The UN environment program recently published their 2024 Emissions Gap Report (https://lnkd.in/dBRJ4RDN), where they state that a failure to increase ambition and start delivering immediately would put the world on course for a temperature increase of 2.6-3.1°C over the course of this century, with severe implications for people, planet and economies. However, it remains technically possible to get on a 1.5°C pathway, but we all need to do more. For instance, how can we ensure everyone has access to the best cancer care while minimizing environmental impact? Virtual Reality to reduce anesthesia... Is that feasible? The European Journal of Pain published a study by our Danish partner and customer Aarhus Universitetshospital that measured if SyncVR Medical's program Relax&Distract has an effect on the pain threshold of children before surgery. The study, a randomized, crossover trial, showcased that immersive VR games and videos increased pressure pain thresholds while markedly reducing anxiety levels in children, compared with distraction on a tablet (comparison group 1) or simple conversation (comparison group 2). This study is not just a win for science. Cooperation between Sweden and India in the area of Healthcare has only grown stronger over the years. The MoU signed between the the two Governments in 2009 forms the basis of a great partnership. Several Swedish companies in the healthcare sector have successful operations in India - Astra Zaneca Getinge Essity HemoCue AB Elekta Medicover Hospitals to name a few. Consul General Sven Östberg spoke at the CII Western Region's Hospital Tech 2024. Excerpts from the speech: - Sweden is committed to high-quality healthcare for all. Innovation and technology are central to Swedish healthcare. We have a history of great medical innovations like the pacemaker and Gamma knife. - Sweden has been a pioneer in digitizing healthcare services through remote monitoring, telemedicine and AI-based diagnostics. These innovations can be adapted to address some of India’s most pressing challenges, particularly in the countryside.  - India has made remarkable strides in healthcare, from eradicating polio to becoming a global leader in generic medicines.  - I believe that Swedish technology and Indian innovation, offer a perfect ground for collaboration. It could be by establishing joint research centers that focuses on innovation in medical technologies such as AI-driven diagnostics, minimally invasive surgery, and advanced prosthetics. This will help both countries to stay at the forefront of the healthcare evolution. - Patient-centered care is fundamental to the Swedish system. We tailor healthcare to individual needs, involving patients in decisions and providing compassionate, personalized care. By establishing training programs that allow Indian nurses and caregivers to train in Sweden, India can benefit from our advanced expertise in patient-centered care. - Collaboration is crucial to our healthcare success. In Sweden, government agencies, healthcare providers, research institutions, and the private sector work together to develop innovative solutions. By collaborating with Indian universities and medical institutions, Sweden can develop joint medical training programs that blends our strong focus on clinical excellence with India’s need to rapidly train and upskill healthcare professionals. I also strongly believe that one area of possible collaboration is joint research on diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, which are prevalent in both countries.  - Sweden welcomes Indian investments in our healthcare and pharma sectors, or any other forms of collaboration. - Our partnership not only enhances healthcare but also contributes to economic growth and social development. Traditional PSA testing, while valuable, has faced limitations in detecting high-risk disease while often leading to overdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures. However, studies like the ProScreen trial in Finland (see link in comment) demonstrate promising results by integrating MRI alongside PSA and blood tests, significantly reducing unnecessary biopsies and detecting high-grade cancers more accurately. Meta-analyses further underscore the superiority of MRI-directed protocols, showing higher detection rates of clinically significant cancers and lower rates of biopsy and detection of insignificant cancers compared to PSA screening alone. 9/11/24: Getinge Completes the Acquisition of Paragonix Technologies, Inc. Getinge paid approximately USD 253 million in cash upon completion of the acquisition, on a cash and debt free basis. The earn-out payments are expected to be paid between 2024 and 2026 if agreed upon regulatory and financial performance milestones are achieved and may exceed USD 224 million in aggregate. The initial payout related to the acquisition has been financed through a bridge loan provided by SEB. The acquisition is expected to have a slightly negative impact on Getinge's adjusted earnings per share in 2024.
