While other companies are relying entirely on the development of e-mobility, Deutz wants to concentrate on a different energy source. Combustion engines with hydrogen are intended to ensure economic success. Cologne-based Deutz AG, a world-famous engine manufacturer, is realigning itself. In the future, there will be a separate department for the development of green engine variants. Deutz does not want to concentrate solely on e-mobility, reports the Handelsblatt. Rather, the company management sees hydrogen technology as a promising solution for the future. The company boss also relies on the combustion engine concept In the run-up to the general meeting on May 8th, company boss Sebastian Schulte told the Handelsblatt: “We have to become clearer in the green business and focus more on technologies in which we have a lead with our know-how.” Schulte sees this lead in development of hydrogen combustion engines. Here you can use the experience with petrol and diesel engines with which Deutz has been successful so far. The CEO explained that Deutz wanted to become a “pioneer” when it came to hydrogen engines.

They are cars like the #Renault 5, the #Citroen eC3 and now the #Hyundai Inster. They are able to get customers excited about e-mobility. They cost around or well under 25,000 euros. ➤   This is certainly still no bargain, but the manufacturers are putting together attractive leasing rates for these cars. This makes electric driving more accessible to broad sections of the population - and that is precisely why such models are needed. The latest electric car in this trio is the Inster. I was able to drive it for the first time in September at the Tannistest in Denmark. At that time, I was unable to write anything about its qualities, as the embargo only expired on 1 November. Now I can - and you can read the test here. For me, the Inster is certainly not one of the beauties in terms of design, but it makes up for this with its inner values. ➤   Inside, it surprises with lots and lots of space, fully folding seats and good driving performance. It therefore has everything it takes to appeal to those who are still unfamiliar with e-mobility. The Inster is also one of the candidate cars for the The Car of the Year award, the voting process (Longlist, Shortlist, Final Tests) for which is still ongoing. The international jury will make their final decision in January. I am curious to see how the Inster will fare - for me, at any rate, it is one of the surprises in an otherwise strong field of competitors. This development represents a major step in BMW's commitment to transitioning the MINI brand to full electrification by 2030. The plant's ability to manufacture four models with three different drive types—electric, hybrid, and combustion—on a single production line highlights the flexibility and technological advancement at Leipzig. Extensive upgrades, including additions to the body shop, paint shop, and assembly, have enabled the plant to increase its production capacity to 350,000 units per year. IG Metall President Christiane Benner sets out an agenda for investment and job security in response to the German auto summit yesterday: "In view of the worsening crisis in the automotive industry, the sluggish ramp-up of electromobility, the reluctance to invest in the electromobility value chain, the time pressure in international competition for the markets of the future and the foreseeable failure to meet climate targets, IG Metall is now calling for a rapid new funding package for electromobility. Accelerating the ramp-up of e-mobility would help the climate as well as the manufacturers and suppliers who have invested billions in e-mobility. Investments must be worthwhile and fines next year for missing climate targets would be a fatal waste of money... We call on employers: Stop the hectic and action-oriented reductions in staff and locations. We need investments in the future and securing skilled workers, staying power instead of quick returns. Let us talk instead: exchange instead of excuses. Still very worthwhile reading and reviewing 👍 "Concentrating on a single technology will result in a lack of resources, even in a circular economy. The FVV study consciously works with what are known as ›100 per cent scenarios‹, as these enable an excellent comparison of the environmental impact of individual technologies throughout the entire energy chain and the vehicle life cycle, while also allowing bottlenecks to be determined. Comparing the demand for critical raw materials with the available reserves and resources shows that – even assuming a high recycling rate – certain raw materials will become very scarce if the rest of the world follows the European model and uses the same technologies. The raw materials in question depend on the selected combination of energy carrier and powertrain. For example, if the selected technology is battery electric vehicles using the currently dominant battery technology (lithium-ion batteries with nickelmanganese-cobalt cathodes), cobalt and lithium availability will be the limiting factor for the ramp-up speed, and this will have a significant impact on the cost of the batteries. Moving to solid-state batteries with a pure lithium anode will significantly exacerbate the scarcity of resources in the lithium supply chain. For fuel cell powertrains, the availability of platinum is a highly limiting factor. In a scenario in which the entire world transitions to 100 per cent fuel cell use, all known resources will not be sufficient, let alone those that can be tapped in an economically viable manner. A Model-Based Approach for the Rapid Ramp-up of Innovative Production Equipment with Jürgen Fleischer from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). To reconcile the two seemingly conflicting goals of highly flexible processes and high production volumes, new concepts are needed for singulation and stacking processes. Combining the traditional discrete stacking process with a continuous cutting operation will allow rapid changes in electrode dimensions. Wondering what´s up with the once powerful German #automotiveindustry? Why they are slumping? Here is all the madness and stupidity in one article from Germany´s biggest tabloid BILD: https://lnkd.in/dQUWzHvS In short this article claims that all political efforts to support #emobility are the wrong way to go....and have always been. The current crisis at Volkswagen is entirely being attributed to the company´s increased focus on E-Mobility, which is being characterized as the itself with a insufficient charging infrastructure, reach problems etc. OH MY GOD! Really?! This is exactly the thinking that did get the German car manufacturers into this kind of trouble. Supported by "professional" politicians whose only business experience stems from photo ops in companies. Let´s look at some facts: - The US and China, the two largest automotive markets in the world, have already charted their course towards E-Mobility. And they do NOT need German cars. German car manufacturers still want to dream of combustion engines being the "true" future? Fine - dream on and continue to build cars for the European market (excl. countries like Norway where we already have more electric than combustion cars registered). - Volkswagen´s focus on E-mobility is too strong? No, it´s too late (like all other German car manufacturers). The German players are way too expensive as compared to Chinese players - and even tariffs won´t change that. - Reach and charging infrastructure? Well, look at #california as one example. Fast-charging stations everywhere - downtown areas, supermarket parking lots, private apartment parking, corporate parking garages. And reach? The average German car driver drives 36,9 kilometers per day. No problem at all given the right charging infrastructure! - It´s all foul play and Chinese players are subsidized? Cry on, babies! Our state-contribution for E-Mobility was a subsidy as well - and slashed cold turkey within day, because our government doesn´t know the difference between costs and investments. Maybe the Chinese manufacturers are subsidized, they probably are - but they already are about 10 years ahead. So THAT is not the main competitive difference. - Last, but not least: German manufacturers will heavily suffer from tariffs since they have largely outsourced their E-Mobility to China (e.g. Mercedes-Benz AG to GEELY, one of their largest shareholders). Beat me with a stick, but discussions like the one in the article exemplify the downward spiral of the German car industry instead of providing solutions.

The latest AllBright Report shows notable progress in gender diversity within Germany's 100 largest family companies. 🎉 In a significant shift, the representation of women in leadership roles is increasing. Although the current proportion stands at 12.6%, change is underway. Over the past two years, the proportion of women in executive positions has grown by 4 percentage points, nearly matching the growth seen in listed companies. Interestingly, nearly half of family businesses now include a woman in their management teams, a significant increase from just under a third two years ago. Yet, there's a stark difference between listed and non-listed family businesses. The proportion of women in leadership roles is almost double in listed companies (19.6%) compared to non-listed ones (10.6%). This suggests that transparency and external influence can drive gender diversity in management. Let's not overlook the fact that succession still remains male-dominated, particularly within owner families. However, as the Baby Boomer generation begins to retire, there's a golden opportunity for companies to diversify their leadership. Change is happening, and some companies are already leading the way. Working with German OEMs on a Mobility (you still say Automobile) Strategy since 2008. They know since 15 years or more what they have to do: they just have to do it. The CxU has stood in the way of innovation in mobility and energy for over 16 years - transportation ministers and the VDA have torpedoed all chances of change: bringing us up to this point. And you continue to ask the wrong people for strategy, and have the wrong people to execute: and anyone aware and watching this sees that the VDA and yourself are complicit.

The whole #cariad case shows beautifully that if you can’t build software in-house you probably can’t outsource it. If you can’t build up a software organization and unleash its potential within our software focused world. You probably can’t create a company that does it. Especially if you hard wire it to the incapable structures within the parent company.

The Red Dot Award in the "Design Concept" category was launched over a decade ago with the aim of recognizing innovative design concepts that pave the way for exceptional products of tomorrow. After city and intercity buses, coaches will also be electric in the future - BEV or FCEV drives have been available from several suppliers since Busworld 2023. King Long is now proudly promoting the award for the Merry Combo, a 12.25m long, 2.55m wide and 3.88m high battery-electric coach.  King Long begins its European tour in Hanover at the IAA Transportation, the smart BEV coach is on the Chinese brand's stand in Hall 22 at space A22. After that, it will be on display in Madrid at the International Bus and Coach Fair (FIAA) from October 22 to 25, 2024, as King Long told omnibus.news. What do they notice (immediately) as an observer? The Chinese want to know? The Merry Combo's body and exterior break away from the traditional box-shaped bus design, was the answer. Its multi-curved design language is inspired by elements of traditional Chinese culture such as calligraphy and classical dance, because in the Far East, brushes are used instead of rulers and pens.
