About us

The D. H. Chen Foundation is a Hong Kong family philanthropic trust established in 1970 by Dr. Din Hwa Chen, an ardent philanthropist and a devout Buddhist who also found the Nan Fung Group. The Foundation has been steering and supporting numerous innovative, impactful and sustainable community initiatives to enrich lives through its five strategies, namely “Initiate, Capacity Building, Innovate, Catalyst for Collaboration, and Impact-Driven”. Aspiring to build a compassionate society and promote compassion-based values, the Foundation endeavors to put compassion into action through the work of our five Institutes - a realization of Dr. Chen’s philosophy – “Care for others as well as you would care for yourself”.

Through reflective activities and engaging discussions, this capacity-building journey aims to foster a collaborative culture and promote collective growth with the sector, igniting further the Foundation’s core values of trust, respect and openness as we work towards building a compassionate society. Evolved from the three-year Project Fuel program supporting small nonprofits through core operational funding and a co-learning Fellowship during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation-initiated Project Fire welcomes three like-minded local philanthropic organizations – #ChowTaiFookCharityFoundation, The ReThink Foundation, and #TheHongKongClubFoundation – who share the same belief in the importance of supporting core operational funding and cultivating trust among nonprofits and philanthropic organizations to create sustainable impact in the social good sector. Alongside 16 nonprofits invited by the total of four philanthropic partners, and four Project Fuel alumni organizations providing peer support, we are now a committed team of 24 in the inaugural cohort! Over the next eight months, we will pioneer a community of practice through the Fellowship, exploring a range of topics including self-management, self-care, staff wellness, and organizational management. With Project Fire, the Foundation looks forward to “Fuelling More Collaborations Through Radiating Trust”. More details of Project Fire: https://lnkd.in/etHU4ZNN AYF - Asia Pacific Youth Development Foundation Agent of Change Foundation Limited Hong Kong 康和互助社聯會 Ednovators 教育燃新 EmpowerU Foundation for Shared Impact (FSI) HELP for Domestic Workers 香港傷健共融網絡 Light of Raphael 仁德之光 OneSky 生活書院 Shakespeare4All The Sovereign Art Foundation Limited Sticky Rice Love The Green Earth Uplifters Time Auction Land Education Foundation SLCO Community Resources Limited VolTra Hong Kong #TheDHChenFoundation #ProjectFire #CollaborativePower #薪火相傳計劃

  • 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐈𝐑   At The D. H. Chen Foundation, we believe that mindfulness is an effective tool for living well and fully in the present moment. Practicing mindfulness creates space to ground and connect with one’s inner self and the universe. This is especially vital in today’s increasingly VUCA world, characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.   Together with Nan Fung Group and Pause & Breathe #停一停心呼吸, the Foundation joins hands to showcase mindfulness tips and relaxation messages around AIRSIDE - the Group’s flagship commercial development in Kai Tak, promoting Wholeness and encouraging the public to release stress and focus on the present moment. Let's take a pause and watch this animation to experience mindful breathing - and smile!   #TheDHChenFoundation #mindfulness #BreathingInTheAir

  • Watch the second episode of the video by Nan Fung Property Management (南豐物業管理) showcasing the #lifeandcareerexploration journey they offered to the participating young talents of #Matchbox, a program co-initiated by the Foundation and CoCoon Foundation to nurture the youth to be future-ready compassionate talents through job shadowing, internships and other authentic learning experiences. #TheDHChenFoundation #CoCoonFoundation #NanFungGroup

It’s not just a matter of the learning duration, but the eagerness to explore and grow that counts too.  Our 6 secondary school interns have immersed themselves in a diverse array of roles, from frontline operations like security, concierge, and clubhouse management to back-office functions such as marketing and communications, safety, and information technology. The D. H. Chen Foundation & CoCoon Foundation We truly appreciate their efforts and engagement made throughout the period, contributing to mutual growth experience. #NanFungGroup #nanfung #nfpm #weimprovethequalityoflife #propertymanagement #MatchBox #caring #youthdevelopment #internship #career #mutualgrowth

  • “Connecting the dots” is one of the DNAs of The D. H. Chen Foundation, and the recent collaboration between CoCoon Foundation's Matchbox program and Nan Fung Property Management (南豐物業管理) to introduce a two-week internship for the youth aptly demonstrates the Foundation’s efforts in this respect.  Matchbox, co-initiated with CoCoon Foundation, not only nurtures the youth participants to be future-ready compassionate talents, but also brings corporates new perspectives of the younger generation – essential for building company culture and business development nowadays. Watch the first episode of the video to know more about what the participating young talents thought about property management. #TheDHChenFoundation #CoCoonFoundation #NanFungGroup

While offering the “Work & Learn Experience”, we indeed are learning from the programme too. Thanks The D. H. Chen Foundation & CoCoon Foundation for having Nan Fung Property Management in the MatchBox Programme. The 2-week internship enables us to gain a new perspective of the industry through the eyes of the young. Check out the video if you are also interested to explore more like we do. #NanFungGroup #nanfung #nfpm #weimprovethequalityoflife #propertymanagement #MatchBox #caring #youthdevelopment #internship #career

  • "I have learned to think systematically rather than assuming something is good and just diving right into it. I have learned to start a project with proper researches and identifying target users before designing products which are user-friendly. This change of mindset helps a lot in my future career, reminding me to approach different tasks with more clarity," says Octavia Chan, one of the youth participants attended internship of #MatchBox.  It has been a year since MatchBox, a life and career exploration program, first started integrating an online platform with such authentic learning experiences as career speed-dating and internships with reflective practices, offering secondary school students the opportunities to find their sparks, rediscover their agency and purposes in life. Co-initiated with CoCoon Foundation, this program not only nurtures the youth participants to be future-ready compassionate talents, but also brings corporates new perspectives of the younger generation – essential for building company culture and business development nowadays. 【YIAA Empowering Youth - Expanding Social Impact】 The "Youth ImpACT Award" was co-initiated by BGCA and The D. H. Chen Foundation in 2016, aiming to encourage young people to participate in building a better society. Over the years, the program has witnessed the growth of the participants, and that their passion and creativity have contributed to the birth of new ideas driven by empathy, bringing fresh perspectives to solve social problems. Now, YIAA has evolved and grown into YIAA 3.0, where The D. H. Chen Foundation is the Founding Partner. This video features Tsz Kong, Bono Yeung, our Supervisor (CDD), and Ms. Ruby Yong, Program Director of The D. H. Chen Foundation who have worked closely together on planning and promoting YIAA. As Growth Partners of YIAA, they reminisce about some key moments of the program, discuss their evolving perspectives on philanthropy, and share their vision for services. We hope that our organization and the Foundation can continue to collaborate and expand our social impact in the future. 🌐 To Learn more about Youth ImpACT Award 3.0: 🌐 更多關於「感創敢為3.0」 - 青年社會創新服務獎 : https://www.yiaa.hk/   #BGCA #香港小童群益會 #DHCF #陳廷驊基金會 #YIAA #感創敢為
