BC Transit is planning to add more 900 new buses over the next 3 to 5 years! Adding new buses and replacing old ones ensures we have a reliable fleet that meets the growing demand for transit across BC. While we work towards a zero emissions fleet, we'll purchase a variety of buses. We're bringing in 141 electric buses and are working to buy 105 heavy-duty hybrid buses and 80 diesel double deckers. We continue to support greenhouse gas reductions with the use of Hydrogenated Derived Renewable Diesel and light duty buses for handyDART service. Our fleet strategy is designed to achieve BC Transit’s CleanBC targets set by the Province of BC - a 40 per cent reduction in bus emissions by 2030 and 60 per cent by 2040. If you’re a Penticton rider or have been in the last 45 years, there’s a good chance that Dave's been there to greet you when the doors open 👋 Transit launched in the South Okanagan in 1977, only a couple of years before Dave started his career behind the wheel. With "his genuine caring for others, good humour, excellent driving skills and commitment to the highest service standards," stories about this Transit SuperStar's impact are in the many. During a cold snap earlier this year, Dave arrived at 4 a.m. in -25°C with a hair dryer in hand to thaw out key engine components on the fleet. With fall just days away, we’re in the home stretch of completing our new handyDART facility in View Royal. With the buildings constructed, the focus of the work right now is inside the new buildings that are being constructed to a LEED Gold standard. BC Transit is constructing the new handyDART facility and the steps that are being taken to ensure it’s an environmentally friendly and sustainable property in our latest project.   Onsite the next two months will be bustling with outside activity. Curbs, asphalt, sidewalks and preparatory work for landscaping will occur in September and October. New curbs and sidewalks will soon make way for the planting of trees, shrubs and sod on the intersection corner, along Burnside Road and alongside the Galloping Goose trail in mid-November all in preparation for the facility opening in Spring 2025! #BCTransit #handyDART #ViewRoyal
