Growing up South Asian, diabetes was rarely discussed, and that silence has real consequences. Despite the higher risk of type 2 diabetes within our community, it’s often seen as a taboo subject—something associated with "poor diets" or "sedentary lifestyles." People are judged, ridiculed, and told it’s because they "eat too much sugar." After over 10 years in healthcare research, I see the harmful impact these mindsets have on the well-being of those living with diabetes. Let’s all work to stop the blame, judgment, and stigma. Understanding what diabetes is and isn’t is something we can all take part in. That’s why I’m proud to be part of Environics Research’s work with Diabetes Canada. You can read more about the research here: https://lnkd.in/eew3Hs6e. How has diabetes awareness impacted your community? This #WorldDiabetesDay, let’s change the conversation. #Diabetes #DiabetesAwarenessMonth #LetsMakeTime #HealthcareResearch
