Another step forward: powering our green data centers with renewable fuel.✅ We’ve recently made an important change at LCL Brussels-North: we converted one of our existing generators to run on a renewable fuel, HVO100. This is an essential step in our ESG responsibility to transition all our generators to more sustainable fuel options. After successfully installing a new HVO100-powered generator last year, we're now upgrading our existing equipment to follow the same path. With the ability to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%, HVO100 is a game changer in reducing our environmental footprint while giving our machinery a sustainable future. Great article highlighting one of the points that has had a major impact on the deployment of networks across the globe - how Governments 'sell' spectrum to MNOs and the impact this can have on rollouts. We have seen auctions in the past that have raised billions for Government coffers, but that leaves MNOs with major headaches in terms of monetisation as they then must upgrade (or build) masts and networks across the entire country, add new active equipment and provision upgraded backhaul, all of which is expensive, especially when they are in price wars with each other for customers. Renewals of these spectrum allocations will become more and more of an issue as the original licence periods expire, interesting to see how the German regulator is approaching the issue – especially considering their decisions creating new challenger companies when other M&A has taken place which potentially creates more headaches later on. How do #telecom companies stay relevant in an ever-evolving industry? This was a key topic at the prestigious Telecom Insights Congress organized by Telecompaper close to Amsterdam, the Netherlands.    As a guest speaker, I was honored to showcase our vision on Proximus+ and how it creates value for our customers and for Proximus. With Proximus+, we want to be relevant in the daily digital life of our customers – beyond the presence we have today in the video-space with our Pickx TV platform. We want to help our users to discover how all the new capabilities of the digital world can improve their daily life. We make it #simple by facilitating account creation through the Proximus id and Itsme, by enabling payment on the Proximus bill and by focusing on customer journeys. We make it safe and #secure by working with strong local and international partners. Proximus+ is already being used by more than 1 million Proximus telco customers, and also available to non-telco users 💡 This week, Proximus+ also launched a new feature, our “beta” toggle. This allows every user to decide whether to participate or not in testing the latest functionalities. I’m extremely proud that first beta feature we launch, is the “Wallet” including a very compelling cash-back program with strong local partners. If you haven’t tested it yet, you don’t know what you are missing out on! 💰 My take-aways from the conference? 👉 While we invest in additional network capacity with 5G and fiber, applications that consume this capacity are needed in order to create the appetite to pay for the connectivity, which will allow to fuel future investments 👉 Jan-Piet Nelissen and Deloitte co-created with the audience a possible future for our industry: reliability of telco networks will become even more important, we are confident that applications will arrive that consume the available network capacity, while OTT pressure on bundling services like video will continue  👉 As we are moving to energy-intensive cloud computing and generative AI, Menno van Leeuwen highlighted the need to continue our road for a sustainable industry 👉 Wouter Stammeijer ran us through KPN's "connect, activate and grow" strategy   Thank you Ed Achterberg and Erik Compter for inviting me to share our experiences with the Dutch telco community. 🎉 A significant milestone has been reached! Wyre, Telenet, Proximus and Fiberklaar have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a potential future collaboration on the further deployment of fiber networks in Flanders. This brings a win-win-win for the citizen, the region, and the telecom sector. 🚀 A potential collaboration will not only reduce the disruption for citizens but also enable the roll-out of more fiber. This is fantastic news for consumers: fiber will be rolled out at larger scale, while our Hybrid Fiber Coax today already delivers speeds of 1 Gbps all over Flanders and parts of Brussels. 🌐 Once approved by the relevant authorities, we can now shift into high gear to further digitalize Flanders and keep it on the map as a region with one of the fastest and most reliable telecom networks all over Europe. @CelcomDigi’s Q3 2024 results highlighted its resilience and strategic focus. Their dedication in driving quality subscriber acquisition in a dynamic market while continuing cost discipline and investing in growth opportunities is evident in its latest performance. Network integration and modernisation are also nearing 70% completion, with 75% expected by year-end, surpassing targets. Together with the ongoing retail stores transformation, this will enhance customer experience. The first phase of harmonising Celcom and Digi’s core billing and CRM systems is progressing well too. Kudos to Idham Nawawi, Albern Murty, Kesavan Sivabalan, kamal khalid, Praveen Rajan, Cheng Weng Hong. It starts. Ziggo is yet another platform operator that has moved its primary service to pure IP. The question that every single broadcast/traditional TV platform should be asking themselves is ... why have we not started the transition? On the other side, investment in broadcast platforms should be questioned because this transition will be characterised by major inflexion points as consumers find the consumption via IP to be easier, particularly as this is a consumer led transition.

Mobile operators and GSMA unveil a pioneering Mobile Industry Manifesto for Europe: "New Rules for a New Era: Connecting Europe to 2030." A must-read for the future of our sector in Europe: 👉 Connectivity is the backbone of a competitive digital and green economy. It is the lifeblood of technologies, such as AI and big data, cloud, quantum computing, and the metaverse. The mobile sector’s importance as a strategic asset for Europe’s resilience should be recognized, and its value should be enhanced. 👉 Europe is lagging behind other global players. Excessive market fragmentation, spectrum costs, and an outdated regulatory framework have caused the telecom sector’s revenues to decrease. A paradigm shift is urgently needed. 👉 With over 100 operators present in the EU, European telcos have an average customer base of approximately 5 million subscribers each.
