As governments continue to adopt AI and automation to solve problems and improve efficiency, maintaining trust and transparency in these technologies is paramount. In this article published in the Ottawa Citizen, I discuss the importance of embracing responsible AI in the public sector. At IBM, we always ensure an AI governance framework is built on the following principles: 1. Transparency: AI models and algorithms should be explainable, auditable, and accountable. Organizations should understand how their AI systems make decisions.  2. Risk Assessment: We continuously assess and mitigate AI model bias, data quality, and security risks to ensure AI systems are safe, secure, and reliable. 3. Ethical Guidelines: Clear ethical guidelines for AI use are established, focussing on data privacy, fairness, and accountability.  4. Collaboration: Encourage collaboration between government, industry, civil society, and the public for a collaborative AI governance approach.  5. Continuous Monitoring: Regularly monitor and evaluate AI systems for bias, accuracy, fairness, and legal/regulatory compliance. With the right steps, Canada can harness the power of AI to build a public sector more closely aligned with the core values of our national fabric.  #GenAI #IBMCanada #watsonx
