the ecological status of the mudflats.
