Annual Savings: $170,000 | MSU Information Technology | May 2024
MSU Information Technology (MSU IT) has re-evaluated the MSU print landscape and reduced low traffic printers, creating an annual cost avoidance of 34%, saving approximately $170,000 per year. We aim to create a future state of financial stability and environmental sustainability for MSU printing services, aligned with MSU’s 2030 Strategic Plan. We set out with a goal to maintain print productivity even with the reduction in devices, and we are now aimed at providing higher service quality with newer and more efficient machines in the highest traffic areas.
Annual Savings: $408,000 | MSU Information Technology | Spring 2023
Michigan State University Information Technology (MSU IT) implemented TeamDynamix (TDX), a comprehensive support ticket and project management system, in Spring 2023. With a goal to streamline service delivery and integrate management systems across campus, this initiative has achieved a cost savings of $408,000 annually. Since its launch, TDX has streamlined MSU IT’s ticket intake process, enhancing the user experience. This sets the stage for future financial stability and sustainability within MSU IT, in line with MSU's 2030 Strategic Plan.
Annual Savings: $1.2 million | MSU Information Technology | Summer 2023
In summer 2023, the MSU Mainframe was decommissioned and removed from the Data Center. This transition to more efficient, sustainable, and secure technologies has resulted in annual savings of $1.2 million in maintenance expenses. Additionally, over 700,000 files were successfully transferred to Campus Solutions and SIS. As part of this effort, dial-up internet services were also discontinued due to low utilization, giving way to more cost-effective alternatives.
Cost Savings: $726,274 | MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities | Fiscal Year 2024
With over eleven thousand purchase orders from over 300 different vendors, the Material & Logistics department (M&L) recorded a trackable cost avoidance of $726,274 and has maintained an annual .5 percent inventory variance over the last five years. As a benchmark, anything less than 2 percent is considered high performance, and anything less than 1 percent is industry standard best-in-class.
Enhanced Campus Services | MSU Information Technology | Through 2027
MSU IT has embarked on a multi-year network infrastructure improvement plan that will serve to improve the Spartan community’s internet services across campus. Improvements to buildings, new construction, and critical network upgrades will reduce downtime, increase flexibility, and enhance bandwidth. In pursuit of the Stewardship and Sustainability goals contained in the MSU 2030 Strategic Plan, this initiative promotes current and next-generation energy-efficient technologies to enable future growth and sustainability.
