How can you motivate group members to achieve their best work?
Everyone is unique and has different goals and aspirations. It's up to the leader to align each individual's personal goals with the business goals to create a win-win scenario. Regular check-ins (like 1:1s) are important to sustain the business alignment and motivation. The relationship between the leader and each group member then becomes the cornerstone of motivation. Additionally, defining the what (deliverables), why (motivation), and how (values) together with your team helps everyone get clarity on their role and a sense of belonging. Being transparent, leading by example, and establishing a culture of trust & autonomy will help the team stay motivated and engaged.

What are the best ways to manage your emotions when receiving feedback?
1. Separate the source from the message We tend to dismiss feedback from people we don't like and blindly accept feedback from people we respect. Write down the feedback on a piece of paper and read it back with your own inner voice rather than the messenger's. 2. It's not about you Remember - feedback is someone else’s opinion. It is not an absolute truth. In fact, it probably has very little to do with you in the first place! Don't dismiss the message, but there's no need to take it to heart. 3. Respond instead of react After receiving feedback, you don't need to respond right away. Once you calm down and can think rationally, take some time to reflect on the feedback, and then respond accordingly.

How can you research a company to tailor your resume?
First of all, you should not be doing much resume tailoring for a specific job or company. That's because it's not about you trying to fit into what a company is looking for, it's about whether the company fits the type of job you are targeting. So the first thing you should identify is exactly the type of role you would like. Only then should you look for companies/job openings that match your criteria. Find 5-10 such job openings, identify what's common and then tailor your resume to emphasize the requirements they're looking for. Now you have a resume tailored for your preferred role targeting companies/job openings that could be a good fit! And that's all the tailoring you need :)

My quick tip if you're interviewing for a CTO role: If you'll be the ONLY engineer on the team... It's not a CTO position. 😜
