As I stated in my Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC) panel discussion, Canadians are near the top of the 32 country list when it comes to “Products and Services using Artificial Intelligence make me nervous”... at 63%. That number is 34% in China and in Italy it barely tops 40%. New Ipsos analysis of the 2024 US Election together with Chris Jackson. Harris makes gains. But Trump holds the fudamentals. Read the piece; link below. In a nutshell 1. Harris leads in many national and swing state polls. 2. Resulting from heightened enthusiasm especially among Democrats. 3. The polls will settle after the Democratic convention. Only then giving a clear picture. 4. Trump is still the strongest on the main issue— “inflation and the economy”. This is critical. But Trump must target this issue if he is to be succesful. Thus far he has been distracted. 5. Harris must continue to energize the base; make the case on the economy; and paint Trump as “weird”. 6. Harris does depend on a rosier economic picture. This should be a point of analytical focus. 7. This all said, the electoral events have been unprecedented. This makes using historical analogies to forecast fuzzy at best. Trump is the favorite. New polling by #Leger on how Canadians and Americans are feeling about freedom of speech in their respective countries. Some very interesting results when looking at the things either through a generational; political or national lens. In both countries there is a belief it is getting harder to speak freely on some topics. Watching #campusprotests spring up across Canada and the US are reminders of how challenging some issue are to debate publicly. Canadian consumer sentiment appears to be on a bit of an upswing. Not that things are good per se, but it seems to be improving since the start of the year and the forecast could be described as a "very cautious muted optimism". Mike Colledge It appears Canadians are waiting for more positive news but remain worried the economic pressures they face will shift from inflation and affordability to unemployment and static wage growth. From Ipsos in Canada data... Disruption Barometer is up +7 from -21% to -13% (December to September) Financial Health Index up +3 from -20% to -17% Job Security is up +6 from 39% to 45% National Economy is up +6 from 31% to 37% Comfort making a major purchase is up +10 from 27% to 37% Comfort making a minor purchase is up +9 from 31% to 40% Perception of Affordability is up +3 from 39% to 42%.
