Code without exceptions! Next hands-on Tech Excellence Finland meetup will be about programming without exceptions. And how control flow is going to look different. Last week, we tried the 9 rules for Object Oriented Design, called Object Calisthenics (link to a post in comments). Those rules are nice to work with, especially in a safe-to-fail environment where we're all to learn some new tricks. Of the 9 rules, I have adopted to my normal programming quite a few. Especially rules 3, 4 and 9 do change the way we code. Number 2 and 5 are very good guideposts, but I don't always follow those. In the session, someone said as a learning to "how to work with objects that don't have getters&setters". Well, That's also what OO programming is about, right? In the next session - we might learn a way to think that exceptions are, well, reserved for exceptional situations (like out of memory, interrupt, etc). And how code can be very easy to reason. Last week Studisco produced the Care About IT national Hackathon and Livestream event. 63 students from Turun ammatti-instituutti and Tredu Tampereen seudun ammattiopisto participated in the hackathon and solved challenges in health tech what they pitched in the Care About IT Finland Livestream. This production is something that we developed at Studisco in co-operation with our stakeholders and volunteers in 2020 when we needed to find a solution to participate youngsters in our game production and share awareness about mental health and substance problems. After doing the event for the last 4 years in Project Kantti we were asked to participate in the Care about IT project to facilitate the Hackathon event for the project. I'm thankful for the trust that our partners have given to us! 🩷🇪🇺🇫🇮 The main value in Studisco Events is always to have students partisipating in the production and give them opportunities and platforms to shine, test, and challenge their skills to grow towards worklife. Great to see former colleagues always in seminars. Greetings from RevTech Nordic 2024. Inspiring sales, marketing, CX & tech themes so far dealing with revenue strategies, AI, leveraging data and adapting new technologies. Now keynote about Linkedin personal branding, which gave me boost to be more active here again. (A person who've done can give realistic insights pls, 'cos i've not done it yet) A investment, and a great idea! shall do. What an amazing first hackathon experience at Mindspark Tietoevry Hackathon 2024! 🚀 As the event head said during the introduction: "If this is your first hackathon, you're going to have a blast!" And wow, that turned out to be so true! 💡 Here’s what I learned in those 24 hours: Working under pressure while staying calm is key. Some decisions may not make sense at first, but with time, they often turn out to be the right ones. Teamwork is important in handling stress together and trusting each other’s skills. Learning from competitors was eye-opening. There’s always something new to absorb from others! Never lose hope. Even when we were stuck for 3 hours, we stayed calm, and our Juggadu solution worked in the end! #TeamHomelanderIsBest (Teammates, you know what I mean 😉). 🔧 Our project: We developed an AI-based medicine reminder app that assists users in setting voice-enabled reminders for their medications. It was challenging but rewarding to see our idea take shape and work effectively. A huge thanks to my teammates for making this experience memorable! 🗺 How to tackle vacation policies in a multi-cultural company? We celebrate the myriad of cultural and religious diversity within our team at Moder.app. We cherish the value that diversity brings to our team dynamics and creativity. While Finnish law provides certain holidays, we recognize the importance of accommodating the diverse needs of our employees. Recently, I came across an inspiring example from If Insurance, who addressed a similar challenge through comprehensive research and collaboration with trade unions. While we may not yet have the same level of influence, we are committed to finding meaningful solutions within our capacity. Putting our money where our mouth is, we announced a new approach to vacation policies. In addition to our standard six weeks of vacation, we encourage all employees to utilize their vacation days to observe and celebrate important cultural and religious holidays. We will prioritize these requests to ensure that every team member feels empowered to honor their traditions and beliefs without hesitation. I believe this is just the beginning of our journey toward greater inclusivity. According to this fresh AI report, the use of AI is largely viewed positively, especially in Finland, but almost half of organisations do not yet use AI at all and only 15% have an AI strategy. 🤖 Finland is a leader in AI in the Nordics, with 61% of Finnish organisations using AI, compared to 52% in Norway, 48% in Denmark and 45% in Sweden. Currently, AI is used in organizations especially to boost productivity and optimize operations: 43% of organizations use AI to automate processes and 42% to improve the quality of products or services. Almost half (49%) of Nordic organisations, especially small companies, do not yet use AI at all. According to the study, the biggest obstacle to adoption is uncertainty or lack of information about the potential applications of artificial intelligence.
