Women-led social enterprises play a vital role in tackling socio-economic challenges in the MENA region but, despite their potential, these enterprises often face systemic barriers, including limited access to finance, a lack of entrepreneurial skills and financial education, as well as restrictive regulatory frameworks. The Mediterranean is the world's leading tourism destination, attracting 1/3 of the world's tourism. But the region is still highly dependent on unsustainable extractive models of development, exacerbating the demand of resources, especially water in the summer. To combat this, the industry must shift from extractive to sustainable blue economy practices, promoting renewable energy and supporting local communities.
