Similar to GDPR, the law in Quebec on Personal Data Protection affects any business doing business with individuals in the province. It's important to note that many provinces / states are considering to follow by adopting similar laws to GDPR. It's common sense that our personal data should remain confidential or at least, the use and publication should be approved by the person concerned. Imo, the best, easiest and most cost effective place to start as a business is to offer a way to secure the email. Emails remain the number 1 communication solution used in entreprise. Last week, Alexis Trudel and I were in Quebec City at the Beneva headquarters for our 18th quarterly business review presentation! Reflecting on how far we’ve come, I remember when we first landed this account six years ago. I was so excited that I went for coffee with a former CEO from a large agency I worked at to share the news. He gave me a piece of advice I’ve never forgotten: "It’s one thing to land high-profile clients; it’s another to keep them." Now, I’d like to share a few insights on how we’ve managed to maintain this partnership—despite not having a fancy logo: 1. We were given a chance. 2. We’re results-driven and passionate about what we do. 3. Our team is senior and hands-on. 4. Low staff turnover: we’ve ended only three partnerships over six years to keep quality high. 5. We limit our client list and avoid multi-tasking. 6. Fewer meetings, more focus: we leave room for deep, inspired work. 7. We use an FTE model, not a percentage-of-spend approach. 8. "𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁!" When I came to Canada, everyone told me that 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘐𝘯 were the keys to success. I didn’t fully understand what that meant at first. Like an amateur attendee at a networking event, I began randomly connecting with people on LinkedIn, much like collecting business cards without a real purpose. My thinking was simple: “If I connect with enough people in my field, someone will notice me and offer me a job.” Within six months, I had over 1,000 LinkedIn connections. But guess what? It still took me 2.5 years to land a job in my field. This experience taught me an invaluable lesson: 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀; 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀. It’s about 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴—people who know you, trust you, and can vouch for you. So now, I always share this mantra: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁. How do you approach LinkedIn connections? If you run ads in Canada, here's an important update 🚨: Starting October 1st, 2024, Google will implement a 2.5% surcharge on ads served in Canada. My team and I are already analyzing how this change will impact our KPIs compared to other markets. For example, our data for a client targeting several markets shows that the average CPC in Canada is $0.46, while in the USA it's $1.18. Despite the surcharge, Canadian CPCs will still be significantly lower. This change will impact ad efficiency and may encourage you to rethink your strategies, but advertising in Canada might still be more cost-effective than in markets like the US and UK.
