What happen's in our brain? Yesterday, I attended a lecture by Albert Moukheiber, psychologist and doctor of neuroscience, entitled “Votre cerveau vous joue des tours” (Your brain plays tricks on you) at the Théâtre Édouard VII. It was about neuroscience, of course, but also about brain function and questioning. He is also the author of "Neuromania" or "Le cerveau pas bête". For Albert Moukheiber, beliefs are either inert (it makes no difference to us if it changes), or performative: if you're told something, or if the environment changes, it has an impact on your life. For example, when you're a student, a teacher makes a remark. What do we decide? What factors can influence our internal maps? According to him, our perception is partial, our attention is limited and the world is complex.  Yet our brains work, because human beings perceive, interpret and communicate with their environment. Albert Moukheiber tells us that we have 9 senses, because to these five we must add proprioception (the sense of the body in space), equilibrioception (the sense of balance), thermoception (the sense of temperature) and nociception (the sense of pain). Albert Moukheiber tells us that our brain completes what we see by hallucinating the world. It's as if my brain fills in the gaps in my perception to form my vision of the world. Indeed, most of the time, we are surrounded by incomplete information. Our personality is the way in which the individual stabilizes the ambiguity of the territory on the basis of bistable a priori or ambiguous stimuli. An optimistic person, for example, stabilizes his thinking by telling himself that the future will be better. So we don't see the world as it is, but as we are.  First-order thinking is what people think of us. Second-order thinking is what we think of others, and third-order thinking is what we think of ourselves. And 3rd-order thinking is what others think of us. Communication also plays a role, as we function in an approximate and predictive way, with automatisms. Albert tells us that we need to learn to resist our automatic thoughts.  We tend to establish loops of understanding between the brain, others and the body, and as a result, our brains depend on context.  By extension, this can disrupt the objective. For example, a student who is being singled out for attention will tend to cram instead of learning for himself, with the sole aim of getting a good grade. According to Albert Moukheiber, science is still in its infancy when it comes to understanding the brain, and we must remain humble.

(See link 👇) 😮 It finds that 73% of self-employed individuals who have been unable to work for more than 6 months due to prolonged psychosocial disorders, extend this work incapacity beyond 12 months. ⏳☠ In other words: the self-employed typically wait longer than employees before entering into work incapacity. Today , "Luxury" is used to describe one's whims that feel like they're not the standard. I have heard some say that, to them, "luxury is a candle lit bath, going to a spa, going to the best schools and restaurantsin the world". I would have to disagree. I think many confuse "luxury" with "privilege". That being said, I noted in a paper once that if luxury brands were going to maintain is status and relevancy in the modern era...they will have to become more sustainable. I meant it and have seen how very accurate I was in that statement. Older generations did not have the privileges of luxury AND sustainable means the way we to today, so I can understand why some wouldn't understand the hard drive towards sustainability. Nonetheless, it's abundantly clear that even the most extensively priced brands will leave a cheapend taste in consumers mouths if said brand is willfully wasteful. I did a study on my peers who are privileged to exist in the luxury world. This study proved my hypothesis,: we don't appreciate when a brand, typically consider a luxury brand, greenwashes us. Less and less we care about the length of the brand's heritage if the brand's history is riddled with wastefullness, harmful rhetorics *especially towards women, people of color, and those who are differently-abled *, and swims in poor leadership. Thus, to keep it's status and our investments, these brands will have no other choice than to make truly and ethical sustainable decisions.
