In this post, I'll take you through a typical day in my life, highlighting the challenges, opportunities and lessons learned. ☕ Morning Routine My day starts early at 8 AM, with a review of project financials, including budgets, forecasts and actual costs. I also check for any project developments, updates or issues that require my attention. ✔ Cost Management and Reporting A significant part of my day is spent on cost management and reporting. I work closely with project coordinators, engineers and other stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential cost risks. I also prepare and review financial reports, including cost variance analyses to ensure that projects are on track and within budget. ✔ Collaboration and Communication Effective collaboration and communication are essential in my role. I work closely with cross-functional teams, including procurement, logistics and finance to ensure that project costs are accurately captured and reported. I also communicate regularly with project stakeholders, including clients, sub contractors and suppliers to ensure that everyone is informed and aligned. ✔ Lessons Learned and Best Practices One of the most important lessons I've learned as a Cost Controller is the importance of proactive cost management. Here are the resources that helped me succeed: Andrew Ramdayal Udemy PMP Certification Exam Prep Course not only laid a solid foundation for PMP concepts but also guided me through the application process and introduced me to the critical "mindset" needed for the exam. Ricardo Viana Vargas, Ph.D. PMBOK summaries (6th & 7th editions) on youtube provided concise, easy-to-digest insights. David McLachlan Practice question videos (200, 150 & 100 questions on YouTube) were invaluable in building confidence and getting into the right problem-solving mindset. PMP Study Hall Essentials was an excellent resource for realistic practice exams and scenario-based questions. Reddit (u/Third3Rock's Study notes) tied everything together and added clarity to my preparation strategy. A heartfelt thank you to these incredible resources and the supportive PMP community at Reddit (r/pmp), whose tips kept me focused on what truly mattered.
