Yesterday's NHS waiting times figures demonstrate just how far there is still to go to clear the backlog. Our CEO & co-founder Jacob Haddad spoke to Times Radio about the urgent need for staff to be given tech that streamlines waiting lists and improves patient care. He said: "Today's figures demonstrate the critical need for a whole systems approach to healthcare, it's not just about minor tweaks; it's about fundamentally rethinking how care is delivered and ensuring the system is joined up." Jacob also emphasised the importance of leveraging communication platforms to reduce waiting lists and improve efficiency. "By contacting patients with simple questions, we've found that many can be removed from waiting lists because they no longer need treatment." From their own experience, Price, a HealthTech founder, M&A advisor for Nelson Advisors and Non-Executive Director for various Digital Health companies, and Al-Ubaydli, Founder and Chief Executive of Digital Health social enterprise, Patients Know Best, shine a light on the main issues that can make selling to the NHS a challenge. The pair discuss success stories of startups which have successfully sold to the NHS, before assessing whether companies and suppliers need to take more care in ensuring they are pitching the right solution to the right organisation. They give their views on whether the NHS procurement process has become overcomplicated, a point raised in a session at Rewired 2024, and speculate whether the forthcoming Procurement Act (which was originally due to come into force in October 2024, but has been delayed until February 2025) will solve some issues and make it easier for those selling in the health technology sector. "Digital Health and Care Wales publishes organisational strategy for 2024-2030, highlighting need for “a digital and data revolution” “NHS in Wales is at a turning point. The challenges we collectively face are complex and ever-changing; improving health and reducing inequalities against a backdrop of the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited funding. But the opportunity to transform health and care is also significant.” The strategy sets out five missions, including ✅ providing a platform for enabling digital transformation ✅ delivering high quality digital products and services ✅ expanding the digital health and care record ✅ driving better values and outcomes through innovation ✅ being a trusted strategic partner and a high quality, inclusive and ambitious organisation. On providing a platform for enabling digital transformation, DHCW’s future model is a single data platform and a single digital health and care record, which it states will become “the foundation for all digital services and applications in Wales”. Open architecture to support innovation and the development of data standards for health and care are also highlighted as key features. Plans to 2030 include moving all data stores and services to the NDR platform to create a single national Clinical Data Repository, extending data standards and components to social care and other partners, and establishing an all-Wales framework for sharing health and social care data. Nice to see the homeland trying to move things forward (I'm half Welsh!) There's that slippery phrase "enabling digital transformation".... will be interested to see how this manifests. #diitalhealth #strategy

Finding the right product for the right customer is key, especially in the digital health space for MSK care. The challenge right now is that traditional MSK ecosystems often have a poor understanding and suboptimal use of technology. Many digital health platforms either try to replace or run parallel to traditional care, missing the mark on true integration. Interestingly, the most successful digital health companies today—based on economic value—are often HR solutions, offering little in improving patient care or access to real MSK solutions. The solution? It starts with having a clear, well-defined application of digital health technology.
