Recent data from the 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 revealed a 𝟱𝟬% 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 on trains in the UK over the past two years. While alarming, there is hope—𝟱𝟭% 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀 that are women reported that other rail passengers intervened to help. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲, "𝗜𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝗻," 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Key leaders who are men from across the rail and transportation industries are coming together to discuss the importance of the White Ribbon campaign, and how we can all contribute to creating a safer, more inclusive environment. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has released a new study addressing why there aren't more women truck drivers and what can be done to change that. The key challenges? - Negative industry image - Training barriers - Unsatisfactory company culture - Difficult OTR lifestyle - Limited parking/restroom access - Gender harassment & discrimination The solutions? - Improve communication and recognition in companies - Address financial and logistical training barriers - Offer better support for work-life balance and safety The study highlights that women are drawn to trucking for its pay parity with men. There are highs and lows to most aspects of life and its important to look at both as we head towards the end of International Women's Day. This week I have seen some wonderful posts celebrating the successes and achievements of women across every sector, documented in a way that will ensure that we don't repeat history where many women's achievements were not documented and are therefore not recognised today. And I love seeing the recognition by women of other women and by men of women, truly showing their allyship. But there are less positive topics we should also make sure are highlighted whilst the spotlight is on us. Did you know that: >Women are almost twice as likely as men to change their behaviours to feel safe when taking public transport. >50% of women travel with others to feel safe, compared with 28% of men; and >39% of women arrange for someone to meet them at their destination, compared with just 15% of men. WalkSafe and Worldline UK&I have joined forces to urge the Government to better consider how to make our transport systems safer and more inclusive. Exciting news for your Tuesday morning!   The Women in Rail and Railway Industry Association EDI Charter have announced they will be launching the ‘Rail Industry Neuroinclusive Community’ (RINC) 👏 This will be a committee dedicated to ensuring the railway is a positive, inclusive space for neurodivergent individuals, whether they are passengers or colleagues. A significant proportion of the people who work in the rail industry and the people who travel on trains are neurodivergent. Estimates vary between 20-30%. This is a remarkable portion of the industry’s staff and customers, who to a greater or lesser extent struggle with an industry largely designed for the neurotypical! Being proud EDI Charter signatories, Intuitive are delighted to see this development. We are strong believers in ‘diversity of thought’ in all its different forms, and diverse thinking is vital to solving today’s complex problems. 🌍 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗸 On November 25, High Commissioner Volker Türk addressed the 2024 Forum on Business and Human Rights, emphasizing the urgent need for businesses to adopt human rights-centered practices. He highlighted the importance of the “right mix of measures”—a combination of regulatory frameworks and voluntary commitments—to tackle widespread business-related human rights abuses. “By anchoring our economies and businesses in human rights,” he stated, “we can make our societies more stable, more predictable, more peaceful, and ultimately more prosperous.” Türk also underscored the need to protect human rights defenders and ensure accountability, reminding us that “every decision today must consider its impact on human rights and our planet for generations to come.” Let’s take this message forward to build a more just and sustainable global economy. #HumanRights #BusinessAndHumanRights #HumanRightsEconomy #OHCHR #UnitedNations
