Austria 🇦🇹: The digitization fund for radio is to be increased by 1 million euros per year. This fund supports the costs of digital terrestrial radio broadcasting via DAB+. "From June, 30 new radio programs will be launched via DAB+ and will make the radio offering in Austria even more colorful and diverse," says Drumm. "This will give Austrians even more choice, and it will be completely free and easy to access. Germany 🇩🇪: More than 65 million people in Germany use linear radio, whether on the radio or online. Three out of four of them use digital radio (also) via the Internet or via DAB+. Maybe something to read this summer: OECD Artificial Intelligence Review of Germany This report provides an international benchmarking of Germany’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem and discusses progress in implementing its national AI strategy. The report draws on quantitative and qualitative data and insights from the OECD.AI Policy Observatory and from the OECD Programme on AI in Work, Innovation, Productivity and Skills (AI-WIPS) – an OECD research programme financed by the German Federal Government – and results from a series of interviews with a wide range of stakeholders in Germany. The review discusses Germany’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges in AI, and provides recommendations to steer AI policy in Germany in the coming years. The evidence is presented according to the core focus areas outlined in Germany’s national AI strategy, which include: 1) minds; 2) research; 3) transfer and applications; 4) the world of work; 5) policy and regulatory frameworks; 6) society. Furthermore, the report discusses AI infrastructure and it includes three sector spotlights on AI in the public sector, AI and environmental sustainability and AI and healthcare. Together with Telefónica Germany, the Aspen Institute Germany organized the last Digital Dish in 2024 on November 26 on the topic of “Transatlantic Tech Policy in 2025 & Beyond.” Together with Annegret Bendiek from the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), Sharinee L. Jagtiani (PhD) from German Marshall Fund of the United States, Marc Lendermann from German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport, and Jens Redmer from Google, the forum discussed how tech policy is expected to change in the next few years. While some concern was expressed regarding future U.S. trade policies and how that impacts the tech sphere, the discussion showed that there are some opportunities for hope. In particular, the next few years present a chance to strengthen bilateral dialogues on tech policy, improve and expand digital education, and strengthen digital solidarity among democracies.
