🌍 #COP29 Highlights: Strategic Partners Leading the Way 🌱 As the United Nations Climate Change Conference #COP29 kicked off yesterday, we are excited to see strategic partners like Clim-Eat and The Nature Conservancy actively driving change: - Clim-Eat is a global "think and do tank" focused on transforming food systems to address climate change. Accredited by UN Climate Change to observe negotiations and make submissions, Clim-Eat is taking an active role at #COP29. They are organising several side events and engaging in multiple sessions to foster impactful dialogue, partnerships, and solutions that shape policies benefiting both agriculture and the environment. - The Nature Conservancy will collaborate with policymakers to highlight the essential role nature plays in combating climate change and advancing the Paris Agreement. Their priorities include phasing out fossil fuels by accelerating the shift to renewable energy, building resilient societies by empowering communities that protect nature and driving investments in nature-positive projects. Learn more about TNC's goals and expected outcomes here: https://lnkd.in/eJNwXyvJ As climate impacts affect 4 billion people globally and threaten to push more than 130 million into poverty over the next decade, advancing climate adaptation on a global scale has never been more urgent.

Established in 2007, the Trafigura Foundation is an independently managed philanthropic entity funded by the Trafigura Group. As part of its 2023-2027 strategy, the Foundation focuses on investing in solutions for communities and ecosystems most affected by climate change. It prioritises climate adaptation efforts, recognising that floods, heatwaves, water scarcity, and crop loss disproportionately impact vulnerable populations. The Foundation partners with experienced non-profit organisations to implement programmes centred around three areas of work: sustainable livelihoods, thriving nature, and prepared communities.

Before heading into the weekend, here’s a lovely snapshot from #Ethiopia, shared by Anne Nayral de Puybusque during her field visit to explore our partnership with BOMA.ngo. We look forward to hearing more about her experience—stay tuned for updates!

💼 As part of our commitment to advancing impact investing, our Executive Director Dario Soto Abril and Programme Managers Nina Saalismaa, Anne Nayral de Puybusque and Laura-Anna Frühwald recently completed an intensive 70-hour training course on "Advanced Impact Investing Fund Due Diligence," led by expert Philip Walker. This immersive experience included in-person sessions and practical homework, where the team explored how to evaluate impact investing funds using a real-life case study of a private equity climate fund in #Africa. Equipped with these skills, we're now better prepared to assess investment strategies, fund structures, and risks, as we begin evaluating exciting new opportunities in the coming months. 🚀 #ImpactInvesting #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ImpactEvaluation

International conferences offer a unique platform to connect with engaged organisations driving lasting positive change. At the recent UN Biodiversity Conference #COP16, we were thrilled to meet ONE DROP, a global leader in sustainable access to safe water and sanitation, as they joined our Workshop on Developing Climate Adaptation Solutions, co-hosted with Latimpacto.
We're thankful for the chance to attend #COP16, where we engaged in meaningful sessions, shared our vision, and forged connections to drive climate action. During the final Workshop on Developing Climate Adaptation Solutions, hosted by Latimpacto and the Trafigura Foundation, we explored strategies to close funding gaps in climate adaptation. Our Co-CEO, Ernenek Duran, also participated as a speaker on "Unlocking Private Financing to Enable a Just Transition Towards a Regenerative Economy. Impact Investing in Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for Adaptation as an Entry Point?", sharing insights on Innovative Partnerships for Collective Action during a panel, organized by ALTAMIRA, Network Nature & We Are Water Foundation We wrapped up with our Evening by the River event, which brought together over 65 leaders from Colombian foundations and international agencies and was featured in El Pais, Cali’s leading media outlet. COP16 was an inspiring step forward in our mission for a sustainable future. Impact Investing in Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for Adaptation as an Entry Point?", partageant des idées sur les partenariats innovants pour l'action collective au cours d'un panel organisé par ALTAMIRA, Network Nature & We Are Water Foundation.

Last week, colleagues from the Trafigura #Houston office attended the inauguration of a renovated playground at AAMA, a non-profit that provides vital educational, social, and health services to disadvantaged youth and families. At the end of last year, Houston staff came together to refurbish the neglected playground, which is essential to AAMA’s childcare facilities, by organising a bidding initiative. To support the staff fundraiser, the management team decided to auction unique items—model ships and cargo tanker replicas—during their office move in September 2023. The auction raised substantial funds, to which the Trafigura Foundation contributed, bringing the total to USD 50,000. These funds were distributed among several local charities, including Target Hunger, which is dedicated to alleviating hunger in Houston by providing nutritious food and essential resources to families in need The renovated space will serve around 60 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with a safe and welcoming area to play ✨

Let’s kick off the week with this uplifting video from our partner, Clim-Eat, showcasing how farmers in Kenya are taking concrete steps to adapt to climate change. Clim-Eat, a global “think and do tank,” believes that effective deal-making can create meaningful impacts for rural communities on the frontlines of climate change. Through a three-year grant, our Foundation supports essential policy changes to empower farmers and transform food systems with evidence-based strategies. This collaboration focuses on innovations in investment, irrigation, and digitalisation across Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia. By working with decision-makers to pilot and scale these innovative food systems, our partnership aims to generate USD 20 million in investments, securing benefits for 300,000 farmers and 20 small and medium-sized businesses as key pillars of resilient rural livelihoods.
Suit on? Laptop charged? High-level language ready to go? With COP29 just around the corner, we're expecting a lot of lofty language from delegates in Azerbaijan. Clim-Eat's latest film aims to bring climate change adaptation down to earth a bit, giving a glimpse of how farmers are already taking action and what might happen in the future. Want to learn more about Clim-Eat's work in Kenya? 👉 https://lnkd.in/eaitv5e2 Special thanks to Wiebe Smit and Kevin Gitau Ng'ang'a for wonderful storytelling and prioritising action at the local level.

In 2012, our partner Root Capital launched the Women in Agriculture Initiative, #WAI. Since then, this initiative has been instrumental in expanding access to finance for women-led and gender-inclusive businesses across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. By promoting gender equity and inclusion in agriculture, this initiative has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of women in developing economies. With a remarkable US$700 million invested in gender-inclusive and women-led enterprises, Root Capital has reached over half a million women employees and farmers. 💪🌱 Check out their inspiring WAI annual report 👇
Our Women In Agriculture Initiative annual report is out NOW! 🎉👩🏽🌾 One highlight? In the last 18 months alone, we financed 159 women-led or gender-inclusive enterprises and loaned more than $125 million. 🤝 Collective action is at the heart of our Foundation's work and impact.
Hoping to make the world a bit better while staying humble, learning a lot, and not taking myself so seriously
At Trafigura Foundation we are honoured to be granted observer status to COP16 in Cali, Colombia. We are learning about the latest in biodiversity. We are also leading conversations directly and through our partners about collective action and the role of philanthropies in unlocking funding for adaptation and nature. More to come.

Today marks the start of the UN Biodiversity COP16 Colombia—an important event to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and health threats to humans and wildlife. #Biodiversity is essential for life on Earth. It regulates the climate, supports ecosystem stability, and provides food, medicine, clean air, and water. It also underpins key industries like agriculture and tourism. Without biodiversity, ecosystems would collapse, jeopardising all life, including humans. Our Executive Director, Dario Soto Abril, has a busy agenda. He will conclude the third round of dialogues launched in collaboration with Latimpacto, aiming to form a coalition of corporate foundations and investors committed to climate action in Latin America. Dario will also participate in a panel with CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe-, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, and engage with some of our partners, including Plan Vivo Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, and the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM). #ClimateAction #EcosystemHealth #ClimateInvestment #LatinAmerica
