The Identity Field Guide was designed with this pathway to embodiment in mind. First you are given the tools, then you learn how to use them, then you practice them. Over 21 days you are given the opportunity to practice a daily rhythm of noticing. Some might fight the same questions on days 1-5 of each week, but there is an intention behind it... These leaders use Empathy and Adaptability to bridge cultural gaps and create inclusive environments. Heart Centered Leaders start by acknowledging that their own cultural lens is not universal. Useful article. Hotchkiss's two principles seem wise: 1. Systems resist change because their basic function is to get people to engage in repetitive behavior. Resisting change is not a choice a system makes—it’s what a system is. Much of the good that systems do comes from persuading people to keep doing what they’re doing. 2. Systems change when they come to believe change is the best or only way they can remain what they most truly are. Systems change when their existence is threatened, or when they are persuaded that the actions they repeat no longer produce the results they cherish.

Intrinsic motivation—the kind that stems from your values and passions—fuels lasting progress. When your goals align with your heart, you’re more likely to stay committed when challenges arise. Step 3: Set Goals, Not Resolutions Resolutions often fail because they lack structure. Instead, create actionable goals using the SMARTER framework: Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Risky, Time-bound, Exciting, and Relevant. This approach transforms vague aspirations into concrete steps toward success. For example, instead of saying, “I want to be healthier,” define it: “I will exercise for 30 minutes, five days a week, starting January 2.” Specificity gives you a clear roadmap. Step 4: Create a Flexible Plan Once you’ve set your goals, map out your path forward. Avoid overcomplicating your plan—simple, actionable steps are key. Think of it like a GPS: Set your destination, start the journey, and adjust as needed. Step 5: Build a Support System One of the most powerful ways to achieve your goals is by involving others in your journey. Surround yourself with people who will encourage, challenge, and hold you accountable. Leadership and goal-setting can feel lonely, but community can make all the difference. Ready to Move Forward? Your best year doesn’t happen by accident—it’s designed with intention. By reflecting on the past, setting meaningful goals, creating actionable plans, and leaning on others, you can walk into 2025 with clarity and confidence. How valuable is a CEO compared to an average worker? Let’s be clear: executives deserve generous pay commensurate with their performance. It takes vision, skill, and dedication to lead an organization. The ability to connect with a vast range of stakeholders. Long hours. Difficult decisions. Stress. An interminable series of obligations and high expectations for discharging them. Under most circumstances, the executive remains the single most important agent for shaping a business’s valuation. So, yes: their compensation should reflect their critical role to the brand. But how much more valuable is an executive to the company than the median worker mobilizing their vision? Fifty times? One hundred times? In North America, we have organizations compensating executives at levels 795 times (AppLovin), 1,184 times (Endeavor Group), or even 3,769 times (Coty) what their median worker earns. It’s none of my business what shareholders decide to pay their CEO. Compensation varies by industry and size, so there’s no ideal proportion or golden mean here. At the same time, it’s worth probing that increasing disproportion in light of stagnant wages (in real terms) for average workers despite their rising productivity. So: -In 1980, the average CEO earned 42 times what the average worker earned. Does that mean today’s CEOs are 20, 30, or 75 times more valuable now than in 1980, relative to the average worker? -In Japan, CEOs earn around a tenth of the compensation American CEOs command; in Europe, it’s about half. Does that entail today’s American CEO is ten times better than the average Japanese CEO, or twice as good as their average European counterpart? -After a year that witnessed BP hemorrhaging losses in 2015, the petroleum giant hiked CEO Bob Dudley’s pay. Should a a CEO’s compensation be insulated from the organization’s performance? I don’t claim to have all the answers. But the antinomies retailed above suggest a defect in the system. CEOs should be paid what they’re worth. So should the workers who labor under them. (Opinions expressed are mine alone.)
