Ethos Foundation (Switzerland) is raising the bar for corporate governance, with new guidelines set to reshape board structures. Key changes include: 📉 Mandates limits: A reduced cap of four mandates per board member (previously five). 👩‍💼 Diversity push: 30% women on boards by 2026, as many Swiss companies lag behind. 🌱 Sustainability reports: Stricter standards for sustainability transparency, with mandatory votes on climate reports. The Evolution of Regional Policy in Switzerland: From a Growth Oriented to a Challenge-Led Policy? I. Regional Policy From its inception, the goal of Swiss regional policy is to maintain decentralised settlement and reduce regional disparities. It is a policy that functions alongside other spatially effective policies (such as agriculture and spatial planning) and it complements the cantonal fiscal equalization scheme II. The New Regional Policy 1. Promoting innovation, value creation and competitiveness in the regions 2. Creation of synergies between regional policy and sectoral policies 3. Knowledge exchange between regions and qualification of regional management III. Regional Innovation Systems  The first pillar is the most important part of the NRP. It enables the financing of projects in the regions and supports intercantonal programmes such as the six Regional Innovation Systems (RIS) IV. Cantons  The cantons’ implementation programs form the basis for the cantons’ funding decisions. The cantons draw their implementation programs based on the national NRP framework and the cantonal economic strategy. Spatially, the funding focuses on the mountain area, the wider rural area, and the border regions VI. Export Base Approach The theoretical basis of the first pillar is the export base approach. Thus, export-oriented sectors such as manufacturing industries, but also tourism are the main targets of the NRP VII. Systemic Change Scholars argue that policy makers should take a broader view of regional development and competitiveness and think strategically about to whom and what investments and grants should be allocated. As Lars Coenen, Teis Hansen and Josephine Rekers urged, regional development projects should focus not only on technological innovation but rather on transformative systemic change (https://lnkd.in/dGUxKyUt) VIII. Sustainable Development and Social Innovation Beginning in 2024, sustainable development became one of the cross-cutting themes alongside digitalization and the local economy in implementation programs. The RIS can also focus on social innovation and address specific needs of women, older individuals, and migrants, provided they meet the NRP’s requirement IX. Conclusion  The Swiss model is deeply rooted in a federal structure that grants substantial autonomy to its cantons while ensuring overall national cohesion. At the Investor Day of the Asset Management der Zürcher Kantonalbank it was interesting to bring the three perspectives of: • energy • entrepreneurship and • investment together.    All of them face intense pressures and challenges, requiring a relentless drive for progress and adaptation. But what commonalities tie them together? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Entrepreneurs must constantly innovate to stay ahead.  In Switzerland, over the past decade, 207 cleantech startups have been founded and remain active, showcasing the sector's vitality and its contribution to nearly 5% of the Swiss GDP​ (S-GE)​​ (Venturelab). 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 Entrepreneurs are increasingly focusing on sustainable practices, mirroring the energy sector’s shift towards renewable and clean energy solutions. Also on the investment side there is more nd more interest in sustainable financial opportunities. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Success in each field often depends on strategic partnerships and collaborations. Here are the top takeaways: ▶ Managing liquidity in fund investments - With global market volatility on the rise, effective liquidity management is essential, especially important for clients with complex US and cross-border portfolios. ▶ A shift toward personalized investment products - Investment offerings are evolving beyond commercial investors, with a growing focus on tailored products designed to meet the unique financial goals of individual investors. ▶ Streamlined processes and AI innovation - Luxembourg is setting the standard with digital improvements like FASTER, which is “aimed to simplify withholding tax refund procedures for cross-border investors”. This will also help prevent abuse related to Withholding taxes. ▶ Increasing digital assets - The digital asset space is expanding beyond cryptocurrencies, driven by increased regulation and innovation, this trend aligns with rising client interest in exploring alternative assets as part of a well-rounded investment strategy. However, it was also noted that the results of the recent US election suggest that, from a US perspective, regulations are unlikely to become stricter, and that this area should still be monitored for any potential changes.
