This week has been a whirlwind for many of us in Kent. Just as we were recovering from the chaos caused by Storm Darragh, we now face a series of significant road closures and maintenance works, adding to the stress of our daily commutes. If you're planning any late-night journeys, be mindful that a number of major A-roads and motorways, including the M2, A20, M20, A2, and M25, will be affected by planned works between 8pm and 6am. From electrical works near Dover on the A20 to the resurfacing works on the A21, it's clear our travel schedule is going to be impacted. Additionally, for those using Operation Brock on the M20, it's important to stay updated as the contraflow will be in place until December 22nd. For teachers in Kent, this may be an excellent time to reflect on your current workload and consider whether agency work could be a better fit. At Rikama Education, we aim to offer a healthier work/life balance, with dedicated support and long-term placements. It might just be the perfect time to make a change and alleviate some of the stresses of daily commuting. Feel free to leave your thoughts or any particular travel tips you have in the comments. And if you're considering a switch in your career, visit rikama-education.com. #KentTravel #Roadworks #TeachingOpportunities

Urgent Kent Crossing Closure! Starting tonight at 10pm, the Kingsferry Bridge in Kent will close for essential repairs, reopening at 5am on Sunday, November 3. Network Rail is replacing the 40 steel ropes which lift the bridge for shipping. Although initially scheduled for 2026, scans showed the ropes had degraded to a point where immediate action is necessary. If these repairs aren't completed before winter, there's a risk the ropes could fail, resulting in a much longer closure. This critical infrastructure connects the Isle of Sheppey with the mainland, so the impact will be significant. Commuters on Sheppey and in Sittingbourne are advised to use the parallel Sheppey Crossing and plan their journeys accordingly. Motorists should expect delays, plan ahead, and drive at quieter times. Buses will replace trains for the week, so consider this if you're using public transport. Network Rail and the local council are working together to ease congestion during the repairs. They've agreed to remove traffic management from the northbound A249 temporarily. Free vehicle recovery services and shuttle buses for rail passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and 50cc mopeds will be available. Non-emergency roadworks in the area will also be paused to help ease traffic flow. How will this closure affect your daily commute? Have you experienced similar disruptions before?
