Ever thought being too nice as a leader could hold your team back? Thiago Concer's turn to deliver at Zanon Summit. And deliver he did. Funny, engaging, insightful. While his focus was on sales, here are key lessons for business overall. They hit hard if you really think about them. Ready? First, the biggest lesson for me and one I'm personally learning: 🤯 “Overly harmonious environment in your organization is extremely detrimental to great results.” Let that sink in… Being a “nice” leader comes pretty easy to me. Our culture at work is easy going and we treat people VERY well. Our teams are engaged and deliver great results. Sound familiar? Plus, as leaders, we're nothing without our teams. It's them who really deliver. So what's wrong with harmony? Nothing … if you don't have ambition for greatness. Because high performance and great results are not created in total harmony. We need leaders to lead, not to be everyone's mommy. Sure, leaders need to listen, care, teach and serve. But leadership also means: - Having courage 🧠 - Challenging your teams 🏋️‍♂️ - Setting audacious goals 📈 - Correcting mistakes 🔄 - Standing up for others - And leading by example 🌟 Stay with me. Of course, you can't be an idiot and just push people beyond their limits. 💪 But challenging your team, setting audacious goals and keeping healthy pressure daily, while staying in touch with your team… Well, that's actually a good thing. 🚀 That's how you build high performing teams and organizations. Last week, I stood in front of 900 people and did something I was terrified of... I delivered a talk in Portuguese. 🇧🇷 Earlier this year, the CS Academy invited me to speak at its flagship event in Sao Paulo about Customer-Led Growth. If you follow me here, you know I do a lot of events. But this was different. Here's the thing: 💬 While I was born in Brazil and speak fluent Portuguese... 💼 I've never really worked in Portuguese. 🤯 All the terms and expressions I use when telling stories and communicating CS concepts are things I learned in English. The fear was real: 😰 Would I forget crucial technical terms mid-speech? 😰 Could I effectively convey complex ideas in Portuguese? 😰 What if I froze on stage, unable to translate my thoughts? But I knew something special could happen if I took the plunge. I could connect with a whole new community of CS professionals in Brazil and share a concept that I know can transform organisations. So I said YES! I translated my Customer-Led-Growth Talk and partnered with my besties (ChatGPT and Claude) to find the right words to make my talk as impactful as Iit could be. I won't lie, there were moments when I thought I had bit more than I could chew. But when the day of the event arrived... And as I stepped on stage, I felt a mix of terror and exhilaration. But guess what? It worked! 🎉 The audience was engaged 🎉 My message resonated with people 🎉 I even cracked a few jokes that landed! Here's what I learned: 🩵 Simplicity is better than fancy. I used language without the usual jargon and the message came out crisper than with all the fancy words. 🩵 Authenticity trumps perfection - the audience connects with your stories, and your passion, not just your words. 🩵 The things that scare us the most often lead to our greatest achievements. I don't know who needs to hear this, but... This is your cue to take on that challenge you've been avoiding. The one that scares you, but deep down, you know will help you grow. #personalgrowth #customerledgrowth #csm #leadership #growthmindset

I just ran across an article by Rafael Pereira Santos at Gympass about their experience with CDPs and it is a work of ART. Key takeaways of their journey below: - CDPs are sought out to help small teams manage multiple vendor integrations efficiently, reducing backlog and freeing up time for other initiatives - However, companies often hit major problems with traditional packaged CDPs like data inconsistencies, incompatibility between internal and CDP data models, and escalating costs as usage increases - It's CRUCIAL to clearly define needs and end goals before implementing a CDP, including understanding future data volumes and prioritizing essential events/data... not to mention pricing! - Maintaining ownership of your data is essential, which is why CDPs are slowly moving to "zero copy" approaches -- meanwhile composable CDP solutions have long offered this - Avoiding vendor lock-in is also important: dependencies on vendor-specific SDKs is a major hurdle - Lastly, it's easy to overlook observability but it's SO key to understanding data flow and quickly identifying issues in the CDP pipeline At Census, we were among the first to recognize the importance of the above points, which is why we pioneered the Universal Data Platform as a more modern alternative to the CDP. #WebSummit Reflecting on yesterday's dynamic session at the Marketing Summit. It was inspiring to hear insights from Bumble's CEO, Lidiane Jones, as she spoke with Claire Hodgson. Lidiane, a leader from Brazil making her mark on the tech industry, is someone I admire greatly. 🇧🇷🌍 Lidiane painted an intriguing future for Bumble Inc., detailing its shift from solely a 'dating app' to a platform fostering all sorts of relationships - from friendships and professional connections, along with romantic bonds. One emphasis from Lidiane, "Our job is to help our customers meet real people in real life," I found particularly impactful. THIS! So many CSM’s are great at the functional or being empathetic or the voice of the customer but feel off purpose when the discussion of commercial responsibility comes up. I would argue that there is no one better suited to identify growth (sales) opportunities for our customers than CSM’s. We will probably bear the brunt of the issues if there is a bad implementation or poor utilization so it’s in our best interest to only suggest new products that we know will benefit our customers. Let’s build strong strategic relationships with our Account Managers and lean in to the commercial “responsibility”.
