Amid violent unrest in New Caledonia, the governments of Australia and New Zealand are sending planes to evacuate their nationals. Hundreds of tourists have been trapped in hotels due to the turmoil. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed that French authorities have authorized two evacuation flights, with additional flights being planned. Approximately 300 Australians are currently in New Caledonia. New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced that an initial flight would bring home 50 passengers with urgent needs, with more flights to follow. The French High Commission in New Caledonia reported that the airport remains closed for commercial flights, leaving around 3,200 people stranded. The unrest in New Caledonia began over changes to the constitution that would allow more migrants, primarily from France, to vote, sparking deadly riots after the National Assembly approved the changes. The riots have led to six deaths, hundreds of injuries, and widespread destruction, including looted and burnt businesses and road barricades. The indigenous Kanak people fear the new voting rules will dilute their political influence. French authorities are deploying additional military and police forces to protect public buildings and maintain order. One trouble, particularly for NZ will be a lack of air assets, limiting the number of trips and likely leading to a reliance on Australia to evacuate some of our citizens. Regardless, this is a great example of why countries, even little old New Zealand need a defence force, because you never know where and when you will need them. Smoke Alarms and Children Not Waking Up???? In honour of Fire Prevention week, our team at Quint Services is pleased to share tips, videos, and articles all week with you. Please share with your team members, friends, and family. Smoke Alarms (often called smoke detectors) are an incredible life saving device. Various jurisdictions will have different requirements for the amount, location, and power set up for them. Do your best to be familiar with your requirements in your area. But a good rule of thumb for all is to have hardwired with battery back up units on all levels of your house and in each bedroom. Up until 2019 I was under the assumption that the annoying, ear piercing noise from smoke alarms woke us all up. As it turns out,33 this is not the case. There are some people who need that extra, or different, tone/motivator to wake up. And guess who smoke alarms have been known to struggle to wake up? Our children! I even tested this one night on my son Benjamin in 2019 after reading various articles. If I wasn’t already neurotic enough about smoke alarms in my house - witnessing first hand my son not waking up sent me over the deep end! While smoke detectors are credited with saving thousands of lives each year, some researchers suggest that you cannot always rely on their alarm sounds to wake up sleeping children during an emergency. A small study conducted in the U.K. by researchers at the University of Dundee found that more than 80 percent of children between the ages of 2 and 13 did not wake up from a standard issue alarm. And maybe even invest in one that you can record your voice on. About Fire Prevention Week Since 1922, the NFPA has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. During Fire Prevention Week, children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Firefighters provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires. Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage. This horrific conflagration killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures, and burned more than 2,000 acres of land.

TMH to revive production of passenger coaches for speeds of 200 km/h The relevant Memorandum for five years was signed between TMH and the Federal Passenger Company (FPC, part of Russian Railways) within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum last week. According to the agreement, the manufacturer and RZD’s subsidiary are going to cooperate in terms of evaluation of the market needs for this kind of rolling stock, and consequent developing and launching the production of such passenger coaches. FPC has a long-term contract, signed in 2019, with TMH’s plant in Tver for the supply of up to 3,700 passenger coaches, which are scheduled to be delivered by 2025. Good Friday morning, Expect airport delays at BZN (BOZEMAN,MT) this weekend due to a FLY-IN. It appears as if LSZH and EHAM are both in recovery mode after last night's IT disruption. EGPH is not available due to IT issues. No night slots at EGCC from 2330-0600 local time until Oct 27th. Tropical outlook - West Pacific / Indian Ocean basin - invest area 91W, 175nm East of Manila will move slowly to the WNW over the next few days and slowly strengthen. Invest area 92W, 865nm SSE of Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan will move to the NNW over the next few days and could rapidly intensify. I have included a few images from the latest EURO model to show possible outcomes. Eastern Pacific- Atlantic - no concerns for the next several days. US Severe weather outlook - slight risks exist through this evening from Western KS to the Rapid City area. In the longer range, into next  week an overall stagnant upper pattern, a somewhat nondescript surface pattern lacking any appreciable cyclogenesis is forecast. Thus, severe weather chances appear low. Europe analysis - a cold front will pass through the UK on Saturday with a few showers and heavy thunderstorms, mainly over France and by Sunday it will pass through Germany, thereafter, becoming stationary over central Spain. Expect significant enroute delays over Central Europe on Sunday as a result of this thunderstorm activity. Estofex has already an alert for possible severe thunderstorms on Saturday over much of France, and the Balkans. Installing a new surveillance camera where it’s been requested is just one part of the job. Getting the camera placement at the right height, ensuring no blind spots, ensuring tampering is not possible, making sure lighting is good for a high quality feed, the angles are OK and weather isn’t going to prevent good footage (rain drops on lenses are annoying!) is all part of the installation process. The next part is the commissioning. Commissioning VSS cameras after installation is a critical step to ensure the system operates effectively and meets security requirements. This process involves configuring the cameras, calibrating their settings, and integrating them with the network and recording systems. During commissioning, each camera is tested to verify proper functionality, image quality, and optimal coverage of designated areas. This step also includes setting up advanced features such as motion detection, alerts, and analytics to ensure they perform as expected. Proper commissioning of VSS cameras means the entire system is fine-tuned to provide reliable surveillance, enabling proactive monitoring and quick response to any security incidents. Proper commissioning not only enhances the effectiveness of the security system but also ensures compliance with any regulatory standards and organisational policies. A job well done in this control room by our team.

Trust of yourself and your crew strengthens the team. To have success collectively and individually, you must have trust in yourself and your crew. The officers have to build a trust in their firefighters to do their job and the firefighters have to build a trust in their officers so they can do their job. Without trust, the special bond a crew must have cannot exist. Train together, communicate openly with each other, share and learn with and from each other. Steering: Maintaining a steady course and avoiding sudden maneuvers that could cause the vessel to capsize. Speed Control: Adjusting speed to match the sea conditions and prevent excessive rolling or pitching. Trim: Adjusting the vessel's trim (the distribution of weight) to improve stability. Engine Management: Ensuring the engines are running efficiently and are ready to respond to any changes in the weather. 3. Crew and Vessel Safety: Safety Procedures: The captain should ensure all crew members are familiar with safety procedures for bad weather, including: Life Jackets: Wearing life jackets and securing them properly.
