Big news from Dryad Networks! 🌟 We are thrilled to once again be featured in WIRED! In their latest piece, 'Environmental Sensing Is Here, Tracking Everything from Forest Fires to Threatened Species', Sabrina Weiss highlights our Silvanet wildfire sensors as a game-changing innovation for early fire detection. Powered by solar energy and AI, our sensors “smell” tell-tale gases like hydrogen and carbon monoxide, providing ultra-early wildfire alerts within minutes—far ahead of satellites or cameras. This distinction makes Silvanet a crucial tool for preventing forest fires and protecting the world’s largest carbon sink: our forests. 🌳 This recognition is not just about Dryad: it’s about the collective effort to bring cutting-edge technology to nature conservation. From fighting wildfires to monitoring forest health, IoT and AI are transforming forest management, and we’re proud to lead the charge. Another Forbes feature for us at Dryad Networks! 📰 We are highlighted as a leader in the fight against climate change, with our innovative Silvanet system recognized for revolutionizing wildfire detection. The article underscores how our solar-powered sensors and AI technology catch fires in their earliest smoldering stages: much earlier than traditional methods like cameras or satellites. As Brian Freedman writes, climate change is a massive challenge, but integrated technologies like ours are already making a difference in protecting forests, communities, and industries like winemaking. Thanks to Andrew Karsh, Co-founder and General Partner at Bay Bridge Ventures, for the shoutout. Andrew had this to say about Dryad: “Dryad has an amazing product: Not only is it solar-powered, but it uses artificial intelligence to monitor numerous environmental factors in real-time, catching fires before they spread. It’s a dramatic step forward in reducing the risk of forest fires while also creating significant returns.” A big thank you to Forbes, Brian, and Andrew for spotlighting the impact of tech-driven innovation in combating climate change. We are delighted to be working with Yishan Wong and his team at Terraformation in Hawai'i. By deploying solar-powered IoT sensors in forests around the world, we’re not just detecting wildfires early - we’re changing the trajectory of how we prevent and manage these disasters. The time to act is now. Join us in harnessing technology to protect our forests, our communities, and our future.
Terraformation has installed a low-cost wildfire early detection system at our Hawaiʻi pilot site. Forests have huge potential to draw down carbon—but when they burn, the effect flips and releases carbon. Both of those factors make it extremely important to protect them. Reliable early detection is key to smart forest fire management. While some fires are a natural part of healthy forest ecosystems, early detection is essential to smart forest fire management: containing the worst wildfires and protecting lives and property. But wildfire detection systems need to cover huge areas of land, so we need very low unit-costs while remaining highly reliable. Our AI-powered sensors, made by Dryad Networks, detect early indicators of fire and send an alert through a mesh network. It’s also fast: sensors can detect fires very early, buying time for suppression crews to arrive before they grow out of control. This can help protect not only forests, but people and homes. https://refore.st/3OkGnkT Terraformation is dedicated to global forest restoration to mitigate climate change. For project sponsors and forestry teams, early fire detection helps reduce risk and preserve progress. It helps us get closer to our goal of a reforested planet, faster. In Hawaiʻi, we’re keenly aware of the toll wildfires can take. The 2023 fires that devastated Maui are never far from our minds. We’re committed to restoring and protecting this land’s native biodiversity. We’re pleased with this nature tech solution and its potential for our reforestation projects in Hawaiʻi and across the globe. To learn how these sensors create an “internet of trees,” visit our blog! https://refore.st/3CCTE5T (Disclosure: Yishan is also an angel investor in Dryad)
